2023. Round 4. Crows Vs Power.
Injury report.

Round 3 Team Selection.
1628941025403.png

The Crows and Power will play off for the showdown in round 4. During this coach’s tenure, the Crows are yet to win a showdown, and they have their backs to the wall at 0-3 in 2023. They will be still reeling after their loss to the Cats last round and there should be plenty of fire in the belly for this contest. Doedee (knee) heads a list of five omissions including Schoenberg, Irish, Bailey and Atkins. They players coming in are Mosquito, Wild, Urbanih, Ullmer (debut – pick 49 2022 National Draft) and Christen.

The Crows will be ecstatic after beating the Power in the showdown. Despite terribly inaccurate kicking and a plucky Power side, the Crows managed to display their dominance in the last quarter when they kicked eight goals to three. Pool was wayward in front of goal but finished 3 goals and he had good help from Murphy. Milera, B Crouch and Obrien played match-winning games for the Crows in the midfield. Ullmer did some really good things in his debut and looks like a run-and-carry type key defender.

Round 5 Team Selection.
1629003625673.png

The Crows continue to back in their youth ahead of their round 5 match against the Hawks. Irish comes back into the side and Callaghan (pick 31 – 2022 National Draft) will make his debut. Seedsman and Fogarty are the omissions. Daroche for the Hawks has had a blistering start to the season, averaging 145 fantasy points per game. Lewis has given the Crows defenders plenty of trouble in previous encounters and will have to be watched closely. B Crouch will play game 150.

1629070923822.png

The Crows have lost an intense struggle with the Hawks by one point in a cruel result. Lewis and Breust were just too good for the Hawks, and finished off the good work of Mitchell and Sicily. The Crows played well and were well represented by Sloane, Keays and Wild. The Crows will be left wondering what they need to do to get four points this year, but would take some stock in how close they are to major contenders.

Injury Report.

Round 6 Team Selection.
1629069812263.png

The Crows will play against big rivals the Kangaroos as both sides try to get their season started. Both sitting 1-4 with a decent percentage suggests they could be having very different seasons. The two teams played out a thriller in the last round of 2023 in which the Crows narrowly prevailed. This season may be a different story, as the Kangaroos had a good off-season compared to the Crows who were gutted by Free Agency. Stoddart has been a top acquisition for the Kangaroos and will demand significant attention from the Crows, who have brought in Fogarty, Hamill and Stengle for Kingdom, Christen and Callaghan.

The Kangaroos were too good for the Crows and came out 20 point victors in their Round 6 clash. This loss further compounds the slide that the Crows have made this year due to a rocky off-season. Comben was simply massive for the winners (21 disposals, 35 H/O) and was well supported by E Cameron and Polec. The Crows had good contributions from B Crouch and McHenry, but they had very few winners on a dirty day. Kicking at goal and opposition ruckmen remain as huge problems for the Crows in 2023.

2023. Round 7. Crows Vs Magpies.
Injury Report.
1629075004529.png

Round 7 Team Selection.
1629075029511.png

The axe has well and truly been swung for the Crows, who have made five changes for their Round 7 clash against the Magpies. Doedee and McGuirk return from injury, Brownless will make his long-awaited AFL debut (Ex Cats – upgraded rookie), plus Walker and Frampton both make a return. Obrien has been omitted, as has Dawson, Fogarty and Stengle. Urbanih (hamstring) will miss several weeks and his addition to the Long-Term injury list opens the door for Brownless. Its hard to tell if the Crows have resigned themselves to bottom eight or are fighting for a positive turnaround. Reigning premiers the Magpies do not present an easy task, as they are stacked with match-winners, none bigger than DeGoey.

The Crows have suffered a hiding at the hands of a sharp and determined Magpies team. The outlook is grim for the Crows now as they lost by more than 100 points, conceding 10 goals in the last quarter once the floodgates opened. The coach looked out of answers, and is likely to make wholesale changes once again. B Grundy, Phillips and Ukovic were all excellent for the Magpies, but it was the evenness across the 22 that really made the difference. B Crouch and Keays were good for the Crows, and Brownless made a good debut (25 disposals, 4 tackles, 6 in50 and 5 clearances). Frampton was outgunned in the ruck, showing that he is unlikely to be the answer in the ruck long term.

