I have not fact checked this, but PAFC have created history again today.

They are the first club to replace their Men’s AFL coach and now their women AFLW coach.

If I’ve got this wrong, don’t really care as I’m not checking that fact.

Its all about the gulf in class and wasting everyones time.

Also need to keep in mind that now a team that finishes 7th has to play and win 3 games to just make a preliminary final. All this while travelling aside from wildcard round. A top 4 team can just play and win once to make a preliminary final.

The path to a GF is this in games played
7-10 4 games certainty
5-6 3 games certainty
1-4 2 games winning advantage

The advantages are absurd for the top 6 teams now and the remaining have been basically told you are going to waste everyone time so we will make it impossible for you to make the GF.

So in the 1 hand final 10 rewards mediocrity

But it also increases advantage to the top 6, so that encourages/further rewards the better 1/3 of team

I’m not having a go at you btw, it’s just an interesting alternate way to look at it as an argument about the reason it’s not a good idea being the rewarding mediocrity

In that lense it’s a win-win for both sides if the coin

more teams in hunt for finals longer

But to win the flag you need to push harder to go deeper into the top 6 (this is especially true for Vic teams who prev could finish 7/8 with high chance of same “home final” of 5/6
