Rowey mentioned this,
Where did you get your information from?Ahh. Stephen Rowe.
The FiveAA bellend who in 2001 famously falsely alleged the Pies had bribed an umpire in a bid to clear Nathan Buckley of a striking charge. Rowe and the station later apologised as part of an out-of-court settlement with the club when threatened with defamation action.

I see.Not related to the Carmen-Tuck events itself, more a statement about how things were different when it came to onfield acts.
A response to the time period itself and AFL/VFL reporting/policy, which would probably have been little to non existent when it came to what happened.
Calling the player to apologies yesterday isn't consider self reporting?????
If you guys have a more acceptable and articulate way to convey my thoughts on the perfume industry being more feminine and historically unbecoming of an AFL footballer, I'm all ears.
Rankine should be sentenced to 6 weeks working in a program with the gay community . Everyone is upset this keeps happening so obviously the massive suspensions aren't doing anything. Time to try education instead of anger
What exactly is the "players contest".What? He already apologies to the Collingwood player as he wasn't aware the Collingwood player was bothered with what he said and he wasn't until a Collingwood official overheard it after the game. He didn't direct it at the player but at the player's contest describing it as the F word.
Supposedly, Rankine wasn't aware the Collingwood player had concern with what he said? It wasn't direct at the player but at his previous contest at the ball.
Reads like your saying the pushinment is having to work with the gay community.Rankine should be sentenced to 6 weeks working in a program with the gay community . Everyone is upset this keeps happening so obviously the massive suspensions aren't doing anything. Time to try education instead of anger
Unsurprisingly, you seem completely unaware that 'education' by way of a targeted counselling and support program is very much a part of the sanction handed out by the AFL to those found guilty of racial and homophobic slurs. Has been for years.Rankine should be sentenced to 6 weeks working in a program with the gay community . Everyone is upset this keeps happening so obviously the massive suspensions aren't doing anything. Time to try education instead of anger
What? I said it was after the game the Collingwood players were talking about it.What exactly is the "players contest".
How loud did he call this "contest" a ****** that Collingwood officials heard it lmao

Fair? Powell used the same word once during the game. Immediately reported himself on the Suns bench and apologised to Lions player after the game. Powell got 5 weeks. Not really. Not as if he’s gone and admitted it to the afl put his hand up and said I’ll cop whatever. Think it ends at 4 weeks and that’s fair
Calling the player to apologies yesterday isn't consider self reporting?????
sounds like he only apologised after he knew it was being escalated to the afl.Calling the player to apologies yesterday isn't consider self reporting?????
Why do the gay community have to spend 6 weeks with the gronk?
It’s not the responsibility of marginalised groups to educate and rehabilitate the bigots who demean them.
Don’t pretend for a second that education about this stuff doesn’t already exist. AFL players are given explicit access to it. You suggesting that Rankine is only being treated with “anger” is nonsense.
You also don’t know that the suspensions aren’t helping. Do you assume that punishing drink drivers “isn’t doing anything” because some people still drive drunk?
Your entire post is full of bad arguments and trying to frame the belligerent as the victim.
I completely reject homophobia. It has no place in society and must be eradicated. However, the AFL’s long suspensions for homophobic slurs demonstrate inflexibility and rely on the wrong disciplinary tool. These slurs are often used casually in Aussie culture as reflex insults meaning “soft” or “weak,” not literal attacks (doesn't make it okay).
This heavy handed approach is not in line with punishments for other on or off field offences. Poor respect for sexuality, typically expressed through off the cuff remarks, shouldn’t threaten players’ right to play. Education is paramount, both within clubs and in the public sphere. Financial penalties and comprehensive mandatory education programs would be far more effective than suspensions alone.
Despite efforts since 2014 acknowledging that real change requires education and cultural shifts (not just bans),
a more creative and balanced strategy combining consequences with education and awareness campaigns is clearly needed for long-term progress. Precedent suggests Rankine should face a five-week ban, but the AFL must rethink this approach moving forward.
Yeah, I heard that too. So I guess his crime would be self-homophobic-vilification directed towards his own actions slurring himself. It wouldn't appease the Gerard Whatley types though as the mere utterance of the word is something he hasn't heard in twenty years and a crime against humanity.Supposedly, Rankine wasn't aware the Collingwood player had concern with what he said? It wasn't direct at the player but at his previous contest at the ball.