Round 8 Team Selection.
1629078107110.png
1629078204669.png

As predicted, the coach of the Crows has made significant changes to a team that lost by more than 100 points to the Magpies in Round 7. The Crows take on the Lions, and have recalled Fogarty, Bailey, Schoenberg, Sholl, Himmelberg (back from injury) and Atkins. Sloane (quad) injured himself at training, and Frampton, McGuirk, Hamill, Walker, Mosquito have all been omitted. The Lions haven’t had much success in recent years, but contain some seriously talented players such as Neale, Hipwood, Beaufort and Andrews.

The Crows have recorded another demoralising loss, this time to the Lions. It can now be confirmed that they have gone backwards after such a positive 2022 season. 13 goals to 3 in the second half helped the Lions to run out as 62 point winners in a lacklustre match for the Crows. Neale, Andrews and Rousarez were all particularly damaging for the Lions, while Himmelberg was excellent in his return for the Crows. Plenty to think about once again for the Crows coach, who has the full backing from the board.

Round 9 Team Selection.
1629080634057.png
1629080650883.png

In what is becoming the new norm, the Crows have made wholesale changes to the team after another bad showing against the Lions. Jones, Dawson, McGuirk, Obrien, Kingdom and Christen all return at the expense of Fogarty, Schoenberg, Atkins, Ullmer, Johnson and Murphy. The Crows will take on the Swans who are sitting 5th on the ladder. The Swans boast an abundance of match-winners, most notable Papley who has 22 goals to his name in just 8 games so far this season.

The Crows have recorded their third heavy loss in a row, this time at the hands of the Swans in the wet. At half time the Crows had scored just one goal, and although the second half was better they were still matched by a hungry and capable Swans outfit. B Crouch, Wild and Brownless were all very good contributors for the Crows who were just clearly outdone by a better side.

Injury Report.

Round 10 Team Selection.
1629162820587.png

Both the Crows and the Dockers will be keen to avoid earning last place in a bottom of the table encounter. Both teams have had very difficult seasons to date, and are out to prove their worth and perhaps get something going in 2023. The Crows have recalled Murphy, Johnson and Schoenberg at the expense of Pool, Jones and McGuirk.

The Crows have broken their drought of wins after overcoming the Dockers by a single point. In a messy affair between the bottom two sides, both had their chances to win the game but kicked inaccurately. Stearns kicked the winning goal for the Crows after Tabener (3 goals) had threatened to put the game away. B Crouch (38 disposals, 3 goals, 5 tackles, 6 clearances) continues his good season and he had good help from Christen, Brownless and Sholl. The Crows will take a degree of confidence to their next game, with still plenty of question marks over their 2023 fortunes.

Round 11 Team Selection.
1629165539770.png

The Crows will take on the 13th placed Blues in another match that will shape the bottom eight. Sloane has returned from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for three weeks, but Urbanih has been carefully managed. Pool, Callaghan and Milera join Sloane as inclusions while Irish, Murphy, Dawson and Johnson have been omitted. The Blues welcome back Cripps for this contest, but will have a big job limiting the influence of last year’s rising star, Serene.

The Crows have suffered another bruising and frustrating loss, this time to the Blues by 9 points. Keays was a clear stand-out for the Crows, who also lost B Crouch to a knee injury. Kingdom played his best game for the Crows and Doedee did a fantastic job on spearhead H McKay. First year Callaghan looked good in the midfield while Stearns day could have been much better after shooting 2 goals and 4 behinds. The Crows are expected to keep blooding their youth, to try and get something going for next season.

Injury report.

Round 12 Team Selection.
1629172035943.png

The Crows have been dealt two major blows in a week with both Keays and B Crouch suffering potentially season ending knee injuries. Their addition to the injury list has given Crabtree (Rookie selection – Ex Tigers) a chance to play at senior level. The Crows will play the Kangaroos this round, a team that has improved dramatically in the last 6-12 months. Jones and Seedsman join Crabtree on debut, replacing Keays, McAsey and B Crouch.

