From The West Today (p160)

"Brett Peake had Dockers players and officials talking after an extroadinary effort during match practice on Monday. The 22 year old ran the ball the length of the field after a kick in, leaving the chasing pack grasping for air as he goaled".

:thumbsu: Judge Judy won't know what hit him in the NAB season opener. ;)

I'm not sure whether that's a great thing for Peake and Peakes future or whether our defence is desperately found wanting against pace

Do you think he should be able to progress quicker because he is more mature? OR do you think he'll struggle to make an impact because his improvement is limited due to his age?

I think he'll progress quickly, similar to his dad, a late bloomer.

We will have to see. My point was that he had to start making an impact now, if he didnt he would be gone.

He has a more mature body than the average second yr player but he still has the gaining of AFL experience and the game development that a young player must go through that is where the improvement will come from in his game.

There is the school of thought that his late introduction to WAFL and AFL will actually enhance his longevity, he hasnt the wear n tear and the impact of travelling with injuries that players his age are developing. So its just possible he will gain a year or more of top level play at the end of his career before his skills and speed starts to taper off as he heads towards retirement.

I'm not convinced that his clock is ticking as quickly as your trying to wind it.

How many 22year olds in the league have played less than 10 AFL games?

My original comment was based on the premise that he be classed a second year player and he be afforded the time and perhaps latitude that comes with that tag. I believe that if he wasnt showing signs at training now, he will never make it. The fact he is showing signs means he is a chance but I dont see a huge level of upside, upside which would normally come with a 2nd year player.

Why dismiss his efforts so far, for gawds sake give credit where its due. Your a sorry creature arent you ?

I agree he should be treated as such.

Your contradicting yourself I believe.

At worse all it means is he'll have less time to display his talents. He will still develop his mental and physical skills just as much as any player would with his amount of experience. Granted he wont grow as much as a youngster would but thats irrelevant for his position.

You conveniently ignore the non-physical side to a player. For instance a players work ethic and desire to learn also impacts a players learning curve.

A fair degree of a players standard of performance is his mental\non-physical attributes. Thats generally what separates great players from very good players.

Give it up, rather than looking for every reason why he wont be any good.

I see what you are saying and we will leave it there. This has blown into me looking like I hate Peake or something. I didnt mean for the argument to fall that way, I was just stating that he is older than most think. I dont mind him as a player at all.

I thought about letting you off the hook. But then I remembered your just another over-confident Eagle wannabe troll who haunts this board and tries to put a negative slant on anything Freo.

You see you can say something positive about Freo !

Dont you feel so much better for that ? :D

I can say some more positive things about Freo.

I think that McPharlin is a top player. I also think Pavlich is a gun.

Thats about where it stops.

Negative things:
- Slow midfield full of the same sorts of players.
- Poor coach who fails to extend his players.
- Lack of depth in the list.
- Inability of club to promote young players (Dunn, Murphy etc).
- Mentally fragile in big games or under some sort of pressure.

and the list goes on.

To be honest, my thoughts on Freo are no different to any other club. They are not biased because I support the eagles, this isnt a troll because I want your attention, its just the facts as I see it. I would feel and say the same things if you were the Kangaroos or Hawks.

I think that Freo is a club with alot of potential and I think on paper you should be top 4. That was my opinion afew years ago, as of now, I think you will just squeeze into the 8. I think you have let the club slide from being the most potential filled list in the league to another middle of the road side. I think you could have been a special unit.
