The Crows are play hardball when it comes to gaining a genuine AFL-quality ruckman which they desperately need, and then they go and fork out first and third round picks for a proven spud who will add little to their team and structure?

Odd club.

Excursions to the $2.00 shop are usually not very fruitful also, as they only want to pay $1.00 for any given item.

Didn't realise careers peaked & ended at 23 years of age.

That's true. Tamblings peaked and ended at 17 :D

Seriously though, I really hope it works out for Tambling the man, as to have lived as the illegitimate child must have been pretty tough.
Always looked upon as being the mistake, would have messed with his head and this may just be what he needed.

Good luck.

Re Tambling, It's debateable whether we would have use our third round pick in this draft (#50?) as we have 4 rookies which are arguably better than the players who will be around at this pick (Luke Thompson, Jaensch, Henderson and possibly Schmidt). Upgraded rookies can count as one of your selections in the ND, so we may end up with only 2 draft picks in the National Draft (14 and 32). So really pick 50 was thrown in as part of the deal, as it doesn't serve much value to the AFC.

What is debateable is whether Tambling is worth the Bock compo pick (value pick 19 --> 28 depending what year it will be taken). That's a wait and see game, and no doubt people will hold differing views.

Back on track, I'm not sure what will happen with Jacobs now, I initially thought the Bock compo pick + a first round upgrade would do the trick. That deal now wont go through, so I'm thinking some sort of deal with Young, Talia or McKernan give or take a few draft picks or upgrades somewhere along the line. I think the AFC will hold firm and not hand over pick 14 even though Icke and Swann are holding out for it. Looks like it will go down to the wire.

Rumour is circulating that we're trying to deal with the Gold Coast to pick up Giles as a pre listed player and hand over a draft pick for him in return, so that is always another option if the Jacobs deal falls through. Giles was far and away the best SANFL ruckman this year so may be better value for, say, a second round pick than what Jacobs is for pick 14.

Few points:

-The Tambling trade was a total disaster for the Crows. You WAY overpaid.

-The only ones "holding firm" here is Greg Swann and co. The crows have been a confused, sooking mess throughout trade week.

-You need Jacobs, and we know it. Your other options are Laycock, Blake or Cam Cloke. See the point?

- You are correct about the Crows blinking and including a young KP player. This is the whole plan with our stance BTW. Logically it makes sense from both clubs point of view, but your club has been a confused mess all trade week, and it'll be a test to see if they're coherent enough to get such a deal together.

- Crows stuffed up the chance to get Walker.

- Port must be laughing at the Crows "performance" this trade week, and are now taking advantage.

:)

Im 50/50 about it. He may go better outside of the player development junkyard that is Richmond.

I love the fact that you guys offered more for a stagnated "midfielder', who can't play midfield, but was a 1st rd pick years ago compared to an improving Ruckman, who although has come off the rookie list, has improved significantly over the last 18 months and has huge upside and who would be a walk up starter in a key position for the club (1R) ..........

Is there an actual formula you guys use to determine what your clubs targets, and their worth, or do you solely go off of YouTube clips, original draft selection positioning and HS articles ???

Hopefully, but the only time he's produced decent football was at HBF and that was before the compartment syndrome and hip operations. You were looking for a quality outside midfielder but instead you got a player who has been a massive failure every time in the midfield. Even Hardwick took the blame for Tambling's 2010 failed season because he played him as a mid. You've used a first round pick on a guy who may be less crap than he was at Richmond.

You stuffed that trade. No point denying it. If you got him for a 4th rounder, then it would have been a "win-win". But that trade cost was a total disaster for the crows. They seem clearly rattled over the Jacobs situation, and just dug themselves in a bigger hole be reducing their options. BTW have you actually seen Tambling play in the midfield?

:)

We'll see. A change of environment and club/state may do Tambling the world of good. FWIW, I never said I completely agreed about the trade, I said I'm 50/50 about it.

Is that how you got Brock Mclean ?

If you're trolling an injury that's poor form and you're usually a better poster than that.

McLean is a much more proven player than Tambling, was touted as melbourne's next captain and filled a deficiency for us. His performances were very good this year until he got injured.

An inside mid (which we lacked) with a bit of mongrel (which we lacked) to help feed the ball out to our outside mids and block/release Judd and help prolong his career ........

Sure he has had a horrid year with injuries, and we probably over payed for him, but at least we addressed our needs for an inside midfielder with an inside midfielder, apposed to a need for an outside midfielder with (at best) a HBF .........

Yeah, I think we have stuffed up the chance to get Walker BECAUSE we possibly paid to much for Tambling BECAUSE you played hardball with Walker/Jacobs.

As for Jacobs, we don't need him. Maric is a competitor, Tippett's available if needed and we have Sellar and a few other young developing players if it comes down to it. So, even if we do offload Griffin we don't need to chase one of your back-up ruckmen.