The Crows have lost by 5 points against a Kangaroos team who were inspired by Comben (24 disposals, 38 hitouts, 7 clearances) in the ruck. C Taylor was also instrumental for the Kangaroos, who struggled to shake the young Crows team despite owning the possession. Milera (37 disposals, 4 goals, 7 tackles, 4 clearances) was back to his brownlow winning best, McHenry played a good game and Crabtree did well on his debut. Kingdom (4 goals) is also starting to build some momentum and deliver on the Crows' Pre-season draft selection. Jones hurt his back in the second half and had to leave the field.

Round 13 Team Selection.

1629174403566.png

The Crows are set to take on the Swans for the second time this season, prior to their mid-season bye. In a wet game earlier in the year the Crows were no match for the bigger bodied and quicker Swans, and they will be hoping to put forward a much better performance this time around. Wholesale changes once again and only on of them (Jones – Back injury) is forced. Irish, Murphy, Dawson, McAsey (50th game), Johnson and Hanrahan all come into the side at the expense of Stearns, Bailey, Jones, Schoenberg, Hamill and Seedsman.

The bye can't come quick enough for a Crows side that continues to lose in tight games. The Swans overcame the gallant Crows by 10 points in an exciting contest, to leave another bad taste in the mouth for players and fans. S Gray was the match winner for the Swans, who otherwise were a very even team across the board. Brownless was best for the Crows, and has surely shown enough to win a contract for next season and beyond. Pool was disappointing once again, and he can expect some heat through the week at selection.

Round 14 Team Selection.
1629179724568.png

The Crows are set for another bottom of the table clash, this time against the Bombers who have the same win loss record of 2-11. Just the one change as Mosquito comes in for Pool, but the coach has hinted at some adjustments to the game plan. Shiel has been the Bombers best player this year, averaging 27 disposals and 6 tackles.

The Crows have unbelievably had their hearts broken again. After leading by 30 points at three quarter time, they were overrun by Langford and the Bombers who could smell blood in the water. What should have been a win was set up initially by McHenry (31 disposals, 3 goals, 7 in50) and Milera (35 disposals, 10 tackles) but they just weren't good enough for a sustained period of time. The coach must be really feeling this one, as he looked pumped at three quarter time.

Round 15 Team Selection.
1629188161951.png

The Crows play 9th placed Bulldogs in round 15 and will have to overcome the disappointment of last week’s horror loss against the Bombers. They’ve brought in Atkins, Woods (Rookie selection) and Bailey for Christen, Callaghan and Murphy. Bontempelli, Dunkley and Macrae are all averaging over 30 disposals in 2023, once again forming a formidable midfield. This is the first time that the Crows come up against ex-team mate Francis who left in free-agency.

The Crows were simply no match for the powerful Bulldogs, who needed a win to keep their finals plans alive. Hunter (37 disposals, 6 tackles) had a huge game for the Bulldogs, and their tall forward line was on song. Atkins was the best player for the Crows, from a very short list. A flattening loss for the Crows, who now seem to have the cue in the rack now. To make their day worse, Himmelberg went down with injury for the Crows.

Round 16 Team Selection.
1629190806149.png

The Crows will come up against the Eagles and play against Warner for the first time since he left through free agency. No-one is giving the Crows a chance, and for good reason – they’ve won just the two games this season and are trying new things with their 22 each week. Warner is playing at an incredible level this season (avg 30 disposals, 1 goal and 6 tackles) and is expected to poll well in the Brownlow. The Crows have recalled Fogarty, Pool, McGuirk and Schoenberg at the expense of Mosquito, Himmelberg (knee), Woods and Hanrahan.

The Crows continue to sign off from the 2023 season with a 99 point loss to the impressive Eagles. Warner was massive for the Eagles as expected with 29 disposals and 3 goals while Naitanui had 52 hitouts. Highlights were few and far between for the Eagles, but McHenry continued his good form. The Crows are now appearing so far off the pace that it is embarrassing to watch them.
