Crows Coaching Changes Needed

I wonder what it would take to snare Dean Cox as a ruck coach after his playing days are done? I vaguely recall he had expressed interest in going into coaching. Obviously unproven as a coach, but geez I reckon he could teach our ruck/s a thing or two about working around the ground.

no one on this board knows how good or bad the coaches are at their Job so suggesting coaching panel changes are needed is crazy

Have you heard about this new fangled invention? Its a called "the ladder"

Might be worth taking a peek :D :p

so blame the players their are the ones who influence the result not the coaches.

i have read on this board that campo was a bad Midfield coach in 2011, was a good Midfield coach in 2012 and now is a bad Midfield coach in 2013, you either think he is a good, average or bad Midfield coach not change your mind every year based on the clubs on field performance.

Ummm, mind=blown.

Yep we're all crazy here on BF.

We've killed it in the middle and the rucks this year. Jacobs is just getting better and better AA ruck for sure. Comes a time when new ideas are needed and the Doc, Bicks and Campo have all been there for a while. We've been out coached far too many times, the selections have been puzzling to say the least and there are plenty of better options to take us forward.

I doubt the club would pass over Tredrea, if they felt he was the best forward coach, because it might be a big unpopular with the supporters.

You know what's really unpopular with the supporters? Continually losing matches despite having more scoring shots. At this point they could resurrect Stalin and make him our forward line coach, and if our accuracy improved the supporters would be happy with the appointment.

If we hired Tredrea and sacked Trigg at the same time it would balance out

didnt read past the first post but a fitness coach is not a need. I sat on triggs table for lunch at the dogs game and he was happy with the fitness coach. Sando directed him to do what sando wanted, which turned out not be be the best, so it was more sando's fault than the fitness coach's

Lade was always certain to be ruck coach and done great job at Richmond as certainly turned Maric game around.
Interested to know if anyone aware why Scwherdt was pushed out at Crows.

schwerdt had been at the club for quite a while (~10 years, is that about right?) and it was time for a change, i think it might have been his choice. More money and a change of scenery?
the new fitness guy, i forget his name right now, wasnt he brought in for a year before schwerdt left as well?

At least Stalin wasn't a soft ****.

So why do we have coaches then?

Is it not their role to ensure that they can get the very best out of their players? To instruct and coach them on not only how to play their role, but how to improve as players? To create structures and gameplans that will stand up when the pressure's on? To inspire the players and ensure they're at the top of their game? To make the tough decisions and drop players who are under-performing or can't play their role due to injury?

Yes you would have read that, but chances are it was different posters who were praising Campo in 2012, that were praising him in 2011 and 2013. Campo has been at our club for 4 years now I think, 3 of them have been horrible and the 1 good year has coincided with a new senior coach, the addition of an experienced assistant and quite conceivably the natural development of players such as Dangerfield, Sloane, Jacobs and Wright, who all had career best years in 2012.

This year, our midfield structures/set ups have been an absolute shambles, right from the word go our midfielders have been playing from behind and regularly 2nd to the ball, our ruckman hitting the ball no where near our players (this has improved however), whilst leaving friggin runways for opposition midfielders, even ruckman at times, to clear the ball by foot and kick un-pressured into their forward 50.

This is without mentioning the number of opposition midfielders who have kicked massive bags of goals because our midfielders play unaccountable football. Now its easy to say our midfielders should be more accountable, but surely it is Campo's and the rest of the coaching departments job to pull them up and say "MAN UP!!!" or more to the point work with them to improve their defensive running and if these players cannot or refuse to play more accountable football, you drop them. Simple as that.

Since Sando has taken over after a disastrous 2 years under Craig, just 1 assistant coach has moved on and that's because he has ambitions as a Senior coach and realised he needed to leave Adelaide. The rest of the mob are still there. When Craig took over, he sacked Ayres entire assistant coaching panel and brought in his own group of guys. Chances are if Craig hadn't quit, he probably would have coached on into 2012 such was our clubs unwillingness to hold anyone accountable. Oh, except for Rendell, he had to go.

Contract or not, Sando needs to have his own coaching panel, not Craigy's plus a couple of additions, especially now that Sando would have an intimate knowledge of his playing group and the side is already starting to look less and less like Craigy's. In my opinion Bickley, Campo and Clark need to go, we need fresh ideas from across the competition to ensure continued improvement in our side.

Great points James and agree but dont want to see anymore ex Geelong personnel for as you pointed out need to get new fresh ideas as already have Geelong influence well and truly already.
My concern is though will they give Bicks the push as a true member of boys club and Clark friendship with Sando .
But we all agree must find a true forward coach.

I'll support this. Poulos is an absolute expert at what he does, but he is also bound to the whims of the coaching staff. They tell him what they're looking for, and he implements a program to make it happen.

I think the club misread the tea leaves on how AFL was developing, asking for stronger, bigger players rather than fitter, faster players.

We are extremely lucky to have someone the quality of Poulos at our club.

Lets assume the Essendon 'situation' leads to a mass club exodus...

S.Goodwin anyone? "Whatamybid"?

All AFL fitness coaches would be experts and well qualified and therefore it is a matter of getting best one possible .
Essendon definitely got it wrong and even club has admitted that got it wrong this year .
Maybe Sando input did not help Poulus get it right but same as AFL coaches everything from future contracts etc are arrived from results and lack of success will lead to different direction for coach involved.
