To celebrate the 100th season of the VFL/AFL, the "AFL Team of the Century" was named in 1996. We were not happy at all.

You want the answer or some info? Yes was from the 60's, was one of my favourite players

Was tall for a rover, but was so skilful at reading the play that he became an instant hit with the Magpies. He played with a level of coolness and calm that meant he could handle any situation.
That would definitely be Wayne Richardson.

1. Jack Regan
2. Albert Collier
3. Gordon Coventry
4. Dick Lee

Coach: Jock McHale

An absolute "crime" was committed by the people who chose that team! Shame on them, for they just couldn't have come up with a side that had no-one from Collingwood in 100 years of VFL/AFL football without extreme bias taking over! Regan and Collier should have been certainties, Coventry and Lee a major chance, and naming McHale as the coach perhaps the easiest selection of all.

  1. Don't know the pick but it was Starcevich and Lehmann
  2. Josh Fraser
  3. Garry "Whiskas" Hocking
  4. There's a pig at full forward!
  5. Guessing A Rocca
  6. Another guess - the IRA?
  7. Big fat zero
  8. Don't know this one
  9. The Clokes at Collingwood?
  10. 0 - he holds the record for most games with 0 goals

How'd I do, Maggie5 ?

Thanks for the quiz.

Ahh, Geoff Blethyn and his glasses. I was thinking along the lines of someone with white boots or maybe Capper and his short shorts.

The late 60s and early 70s were amazing for goal kickers. Nobody kicked 100 between 1952 and 1968, and then it happened 10 times between 1968 and 1972.

Peter McKenna kicked 143 and 134 in 1970 and 1971 and didn't win the Coleman either year. Insane.

I actually had also forgotten that and my family are Bomber supporters.

Imagine someone wearing glasses now.

Imagine kicking 107 goals in a season now and being relatively forgotten among the goalkickers of your age.

No disrespect to Blethyn who was clearly a fine player but Hudson, McKenna and Wade are all so much more widely recognised these days. Mind you, I've just looked up the list of century goalkickers and seen the name Larry Donahue (105 goals in 1976) and I can't place him at all.

I remember him, he was a tall fella and quite a reliable kick for goal. 1976 and the Cats supporters always used to sing a popular hit called "Hats Off To Larry" when they were thinking about him.
