I was thinking of going in the $550 on Sunday

Get the feeling poker talk is non existent these days.

When will the US be back online?

Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

Very slowly

More and more states are opening up to the idea, Pokerstars is now operating in New Jersey as of recently

At its current pace though, its a long long time before we see anything even remotely close to the 'glory days' of US participation

Who knows though, something could come from nothing in the next few years

A more concerning trend is poker sites becoming less reluctant to offering beatable games. Many players touted the line "poker sites dont owe you a living" and it seems like the sites are starting to listen to that. So even if the US floodgates open back up we still could be looking at a landscape where the game isnt beatable

seems very much that way.

think poker will no longer be a "living" for most. obviously the few (that made their money in the 00s gold rush) and now make money off sponsorship will persists (dave n, phil ivey, phil hellmuth, etc) and of course the freaks like fedor holz will come though but i think the most it'll be a bit like chess / backgammon... a hobby played once in a while

I'll be there tomorrow, Sunday if I bink through; probably wearing a large tan R M Williams hat if its sunny outside. If there and you see someone like that tap them on the shoulder and ask and say hello. I can only get to the two casinos (the Star and Crown) a couple of times a year at the most. Could be a bit of a fish out of water experience, but whatever.

A few hands from the event:

Blinds 2/400; 25 ante, some French dude raises from UTG to 1600, guy FLATS from mp for 20% of his stack (he has 8k to start hand), I have 99 on the bttn and make a fairly standard call. French guys range pretty strong but a lot of Ax. Mp flatter is loose but I figure it has to be reasonably strong to flat for that amount of his stack. Flop 442, French guy checks, MP checks, I bet 40% pot, French guy folds, MP shoves I call, he turns over 43 offsuit, board runs clean for his trips. WP sir.

I raise Ajdd from the bttn, kiwi BB defends (this player ended up 10th in the event) flop is 783ccx, he checks, I check, turn board repeats 3s, he bets 2k I call (I have ~ 22 bb at the start of the hand), river repeats 7s, no flush obv, he bets 4k then holds his hands over the table for me to look at. They twitch nervously after he bets, I basically snap call his bet, he turns over Kjo. WP sir.

Earlier 43 guy raises, he's getting out of line, I 3 bet in the SB with AQ o, the bb who is the kiwi twitchy hands guy 4 bet shoves (first time he's done that), he has me covered about 35 bb to call, I pretty much snap fold.

Two typical post-flop hands:

Bvb, sb raises to 2.5 times, antes are in, I have a pretty standard defend with K9o from the bb (although from his previous play I figure this guy has a strong range and I'll be in a reverse-implied odds situation on some flops), flop is 1076 rainbow, great flop for my defending range he checks, I bet my gutter 40% pot, he calls, turn is a 2s, he checks I bet again about 35% pot, he folds.

Guy (who had earlier cold flatted a 3 bet from the sb) opens from MP, I 3 bet Aqo from the bttn, he calls, flop 542ddx, he checks I bet, he calls, turn board repeats 5s, he checks, I bet he folds.

I roughly agree about these comments for online; live is a very different story, especially in this country. The average Australian player is levels and levels below the quality of players from a place like the USA for example; probably one reason why professionals love playing the Aussie Millions each year.

I'm gonna be in melbourne for a work thing over the weekend, considering heading down to the poker pit late (ie after midnight) tonight & sat night. When I used to live in melb (approx 3-4 years ago) i did this semi regularly to play against the drunken masses. Used to be super soft. An regs know if this is still the optimal time to play? What is the scene/standard like these days? I havent played live in about a year but good(ish) online player & used to play live lots.

If anyone is going to be there around that time I'd be happy to have a chat

Played 1/3 friday night. Blokes on the table were intoxicated but was quite fun. We were playing 1/3/10-15 for most of the night lol
3rd last hand of the night,
I wake up to aces utg+1
Utg intoxicated raises to 15 as the straddle wasnt on anymore. I raise to 35 folded around to utg. He says all in for 500+ (he hadnt made a move like that all night) I call.
Flop k 4 7 turn 4 river q
I wasn't happy with the board at all.
I show aces. He says that will do it.
Said he had top pair.... ace king?

Played the $175 Friday Freezeout, possibly my first live tournament for at least 2 years

Finished 23/104 with 12 paying and $3900 up top. Was mostly card dead, never got on a run. Will play next Friday.

This may have come up previously in topic.
But I have been trying to play once a week at crown, different stakes from 1/2 to 2/5.
I have now noticed that poker players are not rewarded like BJ or Baccarat or the likes.
I find it quite upsetting as we pay so much in rake, and also pay time!
Do you guys agree? or do you guys think we are on a good wicket? I believe poker players should be rewarded just as much.

Games where you are playing against the house and the game is slanted in the casinos favour are obviously going to be taxed less by the casino because they want you to play those games. Crown, also obviously, has no competition so they can pretty much set whatever charges they want. Having said that I agree with you that it costs too much to play the cash games at Crown (or indeed any other casino in Australia).
