His kicking for goal improved a lot last season but at least he is capable of kicking freak goals. I would have him in my side over Perrie anyday but it really doesn't matter as Gill will be out for a while yet.

Not a legitimate excuse for Welsh, who has had an almost perfect pre-season until his recent bruised heel.

He's looked a million dollars in training, and a twenty cent piece on Sunday.
I wouldn't quite say a million dollars...
He was doing laps at both training sessions I was at, and looked fat and lazy both times. He's never been a hugely fit player, but out of every non-injured player he looked by far the worst.
Mind you, he did star in our Norwood trial, not that really means anything at all.

Play him deep then? I hear he's a great mark.

Do we ever actually play Perrie one-out in the goal square? I reckon we should try it. If anything, he's a big bulky man who could muscle a few blokes out of the way.
Hang on a minute. You would not play Perrie deep because he is a crap kick and would drop him but you would pock Gill and play him deep because he is a crap kick.

Sounds like a change for the sake of change to me ;)

I'm talking by Welsh's standards. :D

He certainly can't fall back on injury as an excuse this year so far.

Yet he will kick one over his head from 50 out on the boundary. The man is an enigma.

Yep. To be honest I'm really hoping he can get his body right and make his way into the side. I find him a hugely entertaining player. The game needs more characters like him.

Yeah true.
Welsh is Welsh. He'll play games like that in the middle of a brilliant run of form. God knows what he'll do next week - hopefully not more of the same.

Wait what? Nono, I said Perrie should be tried deep, I've always seen him shooting from 25-55 metres out, how about he stands in the goal square and just waits for the ball to come in?

His strength is his mobility. Despite his crap kicking, he's of far more use to us up the ground a little. He's not a reliable enough contested mark to play deep.

Someone suggested Griff at full forward. Has the leap, appears to have the hands, might be something to try against the doggies with their short defense.
As a pinch-hitter at best, at least until Meesen or Maric return to the side. Hudson can't handle the rucking duties alone, and even having the resting ruckman at FF will lower their overall effectiveness due to fatigue. In today's game, ruckmen need to rest. Griff has only played 1 game, and is extremelly skinny, so I'd question how effective he'd be anyway, even with his leap and height. He's not the answer.
Playing Griff as a forward with two other rucks in the side would be a gamble on its own, but in our a present state it's really not workable and would be too much to ask of a youngster. Both he and Hudson did spend time up forward on Sunday, but neither contributed much. Huddo took a mark and missed what should have been an easy shot on goal, but besides that they were largely ineffective, and I can't see this changing as the season goes on.
Basically, we're out of choices, and will be until our injury list clears up a little, unless Tippett does something miraculous.

Port started 2005 exactly the same as the crows have 2007, and we all know that Port fell from flag favouritism to no hopers. Injuries struck Port early but everyone still thought they'd turn it around but once you get down 1-4, 2-6, it's all over. So are the crows facing the same fate. I haven't been watching the crows that closely so I'd like the opinion of some well-versed crows supporters.

It might be a little bit early to be drawing conclusions. Sure Port in 2005 got off to a bad start but they also did in 2004. And the Swans have had notoriously slow starts to both of the last two years. It's a long season.
