Crows Coaching Changes Needed

Do you think he would be a better mid field coach than Camporeale?

Might've been Hodge, but one of the games current stars said that Bolton was a brilliant on field leader, and was a massive factor in the structuring and discipline of the Swan's forward line.

And, when it comes down to it, it couldn't be any worse.

Our forward line structures and patterns have been terribly bad, all year.

Getting coaches and/or recently retired players from successful teams is smart.

Retaining coaches from unsuccessful teams for many years isn't.

Ten news: Bickley re-signed for another 2 years, likewise Milburn, Camporeale still a year to run so no changes likely.

Great.

Does anybody know if we actually still do have forward/mid/defensive coaches?

Listening to another assistant the other week, from one of the top teams, they no longer have that structure, they have;

- Coach for when you've got the footy.
- Coach for when you don't have the footy.

And I think they had a coach for midfield setups and when the ball was in dispute.

Clearly all our coaches are for when we have the ball. Hopefully we will add a couple to take on when we dont have the ball next season.:)

West Coast fallout begins as Walsh quits

By AAP, with Alex Malcolm8:00pm AEST Tuesday, September 3, 2013

THE FALLOUT from West Coast's disastrous campaign has already begun, with strategy and innovations coach Phillip Walsh quitting his role at the club.

Walsh, who joined West Coast in 2009, intends to return to South Australia, where he had lived for a decade before moving to Perth.

"Phil told me a couple of weeks ago of his intention to return to South Australia, I wish him well for whatever the future holds."

What's the wrap on Walsh?
IIRC ......key brains behind Collingwood 2000 premiership

Pies fought hard to keep the ex Richmond/Collingwood player ........smart strategist

Hard Rucci say he has to return for family reasons and said we were a chance because we should have more of a role suited to him and he was at Port with Sando and Bailey. Although I'm sure he has no sources. I guess it will depend on where the money comes from and who leaves.

Walsh and Burns will desert the sinking SS Worsfold.

Hope we don't touch either as their midfield has been rubbish since the end of 2011, what these two were responsible before.

Wonder if Jude Bolton would be interested in a midfield coaching gig? Would still love someone like Tredders as forwardline coach too.

The word is that we will probably be adding another assistant coach with the advent of the reserves plus expanding the player development team by an extra body. Who'll be doing what hasn't been revealed at this stage.

While all our current coaches are contracted for next year, there's no guarantee they'll all be in the same role.

Walsh was the success that was Williams at Port until Williams ego caused a split after the premiership and Williams and Port was all down hill after that . Internally know highly rated by their hierarchy and unhappy to lose him.
Seems strange that Sando would keep all same coaches when inherited most and on top of poor year.
Is Clark contracted as not heard was and would love to see replaced and definitely love to see a new forward coach with new ideas and maybe structure.

I'm concerned.

Seems like most clubs are making changes to improve their coaching stocks for 2014, yet the AFC remain in status quo. I struggle to reconcile in this day and age and with our poor development of rucks, that Clarke is able to retain his position for another year. Add to that the fact that Bickley gets an extension as a forward coach. Now you could argue that getting Bailey back in the box is a handy addition, but surely with all the coaching moves going on, we'd be in the ear of a few of the assistants to move to Adelaide, wouldn't we? Maybe other coaches who have been a part of other winning cultures and structures? There's rumours linking Voss to WC. Now he's the type of guy we should be targeting IMO.

I just wonder if Sando is actually happy with his coaches' performances this year?

Bickley is an interesting case study.

Apart from a stint in the media, he's been a permanent fixture at West Lakes since 1991. Nothing wrong with that. The man led us to two premierships. Much respect.

But here's what I don't get:

He applied for the head coaching job at the end of 2011 and didn't get it.

Have we all forgotten that he wanted to be a senior coach? Why hasn't he applied for other head coaching jobs since? Or has he applied and been knocked back? Why, after having the ambition and drive to be a senior coach 24 months ago, is he content to sign another extension as Sanderson's assistant? Has he changed his mind? Has he realised he doesn't have what it takes? Has he decided he's happy to be an assistant for life?

And Matthew Clarke, I don't even know where to start.

If you were an alien and landed on earth to view some of these contract extensions, you would think we'd just had a Hawthorn 80s or Geelong 2000s type era.

Four words, folks.

Jobz.
For.
Da.
Boyz.
