I don't think thats quite true!

Carlton showed interest in Jericho last year but we decided to keep him because we didn't like what they were offering.

As for this year, there is no way any club that was interested in him would have given up anything because they are confident that he would be delisted and they can pick him up for basically nothing.

I think he is a pretty good chance to get picked up!

Oh, I think he will be picked up for nothing elsewhere, probably by Carlton.

Other teams only see the flashes of good things that he does, not the soft attacks on the ball and man and the lack of chasing, tackling etc.

Wait until he has a game or two for his new club, whoever the poor bastards may be. Then wait for the comments of abuse to fly. :)

I am sorry I still do not understand the Massie decision, it is a position we really do not have a natural replacement for that is ready. And are you seriously telling me a 70 or 90 pick in the draft is going to work out better?

The 70/90 pick would have a better chance of being part of Adelaides next premiership IMO than Massie. Were minimum 3 years off.

I reckon they have some idea who pick 92 is going to be?

or maybe pick whatever in the PSD?

And Massie would be the huge age of 31. A dud pick at either of these picks could well be delisted in two years time.

Nope and neither does the club.

John Reid said on 5AA tonight that Massie was a bit stiff but we knew what he could do and it was time to find out what some of the other younger players could do such as Gallman, Kite and Cook for example.

Massie is really unlucky (a la Torney last year) but it's all a matter of list development.

Ah fair enough didn't hear the 5AA interview, but Gallman jeez, Kite is not yet ready as much as he has come on this year and Cook I haven't seen any of his SANFL games so can't comment and surely there is an injury cloud over him given his run this year?

Meh decisions been made now anyway so can't really do much about it. I can still be miffed about it though. :)

If we promote Petrenko to the main list Cappy, we won't have a pick 92 - more like a pick 76 if all teams have 5 picks.

In this draft, that could still be a very likely player.

Jericho was drafted with pick 32 at the end of the 2002 season.

He's had six years to prove himself and earn selection, not expect it.

Why he thinks that the rest of the team has to bust their guts and he doesn't is beyond me.

On your bike Luke and start pedalling .

Probably suffered from being at the Crows for too long. Should probably have left a couple years ago and gone to another club who would have used him differently. Regardless of how soft he appeared on the field, he was a quick player who had above average skills. Players like Vince were given more game time earlier on in their careers after showing about the same level of skill and intensity as Jericho.

That being said, still deserved to be dropped as he doesn't have a role to play at the Crows.

Happy I won't have to see Bryce Campbell in Crows colours again.

But we've effectively chopped Massie for pick 92. What's the point of that? Surely Massie should have been a required player with Bassett's retirement. Prematurely delisting medium sized defenders is becoming a theme with us. First Hart, then Torney, now Massie...

Come on ..... Massie is no Torney and he's definitely no Ben Hart. Younger and better credentialed players than Kris Massie have been delisted across the league this year.

Secondly, 5 draft picks on my calcs = 10, 26, 42, 58 then 74. So he's not gone for pick 92 ... or am I missing something?

I thought Massie was a good player for us but if the only alternative was to delist a 21 year old promising player in Gallman, then you have to do what you have to do. Doughty and Shirley had better seasons and play midfield so Massie can't stay ahead of them. So who else to get the 5th draft pick?

From the OP:
Adelaide at this stage will have six picks (TBC) 10, 28, 44, 60, 76 and 92 at the AFL national draft in November.
Aside: I see there is once again two priority picks this year.

We have 6 picks atm but we will most likely upgrade Petrenko so we'll have 5 picks.

Predictable delistings

Massie, obviously unlucky and a victim of providing more opportunity for Kite, Gallman and Cook, my understanding is that their is some huge wraps on Cook

Jericho, 33 games in 6 years not good enough, however I would not be shocked to see another club pick Luke up late in the draft

Campbell, very workman like, however more highly rated young midfielders on the crows list

In regards to the Rookie list

Petrenko, must be upgraded, his speed and ability to run lines is exactly what we need

Moss, all this lad needs is a full pre-season, definite chance to be upgraded early in 2009 while Birdman is on the long term injury list

Curnow and Martin, probably have not done enough

all the best to Massie, Jericho and Campbell :thumbsu:

Sad to see Massie go. IMO he always gave his all, unlike Jezza Mad Dog who had the pace, skills and height that Masse lacked but didn't like to lay a tackle. If only Massie's endeavour could have been implanted into Mad Dog!

In regards to our future backline, as most people say as Petrenko will be upgraded and I believe will slot into a HBF position nicely. Personally I would like to see a structure of:

Johncock Rutten Hentschel
Petrenko Bock McLeod

This will be better for Hentschel's knee as less turning around and he has previously played very well in the backlines.

I also hope to see Dangerfield play in the forward pocket in his first 'real' season and Douglas get moved into the midfield as a tagger (replacement for Shirley). Dougie seems to lack pure 'goal sneak' awareness and though did well in kicking 20+ goals this year, missed many more. IMO he will be a good player but is just better suited to a midfield role.

Just a reminder of the 3 biggest delists the club has had (at the one time).

A Jarman, C McDermott and A McGuinness.

Won back to back flags immediately following.

Jarred Patrenko has been elevated already

Unless I missed an announcement today, he hasn't. He got upgraded during the season courtesy of the Biglands injury but at the end of the season he reverts back to being on the rookie list, where he resides now.

I believe John Reid said we'd get an announcement either tommorow or Wednesday on the status of the rookie list.

Sorry to see Massie go - legendary bloke, who always did his best, whether at the Crows or at Norwood.

Also a little sad for Campbell; I think the delisting is fair, but I'm disapoointed he didn't get more of a shot.

Jericho - about time. The reports of his whinging about not getting enough of a shot really says it all.

All three had to be dropped, I could have also added Shirley for list development reasons.

Gallman appears to be ideal as a tagger or back, Armstrong is probably the lucky one.

Massie and Campbell I doubt will be picked up but Jericho may. Plenty people are bagging him but take it back to the start of the year and people were saying he was hard done by. Plenty of games he played, kicked a couple and then was dropped, so I understand his com plaints.

Saying that he needed to go and at a club with a decent forward strucutre will be good as he has all class, plenty of teams have soft players, but have tough forwards to match, we don't

Yep, you're right on the money in all respects there. My tip is that they will do the rookies tomorrow so as not to keep them in unnecessary suspense - and I'd be staggered if they hadn't worked out who's who and who's going by now.

One thing John Reid said horribly wrong on 5AA today was the following:-

“[Next season] we’ll end up with something like 24 guys who either haven’t played a game or have played a maximum of three games, so we’re going to have a very young and inexperienced group. "

I just had to check that comment of Reid's as it seemed inconceivable to me that we would only have 16 players including veterans who had played more than 3 games.

As we only have 10 including Petrenko in that category now and we will be drafting 5 more at the national draft, I can't get that to add up to more than 15 even using all available fingers and toes.

To plagiarise Choco Williams (ugh): "John Reid, you were wrong!!" :)

List development is a piss poor excuse to delist a definite starting 18 player who is not even 30 yet. I'm glad none of you are anywhere near the actual list management.

I didn't hear the interview, but saw the quote, and thought it was dodgy. Perhaps the 'something like' was his out ;).

So 15 is 'something like' 24?
