People keep saying this draft is more compromised than last year because of the 17 year olds going to GC.From memory these 17 year olds were actually due to be drafted last year until they made the new draft age 18.
Last years draft only had 9 months to select from. GC then selected there 17 year olds from the remaining 3 months.
This tears draft has 12 months worth of kids apart from Northern Territory picks.

No, the 17 year olds they took were from this years draft.

still can't believe this talk of trading Jacobs.

If the match committee got it right against port and picked Jacobs instead of hampson we would have won the game, played port again down here for the 1st final and would have won that game as well. With Kruz injured and looking to play forward in the future anyway then we defiantly have room for Jacobs in out best 22. Both Kruz and Warnok have shown they can play forward.

Trading walker without giving him a year playing centre/forward is also stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid!

I presume you meant Freo and I don't think Hampson cost us that game or that Jacobs would have won it for us. Our backline cost us that game and would have really struggled in the first final as well because that would have been against the Hawks.

I do however agree that Jacobs has gone past Hampson as a ruckman, my hope for Hampson is ultimately at FF if he can be taught to play there. Admit though that my hopes are beginning to waver on him and can't shake the feeling that we might have another Luke Livingstone on our list. Therefore I'm starting to think that he would be the first ruck I'd like out.

But Jacobs is out of contract so is the more likely to be traded, I just hope that the deal is win/win for either side.

As for Walker, I agree that he should be given a year in the forward line and would only like to see a trade for him that was heavily weighted in our favour

Over rated? This kid will be a star in a year or two IMO... He can also play both midfield and forward.. He would be the 1st I'd go after from the Crows..
That's pretty much what I mean. He's hard at it for sure but he doesn't get much of the ball, doesn't get involved in the play enough and has absolutely terrible disposal. Has potential to improve of course like all young players, but has done nothing to deserve the ridiculously high ratings that he gets around here.

yeah soz meant freo. Coffee not doing its job today.

Sandliands smashed us, Warnok had a decent game against him but Hampson really let us down with his body work. Jacobs, being the better ruckman with a bigger build would have provided a better contest. But you are right, I am drawing long straws...

cheers

AKAIK Sam has said he'd be happy to return to Adelaide for more opportunities..... the city, not the club. If the Crows didn't come to the table with suitable compensation then start discussions with Port. Other posters claim victorian clubs are interested too. Because he is out of contract, doesn't mean we don't get a just return.

The danger is if he nominates a club. Then it'll be more problematic.

In the earlier Freo game I think Jacobs played and was soundly beaten - it was the start / end of the stretch where he had a few quieter gamesand fell away before being dropped back to the 2's.

The problem with Hampson in the second game is that he couldnt find a way to jump at Sandilands (you might recall some ridiculous frees for him as well in the game) and Hampson looked all at sea.

Whilst Jacobs could have done a better job in that game, I dont think jacobs would have made a big difference.

Does this work
Walker + Jacobs > Adelaide
14 + Bock compo pick > Carlton
14 > Brisbane
Brennan > Carlton

LOSE;
Walker
Jacobs

GET;
Brennan
pick end of first round ( use in 2012. My thinking; We have pick 18 this year and a first round and Dylan Buckley next year so 2012 we have effectively 2 first round picks

Might be hard to get from Adelaide but who knows.
Thoughts?

Maybe Crows supporters need to stop over rating their players.
Maybe we all do.

Goes back to the point I was clumsily trying to make previously; Taylor Walker is basically *the* cult player of the Adelaide Crows, he's got massive potential as a footballer, but, that aside, his value to the Club and it's fans is immense.

The torch comment wasn't specifically if we traded him to Carlton for one of the players mentioned, it'd be if we traded him anywhere, for almost anyone.

You know what I mean Sin, there are certain players whose value to their Club can't be measured purely in current on-field output.

Yes, but it seems Dangerfield, Tippett, Davis, McKernan, Talia, Knights, Otten, Sloane, Henderson and anyone else who has played a game that wasn't crap are also cult players as will this pick 14 (really equal to 22 in a weakened draft) be. All of this in a team that missed the finals. You hide away in Adelaide, away from the rest of the league too much, you have no idea about the value of your players compared to other clubs players. You seem to think you have a list of 45 untouchables.

I think Adelaide probably feels hard done by there. Do we really want Brennan?

Maybe but we may be able to swap some other picks
they have 14,27 (compo), 30, 46
we have 18,34

so maybe we give 34 and get 46

Brennan...Yes
Forward
Back
Midfield
Ruck
Imagine he and Waite together
Don't imagine the combined brain fades!!

Jacobs is out of contract. I would be amazed is GC did not take a good long look at taking him as an uncontracted player. I imagine that we would not get much for him in terms if the compensation pick. Also, to suggest that the Crows would give anyone like Walker and Dangerfield up - guys they see as the future of their club - for players who spent half the year in the VFL is just fanciful.

Jacobs won't move to GC because there isn't a sunscreen with SPF 100. I doubt that Jacobs would screw us over after JR refused to leave via the PSD in 2006. Jacobs doesn't sound like the type of player who would do that after we gave him a chance in the rookie draft and developed him.

Hahaha - yeah, he would be the first player to wear zinc cream and a hat in an AFL match!!
You would like to think he would not screw us over, but it would be a fantastic opportunity for him. He would go up there as their #1 ruckman, on a long contract, and earning loads of money. Hard things for a 22 yo to disregard.

Just because Knights has re-signed doesn't mean he can't be traded!

He may have re-signed for the mere fact he couldn't see the possibility of him easily coming back to Melb and just decided he wasn't too unhappy in Adelaide so just took the offer. If he is traded the club that takes him will be expected to meet his contract obligations.

Like Henderson did in the Fev trade, he may see the Walker/Jacobs hunt be an opportunity to come back home he thought would be too difficult, and ask to be involved in a trade bringing Adelaide Walker/Jacobs and us Knights.

Remember contracts mean squat... Walker is still contracted to us for 2011 so no way in hell would the club just give him up easily (and if they do... it would mean he's not really rated much by the club any longer so good to get rid of him).

While this can be the case on occassions, when a player re-signs 3 weeks before trade period and states he loves the club.....nah.

Just want to get to trade period now, especially if 'you know who' wing the GF...
