Some people mentioned a thread detailing ALL injuries and missed time from the start of the preseason till current. Thought this would be interesting, so I am going to try start one. Any I have missed please post and I will add to the list. Also doing this so my mate who is doing army training for 12 weeks and is missing the crows season. So I will update it whenever I can

Tony Armstrong:

Nathan Bock: Missed last 6 weeks of 2009 with a fractured heel. Started light training in November continuing until 14th Jan. Was ramped up slowly and by 27th Feb was back to full training. Missed 2 Preseason games, played 2 Preseason games. Played round 1 and 2. Hamstring injury in Round 3, missed Round 4 and 5, returned round 6.

Brett Burton: Injured knee in first preseason game against Port which then required surgery, missing the remaining preseason games. 5th march began running laps. Missed round 1, returned round 2. Out round 8 to undergo an arthroscopy to clean out his troublesome knee.

Mike Cook:

James Craig: Hamstring in SANFL Round 6. Missed round 7 and 8 so far.

Patrick Dangerfield: Strained Medial Ligament in his knee early in preseason training. Was still sidelined on 23rd Feb. Missed some preseason games, but returned to fitness by Round 1. Injured neck requiring time in hospital in round 3 and only trained lightly but returned for round 4. Broke his wrist against the bulldogs in round 5, out for round 6 and 7. Made an early return in round 8.

Phil Davis:

Brian Donnelly: Had a very slow preseason, limited training and fitness was in need of improvement.

Michael Doughty:

Richard Douglas:

Tyson Edwards: Nursed soreness through preseason and was excused from the full extent of training.

Simon Goodwin: Injured in Round 2, trained lightly next week but recovered to play round 3

Jonathon Griffin:

Jack Gunston:

Ricky Henderson: Injured hamstring in round 5, missed round 6 and 7.

Trent Hentschel: Reoccurance of knee swelling in round 3 which has required surgery to fix. Missed round 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and is sidelined for a further month with his career on the line.

Jarrhan Jacky: Injured hamstring in SANFL round 6. Will be sidelined for up to 5 weeks.

Matthew Jaensch: Missed a few weeks of preseason with an injury sustained at training.

Graham Johncock: Broke his thumb towards the end of the preseason cup. Missed rounds 1, 2, 3. Returned to AFL round 4. Landed awkwardly after a marking contest injuring his AC joint, missing round 8.

Chris Knights: Hamstring in final game of 2010 began a horror run for Knights. Once the Hamstring repaired, he sustained a stress fracture in his foot which resulted in minimal preseason preparation. Then on 22nd Feb the injury occurred again. Missed the rest of the preseason and preseason games, spending a lot of the time in a moon boot. Missed round 1 and 2, returned round 3 only to have another flair up of the same injury in round 5. Missed round 6, 7 and 8

David MacKay: Injured groin in round 4, missed round 5, 6, 7 and 8

Ivan Maric: Had a light preseason workload like Edwards. Feb 28th injured back/glute. Missed 3 of 4 preseason games and missed round 1. Returned round 2

Brodie Martin: Did a knee in 2009 requiring reconstruction. Began running in preseason but is still listed as indefinite and likely to not return before round 14 2010

Shaun McKernan:

Andrew McLeod: Like Maric and Edwards, was excused from the full rigors of preseason training. Suffered an AC joint strain in round 7 but made it through training to play round 8.

Brad Moran: Injured his knee mid 2009. In an attempt to rush back for finals he elected to use the dissolving ligament surgery option. Declared himself fit for an SANFL return too early and re-injured the knee. Underwent a full reconstruction and is now sidelined for all of 2010.

Andy Otten: Injured his knee in the beginning of the preseason. Underwent a full reconstruction and will be out for all of 2010.

Jared Petrenko:

Jason Porplysia: Jan 19 injured pelvis which left him out of most of preseason training, all preseason games, and missed round 1. Clearly was underdone upon return.

Brent Reilly:

Aiden Riley:

Ben Rutten: Had a small knee clean out in the off season. Hampered his preseason but has played all AFL rounds

Chris Schmidt: Sustained an injury in 2009 which required shoulder surgery. Preseason was very limited due to a lengthy recovery.

James Sellar: February 28th broke his hand. Missed round 1, returned round 2 and pulled a hamstring. Has missed round 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Sam Shaw: Injured his shin in the SANFL and has missed at least 2 weeks, with another 2 weeks to come. Likely to return in round 8.

