it wasn't a trick question...I'm just wondering if people have seen something i've missed, or maybe I just caught his not so good games....at some stage you have to be wary rating on unfulfilled potential.....especially if you are trading for players who are proven at AFL level.

I worry people get married to an idea...and once they do, they tend to look for confirming evidence while dismissing disconfirming evidence.....it's a natural human instinct...and one to be mindful of.

Correct me if i'm wrong but Ratts said Walker has two more years on his contract earlier this week when interviewed on the AFL site.

If that is the case he is out of reach of GWS next year and has two years to cement a place in our best 22 and with the interchange rule maybe coming in would be a valuable player for us, is one of the elite runners in the AFL.

I hope we dont trade him and if we do than the club knows somethink we dont know, required players dont get released from contracts very often, if they want to go or not.

Jacobs out of contract is a worry but.

Currently participating in a free and open exchange of ideas on the Adelaide board, and an exchange of first round picks (there 14 for our 18) and the Bock compo pick (about 28) was floated for Jacobs. If every Adelaide player able to hop on one leg and pat their head at the same time is deemed untouchable is plain ol' picks a better way to go?

With the compo pick people are quick to point out that it could be pick 18 or 19 next year, but I assume next year is every bit as compromised, and of course every year you hold on to such a pick is a potential year of development you lose. Can anyone confirm?

It's funny how Adelaide fans think Sellar hasn't developed because he hasn't been played in the right position at Glenelg.

Yet Young, McKernan and Talia are off limits and won't face the same problem down the track.

It might be a concern that Sellar hasn't demanded to be played forward by tearing a SANFL game apart.

Yet I read that it's as simple as having Judd kick it to Sellar to make him into an AFL forward.

Seller was drafted as a KPP with bucket loads of talent. As mentioned in another thread, he reminds me a lot of Dawes, a big bodied forward, who can take a clunk, has a reliable boot and fills the need for us in regards to allowing Hendo to play further up the ground, Waite either that High HFF or behind the ball.
Kreuzer will take a little while to recover, but when he does a 3 pronged attack of Kreuzer, Henderson and Seller would cause a fair bit of heartache from most back lines.
Walker for mine needs a new environment, id love to keep him, but i dont think he will be wearing the navy blue next year.

time will tell
So we're trading Jacobs to give him more chances, yet we're going to play Kreuzer forward?

The club sees Kreuzer as a ruckman beyond his recovery from injury next year.

You should.

yeah, you'd hate to have 9 clubs (in what they claim to be the strongest state league) to develop a wealth of talls in the position you want them to play in....

but of course he'll thrive with Carlton's development program... ;)

I think people should remember that Tippett played like absolute poo for the first half of the year, Sellar was only brought in once and immediately dropped. His own club don't think he's first 22 quality, although he got a few garbage games late to perhaps attempt to boost his value.

Pass.

You do realise Sellar had a broken hand at the start of the year and he then tore his hammy in his 1st game back?

I posted this on the crows board but want to know what you guys think about Jacobs nominating for pre-season and putting $500k on his head:

If a club is willing to offer him 500K for 1 yr then its a win for Jacobs (who would probably command $150k a year at carlton) and loss to carlton.
Therefore carlton would be crazy not to take what they can get from the crows for him.
Or Jacobs can do a Josh carr and tell every team if you pick me up in preseason before adelaide does i am still going to live in adelaide, and yet you will still have to pay me 500K a year, no club would be willing to do this.
Therefore best thing is for crows to tell him to nominate for pre-season, if carlton isnt willing to do a deal on our terms.

they dont pay him if he doesnt play, once you nominate for the psd & place a $$$ sign and a team takes you.
you must play for that team & the team must pay you the stipulated amount, if you dont go you will need to stay out of football for 2 years which he wont do.

if he enters the psd richmond will pounce no doubt.

He will play, but he will fly in and out for every game. Im sure legally he can do this. But no non-SA team will pick him up if he chooses to do this eg like the josh carr saga. Leaving him for crows to pick him up pay him the 500K 1 yr then renegotiate his contract for the future at a more reasonable price eg Luke Ball and Collingwood.

Sam probably wont do this, But who would have thought Luke Ball would do this to the Saints?

Carlton arent in the box seat with this deal, and if Sam wants out, carlton wont get much for him.

Your lucky the crows arent a club like collingwood who try and shaft everyother club. Also the fact we want Walker who is contracted means we are further unlikely to shaft you guys.

You know, Richmond have been brilliantly positioned in the PSD and "waiting to pounce" for about 7 years now. Despite all the "box-seat" predictions they haven't landed anyone of significance. And do you know why? It's because your Club is a total basket case that no player in their right mind would want to go to voluntarily.

Anyway on the Jacobs and Walker possible trades, money isn't an issue here. We have truckloads of space in the salary cap. It's a question of opportunity in the case of Jacobs, and to a lesser extent with Walker. Do you really think either of these players would want to play for a back-to-back 15th ranked side instead of Carlton?

:)

...arlton arent in the box seat with this deal, and if Sam wants out, carlton wont get much for him.....

Not true, because there are several Clubs after his services, and none of them have high enough PSD picks to force the issue. IF you can convince Jacobs to leave the Blues, you'll have to win the bidding war. 15th - 20th pick is about the value you'll need to shot for, assuming you can convince Jacobs to leave, and that's a big IF. Sounding like he'll stay at this stage, but there's a lot to play out.

:)

He is not the type of person who will willing **** over a club that he loves. His preference is stay at Carlton if he can be assured of more game time. Which he will get while Kreuzer recovers from his knee. Kreuzer wont be back until the middle of the year and even then might not play a big role for the rest of the year so Sauce would get his chance then to start and at the end of next year, he would be assured of going wherever he wants and Carlton are assured of a definite first round pick.

If Adelaide wants either Walker or Jacobs or both, they will have to make a deal that involves players and picks for them. And we are not talking about hacks like Sellars and any other non-first 22 players you might offer us. We are handing over proven AFL quality players, we dont want SANFL quality players you are trying to pass off as AFL quality players.

Jacobs is looking for the best game time, not for money. He will not walk for cash and would be relatively happy to stay if an appropriate deal can't be struck.

Exactly. And we could easily accommodate his money requests no doubt. The issue is whether we can convince him that he won't be stuck in the Bullants when both Warnock and Kruezer are available.

Times are a changing. I think the Tigers have demonstrated improvement this year.A host of young mids, all growing together, a respected coaching dept and an astute ruck coach not long out of the game to help his improvement, with the promise of being the No.1 ruckman, with a young ruck support cast, and the ability to reward further improvement may appeal to Jacobs.

jacobs wont be at carlton next year unless hampson is moved on.

he will be enticed by sa team & deal will be done, sellar seems like a good trade & parrot should be wrapped with that outcome. :)

finaly you get your wish parrot, you can have sellar's number on your jumper
