We were in a similar position with Warnock and we were forced to hand over quite a bit to secure his services, same principle will apply with this trade, you think Carlton are going to accept a list clogger like Sellar you are dreaming, and since when has Sellar suddenly become a KPD.

A potential KPD....potential. He has been playing out of position at Adelaide due to their needs and the fact that their feeder clubs don't give a stuff about their players and their development

Jacobs is a potential number 1 ruck but 3rd ranked at Carlton

Adelaide won't be giving up pick 14

They will probably hold onto to their Bock compo pick for a stronger draft than the one coming up

Richmond, West Coast and Essendon who all have PSD picks before Adelaide and look like they could do with a decent ruckman may not want to stand in the way of a player who wants to go back to his home state. I'm sure this home state thing is a political issue as much as it is a football issue, and he may get to Adelaide via the PSD

Fremantle secured a second and 3rd round draft pick from Carlton a couple of years ago because they wanted something rather than seeing him go to Melbourne in the PSD which they could have let happen.

I don't want to see a guy who has the potential to dominate leave us for nothing

I'm sure it will be protracted but Sellar is better than nothing

I wish I shared your optimism about getting something better but I just don't think we hold many cards on this one

Really hope I'm wrong

We're no longer in rebuilding, development or experimental stages. As of next year the club will be pushing for top four and hopefully more.

If we're letting guys like Walker and Jacobs go we need players that will strengthen our best 22. Not shit like Sellar, depth players, supposed potential players or average draft picks. They might be thrown in top of the deal but they can't be the main part of it. Unless pick 14 is involved it must be for players who will make our best 22 stronger otherwise I doubt a deal will be done.

The fact is that if Jacobs has decided to leave we either deal (and probably get unders) or let him go for nothing.

We have more of a say with the Walker deal. We control our destiny with this transaction a bit more than we do with Sammy

Strange that Adelaide supporters are willing to rate Mckernan on potential yet refuse to project with either Walker or Jacobs. The pick 28 is being rated as a first rounder on promise at SANFL level, despite playing just the one game for the Crows.

Yet Jacobs who's had a solid season at AFL level and was the dominant ruckman in a final isn't worth a top 20 pick in a weak draft.
Walker is 100+ games into his AFL career. The time for judging him on "potential" has long since passed. The only way to judge him is based on his performances.

Jacobs I'll agree with though - he should be judged on potential, the same as McKernan.

The most likely deal, as I see it, is along the lines of what PooMonkey has proposedL
Walker + Jacobs + Carlton's 3rd round selection --> Adelaide
Sellar + Bock Compensation pick + Adelaide's 2nd round selection --> Carlton

There is nothing there that would make Carlton want to do a deal, nothing at all.

You are about to get hounded for agreeing with me...as much as that is what I also see as a likely conclusion.

And so it shouldn't be

It may also depend on what other targets we have and whether we would like to get the Sammy trade out of the way to work on these
There is no way he'd go to the PSD and leave us with nothing, there are also the Power and a heap of Victorian clubs will come up with attractive offers for him. We're still in a position to get something very good for him.

I'm guessing Victorian clubs won't stand in the way of a guy wanting to go back to his home state given the amount of Victorians wanting to come home.

Brisbane have a quality ruck duo so won't consider it

West Coast after losing guys to their home states are also likely to shun someone looking to go home as well

There is a chance we could lose him

Dealing with Port for a better deal would be a possibility

It's been stated by enough posters with proven track records that he will not go in the PSD. Forget about it, he's just not that kind of guy and is very grateful to Carlton for where they've gotten him.

The Victorian clubs will be in his ear in a serious way and also Carlton's. At the very least they'll drive his price up but he may yet agree to go to one of them if a decent enough offer comes his way.

Then it's easy

Carlton refuses to trade him

Since he won't go in the PSD we keep him and pay him the minimum wage

Problem solved

As I posted on your board (won't copy and paste as it's a long post), I don't necessarily agree with that given most of those games came in his first three seasons of football. Still, his best performances have come just prior to injury so he's been unable to capitalise on them.

So if adelaide offer him $350,000 and also offer carlton bock compo pick
you think that he will stay at carlton to play for peanuts !!

tigers should get in his ear & offer him $1.6mil for 4 years if he comes free in the psd.

that would get the ball rolling

Walker & Jacobs - for Sellar & Bock pick (22?) you know it's happening :)

So you going to give us a reach around while you are ****ing us up the arse on that deal? I mean it's the least you could do considering that you would be raping us.

For Walker and Jacobs, we would require Bock pick and Mckernan anything less than that for 2 proven AFL quality players and you can get ****ed :)

It always gets quite violently homoerotic around trade week in these parts.

true... just reading that suggested trade made me feel quite violently violated... just couldnt help myself with my expression of outrage.

Just had a look over there, apart from that Davis_756 guy that's always red carded the Carlton supporters have been pretty realistic. Adelaide supporters need to realise that pick 14 in such a weakened draft is worth more like pick 22 most years and that McKernan really hasn't done anything to be rated so highly. may make a good key forward, but has a long way to go.

I have not even commented on the proposed trade offers other then to state losing Jacobs to receive McKinley as part of a 3 way trade was ridiculous.

As for my cards:

My 1st red was for calling Maxwell Haxwell on the Collingwood board which I received a warning for. As a result I couldn't resist saying to Quicky "I understand pies fans are precious about their captain" which he gave me a yellow for. It was then followed by a red for telling him to HTFU :)

2nd card was when I came on drunk on the Formula 1 board to vent my frustrations at that little german .... Vettel.

I can honestly say I have laughed after both incidents and would do it again, who really cares if you can't post for a week because some poor kids e-feelings got hurt? I still say Quicky needs to htfu.

So...

Jacobs for second round pick (27 or later)

Walker for second round pick (32 or later)

Sellar for our third round pick (52 or later)

How could we say no to that offer?

I'd rather we keep our third round pick than trade it for a set of steak knives.
I wouldn't lose any sleep if Carlton refused to send the 3rd rounder back to Adelaide. Jacobs & Walker for Sellar + Adelaide's 2nd + Bock compensation pick is still close enough to fair.

Will the Bock compensation pick be this years draft and what do you think the pick will be top 15?
