I don't think 2009 will be an easy draw at all if we based the teams on their 2008 form. I think 2009 could be a bit different. Geelong probably won't be as good but still top 4. Hawthorn are now the team to beat. Carlton could be a potentional top 4 side. I'm pleased we are playing Collingwood first next year, a chance to get them back. The showdown in Round 6 is a Port Home game. Only 1 game at Subiaco Oval next year. Good to get 3 games at the MCG, we play our better footy there.

14 WINS - 8 LOSSES

We have a challenging start to the season and probably get our best run of games in the middle of the season. Round 18, 19 and 20 are the toughest games. Don't worry about West Coast been a bogey side because Collingwood has always been our bogey side so beating them at least once next season could make all the difference. If we do play finals I would like to see more Finals at the MCG, we havent played an MCG final since 2002. I think we will have a better midfield next season, it will be stronger. The rucks should be a bit stronger too and I expect the team to play tougher and more physical. We are a good chance at top 4. But anything could happen to ruin it, such as lots of injuries, ect. You can never predict what happens in a season. That's the amazing thing about it all. All in all we could win the flag next year and surprise everyone but its unlikely.

9 WINS - 13 LOSSES

so really pivotal this year is how you guys fair against port and carlton who are likely to be the two teams pushing up from outside the 8.

tough draw, killer start which could make it hard to build momentum to start the season, mind you win 3 of the first 4 and you could be in for a good year

17 Games on Foxtel! It keeps getting worse!

I really don't want to get Foxtel, just to watch around 15 games for the year. Especially when you have to sign up for all the shit channels and the football is considered and extra.

BASTARDS!

this is true but it is slightly misleading.

we actually have every game on free to air in our own state which you could argue is better than collingwood who has 18 games on free to air shown into melbourne.

free to air is always going to be tilted towards victorian teams purely because of the size of the population thus that is their major viewing audience. Obviously they are going to attempt to maximise the viewing audience, afterall the have paid a fortune for the rights to show who they want.

thus we are going to have to put up with this until we are bigger than victoria or until the afl will discount the broadcast rights in return for balanced broadcasting. neither is going to happen in the near future.

That's too much sense from a Port bloke ;)

All Crows and Port games are FTA where it matters in SA, until they are not we have nothing to complain about.

is that a cut n paste job.... or did you deliberately change "Port Adelaide" to "Port Power" ??

Its just interesting that they are referred to as both in your draw above depending on what round you are looking at?????

I don’t believe it’s purely population based but more along the lines of creatively double dipping from the networks. Because of the current TV agreement stipulates that all SA and WA games will be shown on free to air TV, channel 7 and 10 don’t have to make our games a priority selection. They purposely selected the Victorian games as they get to show that game in Victoria and with the agreement they get to show the SA and WA games on Free To Air in those markets as well.

I believe in the next TV broadcasting agreement we will see SA and WA clubs lose the free to air option and then the double dipping by free to air networks will end.

If we can get to round 8 with a 4 & 4 record I reckon we can finish top 4.

The harder the draw the better I say. We will know a lot about this list in years time.

I am surprised that no-one considers the 1st round against Collingwood a winner. Consider this:

We come out firing early in the season
They seem to start slow and build up

I know they have been a bogey team of ours lately, but I truly believe that this one is a 50-50.

its a bloody hard draw - no question. yes it will show us 'where we are at' etc etc but what it may not do is let us win enough games to play finals foooty based on the prospects of the teams we play twice

uhh! so many twilight games. i hate twilight games! both sunday and saturday ones. there's usually 1 twilight game a week and crows play 6 of them (though not sure whether the Freo twilight sunday game at Subi means normal time in Perth or twilight game in Perth, meaning it'll start at night here).

Just put up which Games I thought wed Win/Lose

IMO there are alot of games this year that could go either ways: The showdowns, The collingwood games, Brisbane, The Carlton ones.

This year is a bit of an unknown for me but I hope I tipped right:).

Few too many Sunday Twilight games for my liking.

Don't mind the draw that much really, Sunday games mean I won't miss out on seeing too many matches due to my own footy commitments and 2 games in Queensland is also a bonus. What does disapoint me is the lack of exposure we get on free to air up here.

So by my relatively conservative calculations I have us at 10 almost definite wins, 5 almost definite losses and 7 50-50's, and if I divy up the 50-50s gives us a final tally of 13-8-1, placing us in the bottom half of the eight, which IMO sounds about where we should be at.

Edit: I also must note that I think its good for us to have a tough draw, it will keep us on our toes and hopefully the boys will see it as a great challenge and really take it up to some of those tougher sides. If we can make the finals on the back of that schedule, then we will have had a much better preparation for them than if we'd had an easier year and not had to work as hard to get there.

I agree there but simply if we are good enough to play finals we should be able to match it with the likes of: Collingwood, St Kilda, Carlton, Defintly Freemantle I dont know how their bigger odds than ours.

Also North Melbourne $34.00 unbelivable, Id get on that straight away as an outside chance.

good point. i agree. its just im not sure we will be good enough to match it with such teams, hence why we could slip to 9-11th next year quite easily

i agree; definitely a hard draw, especially coming off a season with the easiest draw we've had in years.
but since i doubt we'd make a real contention for flag next year, i think better to get this hard draw out of the way...but finishing low would not be beneficial in the years to come anway (due to new teams), so would want to stay within top 8 contention.

Happy with the draw - particularly the two games in QLD! :thumbsu: We are getting spoiled again! Also thrilled with the Fox coverage... as an interstater it's very important!

So hard to predict who will be the movers and shakers next year... remember we all thought the draw was tough last year and our first half ended up being a dream when you consider the drop in form of some teams. Can't wait for the season to start!

Frying pan is having a lend of you there, as the official one definitely says Port Adelaide for both games. :D

If all the teams carry their 2008 form into 2009, then we have one stinker of a draw by opponent and a good one by location.

As missionpossible has already said, the 4 games against Port and Carlton are the critical ones to our success or otherwise.

Win all those 4 and we should end up firmly entrenched in the top 6 let alone the top 8.

Lose all those 4 and I can't see us making the 8.