Rory Sloane: Injured an ankle in round 1 and has missed rounds 2 - 7. Return to SANFL in round 8

Scott Stevens: Concussed in round 1 and missed rounds 2, 3, and 4. Also missed round 5 after his wife went into labor with their first child. Returned round 6

Brad Symes: Injured his knee in 2009. Has since had 3 operations to fix the problem! Has missed all game time in 2010 and is rumored for a round 9/10 return.

Daniel Talia: Monitored preseason due to carrying an injury when drafted.

Luke Thompson: Monitored preseason due to carrying an injury when drafted.

Scott Thompson: Battled knee tendinitis all season. Feb 10th it flared up and he missed most if not all preseason games. Returned for round 1 but will be excused from the final training session of the week for the rest of the season. Suffered a calf injury mid week before the round 8 Nth Melbourne game and subsequently was a late withdrawal from the team.

Kurt Tippett: Like S.Thompson, is battling knee tendinitis and has been excused from the final training session of the week for the rest of the season. Injured an ankle in round 3 but recovered to play the following week

Nathan Van Berlo: Missed the end of 2009 with stress fractures in his back. Back to light duties at training on Jan 14th which continued until 5th March when he began full training. Missed some preseason games but returned to round 1 AFL footy. Back injury ruled him out of round 2, then a hamstring at training on the 8th April sidelined him for rounds 3 and 4. Returned to AFL for round 5 and looks underdone.

Bernie Vince: Feb 28th injured his hamstring and missed several preseason games. Returned for AFL in round 1. Had knee soreness in round 5 but was cleared to play following week.

Taylor Walker:

Matthew Wright: Suffered a knee injury late last year and underwent LARS surgery causing a very limited preseason and slow return to football

Will Young:

So far only 13 of 47 players have been injury free and havent missed any training or game time.

Must have been a lot of research gone into compiling that list, which is very detailed. Great effort!

A couple of minor details..

Thought Johncock's broken thumb occurred in the week leading up to R1, not in the middle of the MMC campaign. I could be wrong though..

Also, Brodie Martin is expected to return (via the SANFL) around R14 this season. His year is not yet over at this stage.

Fairly sure that most of our 1st year draftees had injuries at some point during the pre-season. Fairly sure Talia's pre-season got off to a late start due to a pre-existing injury as well.

Thanks Vader, all I was going from was reports from the AFC website. Will update this now

If you got all that lot from the AFC (or any other AFL sub-site) then I commend you for your perseverance. The AFL website is a nightmare to find anything on.

Once again, great effort. :thumbsu:

Great effort to do this. Again a very minor detail but didn't Burton play Round 1 NAB vs Port but then pulled up sore with his knee and then underwent the knee cleanout.

Thanks for going to the trouble - looks even more depressing when laid out in one post.

Great post.
Matty Wright did his knee late last year, and missed most of the preseason after having the LARS surgery. He's still finding form in the SANFL, and seems to be spending a lot less time on the ball than he normally would for North.

Haha yeah took me a while to figure out. Just had to go through all the articles from November. Had a quiet day of sales at work so some spare time well spent ;)

Thanks, added in. That makes only 18 injury free players from the 47 on the list.

Taking into account there are players with more than 1 injury complaint this season, seems Adelaide have had around one injury every 3-5 days of 2010.

VERY minor point, but Danger has a broken bone in his hand, which occured in another incident in the game against the bulldogs, not when he crashed into the goal post.

Pretty sure that Matthew Jaensch hurt himself at training during pre-season as reported on BigFooty and that put him out for at least a few weeks. From the training reports on BigFooty it appeared that Donelly was in the restricted group at training for a very long time too (not that this really impacts us at all).

So far only 19 of 47 players have been injury free and havent missed any training or game time.

even worse, only 4 of those 19 could be classed as regulars in 2009 - McLeod, Doughty, Reilly and Douglas. 5 if you count Walker.

most of the injured have been regular or fringe players, most of the unscathed have been 1st and 2nd year players.

wasn't injury related
they didn't want to overwork him with him training with Centrals as well

also, PorplyZia

I bet it was in the next quarter when he flew into a pack at half forward.

All updates have been made.

Lovely work, I've been meaning to do this myself for a while, glad to see you took the time instead of me ;)

A couple of things - I'm fairly sure Donnelly has been injured throughout the preseason. At the very least, he's been running laps, but that might just be because he was unfit.

Schmidt was also recovering for much of the preseason from his surgery last year (on his arm or shoulder or something?)

Talia was injured when he arrived as well from recollection. I think Luke Thompson might have been as well.

Sorry I can't give you more details or references :(

Had a shoulder reconstruction half way through 2009, after playing for the SANFL in the state league game vs the WAFL.
