I think I too would be happy with a straight swap the way this is going. I would say that Jacobs is worth more simply because he has shown he is AFL capable. Whilst he has been in the system longer than McKernan you know what you will get from him but I cannot say the same about McKernan.

At the same time I would say that McKernan edges Jacobs in the potential area so I am slowly growing to like the idea. But as you have said, they may have already rejected that idea.

TBH I'm sick of the back and fourth discussion about it and just want it to be over!

I actually think this is wrong in many ways. Due to the reduced interchanges, I think the main players to get a chance for a rest are going to be the Midfielders.

There is one thing that will not change with Jacobs and that is his height and his rucking skills. If you're talking about the second ruck option, then yes you need to have a mobile option. When you're talking about the number 1 ruckman, you want someone who can handle a high % of rucking.

Players like Sandilands, Jolly, Mumford and Jacobs will be worth their weight in gold. Big bodied and strong ruckman that can go all day.

Forgetting that Adelaide won the hitouts in our one & only encounter in 2010 - and we split them 1-1 when we met in 2009?

Adelaide's ruck division is much better than you (and a lot of other people) give them credit for, even without Jacobs. Conversely, Carlton's ruck division is nowhere near as good as you make it out to be, though it does have significant scope for improvement as players like Kruezer continue to develop.

Jacobs had 286 hitouts from 13 games this year. Maric had 370 from 21. Surely Jacobs would've got at least another 100 hitouts from another 8 games considering he had nearly 300 from only 13. In fact if he kept to his average of 22 disposals a game, then in 8 more games his total hitouts would be 462, almost 100 more than Maric, your best ruckman.

Therefore Jacobs >>>>>> Maric

Because Talia was in his first year, developing down at South against harder bodies, and then did his knee at training just before a potential debut. Mckernan just had a frustrating year for South, did nothing outstanding. However all KP players take time, nothing for us to worry about. And we didn't cop injuries in the KP department all that hard, hence why they were never required. Both (especially Mckernan) will see some descent game time in 2011.

Please explain how they're going to lose game time in 2011 when they didn't play in 2010. Are they heading up SANFL reserves?

I don't see how that is true.

Going into the game with a quality ruck will be more important than ever now, as any KPP with a slight ability to ruck will more than likely suffice as a back-up ruck, meaning a heavier reliance on the no.1 ruck.

Regardless of how anyone views Jacobs, I think teams will soon enough start to 'reach' for a quality ruck, once a season with the new rule has past.

Holding onto Jacobs for a year may not be such a bad result.

Adelaide are being just as firm about their position, and Rendell confirmed this yesterday. Adelaide aren't losing anything here if the trade doesn't eventuate, Carlton are, which is why I see them budging first on Monday. Whatever happens though, just be thankful that it'll be all over!

Looks like the Grigg deal with the Tiges is getting near completion now, so they should be able to take Jacobs in the PSD.
