Was thinking today as I was walking down Pirie St about the "Planet" site an how has it remained empty for so long. It is prime real estate and a great venue. Would make a great pub/cafe or even retail showrooms.

Surely whoever owns it would see this, or are they being compensated anyway and it is not worth doing anything with it?

I'm not questioning the motives of the club at all. I'm sure they do just want to help kids. Just disappointed at the association with an organisation that implies that anything other than a heterosexual marriage is sub-optimal family.
Like Jerry's query to Elaine on her new boyfriends

"But what is his stance on abortion...?"

Damn youngsters it was the Oaks Tavern!

Owned by sisters, licence suspended till Jan 31st. Court case over the licence by the same people who ran Players including Bone so that may be another reason that he is a bitter old campaigner.

To me it is too far from the oval for a game day venue. Then there is the problem that in a good year there is 14 games to make a profit from, what will it be used for the rest of the year?

In truth life is too short to be so petty. They are brothers in arms whether they like it or not. They will see each other at club events and premiership reunions for the next several decades. Might as well build a bridge, get over it and enjoy each others company like they should.

I get the feeling Edwards will be employed by the club in some capacity next year, perhaps in a development role with the SANFL side. He is probably making sure it won't be awkward when he runs into Bunji at the water cooler.

Hopefully most media and people can keep it private between them and not raise it every time they are interviewed. Happy to see it happen and great the 2 can find a way forward , but its never the same.

Agreed.

I said when he left Port that he wouldn't go interstate to further his coaching career with three kids at school and making their own strides in footy. A role at the AFC would be ideal for him.

Agree it is a stupid statement, nearly as stupid as thinking banning guns will stop people killing each other or by banning guns the bad guys wont be able to still get them.

But back on topic it is incredibly rude for people to light up a ciggy when we are crushed together on the bridge.

Jim Jeffries says in his bit on gun control that the favoured weapon used in mass shooting is $1k from Wallmart (or similar) in the USA or $30k on the black market in Australia. Up to you to determite if he's right, but can say that I was offerred a glock if I wanted one for about $2.5k. Not sure what they cost normally, but that seems expensive to me.

Will van Berlo be able to sue the club for the injury he copped at training from the sled?

Not saying he will, just asking

Wouldn't he have to prove that he suffered loss. Not sure he's in much of a position to do that. His b&f results the previous 2 years were shit and he wasn't much, if any, worse upon his return. His career has gone exactly as it looked it would after the 2013 season.

If Wayne Carey and Anthony Stevens can make up, it would be great if these two could. I think the wives might be a problem though.

Well they are entitled to that view, despite progressives trying to shut down any kind of contrary opinion and being offended by everything and everybody who are , frankly, brave enough to express their beliefs - but that's a whole other thread:)

Surely help for kids is what's really important

Yeah, nah, I'm sure there are other worthy charities that help kids that aren't stuck in the 1950's with regards to civil rights.

Any other civil rights you think they should be entitled to disregard?

I had to be reminded in the past that the Salvos were a religious group, not a charitable Organisation. I had always thought they were just about helping the disadvantaged and didn't realize there was this whole God botherer side to them.

Titus's take on staying safe in Rio during the Olympics, probably more truth than comedy.

Tips for staying safe at the Rio Olympics

The Rio Olympics are almost here and while many are quick to point out the problems the city is currently experiencing, a few simple steps will keep you safe and maximise your enjoyment of the games.

  • At all times, travel with your security detail of 30 people. Only leave your armoured car when they say it’s safe to do so
  • Only consume food and water you brought from home
  • Win over locals by showing off your mastery of Spanish at every opportunity
  • One of the easiest ways to stay safe in Rio is to not go there
  • Much like in your own country, poor people are best avoided
  • Rio’s police are more dangerous than the criminals. Be sure to take plenty of bribe money if you do encounter them
  • Carry your money in a money belt under your clothes like everyone else is told to do, so thieves know where it is
  • Avoid any of the venues hosting Olympic events
  • Ensure you carry details on you at all times of who should be contacted when you’re kidnapped
  • No matter what anyone tells you, golf should not be in the Olympics
  • Rio’s crumbling infrastructure mean it’s best to avoid things like roads and buildings
  • Make no outward show of your wealth. Instead, dress in rags, don’t wash and ensure you are suffering from malnutrition to avoid becoming a target for thieves.
  • Make sure the person you’ve entrusted to pay your ransom will pay it
  • If you accidentally drink the water in Rio, sit down and write out your will
  • Try to minimise your exposure to Rio’s air pollution by only breathing when absolutely necessary
  • While there are simple precautions you can take, you’re totally getting the Zika virus
