You just know someone will read too much into that joke by Brock.

Jacobs has every right to size up his options if the club can't assure him of regular game time next season. Personally I think he can and will get to play the majority of next season in Navy Blue then move on as Kreuzer returns to the ruck

Right, so everyone knew that he was interested in leaving the Blues except his father than :o

Stop taking everything DOA says as gospel, he would know exactly what Walker's intentions are at the moment but he's not going to say it on a public forum and nor should he. All he does is play things down, I don't blame him either.

That may have been his son's situation at the time or up with it all given they probably don't share the same house. Don't care about the media. He also told us he'll be playing in the final and where well in advance. We knew he was lining up HFF earlier in the week.

He says now he's alot more at ease although no final decision been made but it's indicated he may well hang around.

We won't come on and post just to BS. You'd surely know that. He'd just say nothing. Posters love nothing more than telling someone "in the know" they're full of crap but that makes them feel good.

No offence but I'll take an inside word of a player than than that of a poster any day.

If you want to believe it that's up to you. Doesn't matter to anyone else. Believe what you want.

When you say "move on", do you mean move clubs? If that is the case, surely he has to move now when he is out of contract. I cannot imagine him staying if his future consists of one year.

If the club offered him a reasonable one-year deal with assured game-time (assuming form and injury allows) with a promise that he can be traded at the end of the period I don't see why not. I think Jacobs main aim is to play AFL football. He has friends at this club and likes the lifestyle in Melbourne (by reports). He is not 'homesick". It would be a perfectly reasonable deal for him to stay on an extra year and then be traded. I remain doubtful this will happen but I think it would be best for both Jacobs and Carlton if it did.

The only trade we should be looking at when trading Jacobs or Walker is for Mckernan. Doesnt look like he will get a regular game at the crows with Walker and Tippet as there main targets up forward. They need a ruckman, we need a forward.

Mckernan will be a better forward than Kruezer i believe, therefor it would be best for carlton if we traded Jacobs to Adelaide for Mckernan.

Say Jacobs, Walker & 2nd Round Pick -> Mckernan + 1st round pick i think would be very generous of Carlton and should get the deal done. This also would give us pick 14 or whateva which we can use to get a KPD such as Watson in the draft.

my thoughts in response to one of your members posting the DOA post on the crows board

firstly the post can be filtered in many ways

DOA says Walker is fine, which I'm sure he is, however he says that he is now at ease after meeting with Carlton, now you can read this either way.

1, is he at ease because he has been satisfied by Ratten that he has a key role in 2011, or

2. is he at ease because the club has agreed that they will work a trade to the crows if Walker is looking fr a fresh start / opportunity

In addition, DOA stated that he will not post rumours only outcomes, at this stage DOA has not posted an out of Tuesday's meeting which suggest that it is still an open item.

For me, DOA's post could be read in more than one way depending on how you filtered what he was saying

Saints are keen to chat about Jacobs next week. Gardiner is retiring and they have McEvoy only.
Sauce is getting some interest in Victoria now as well.
May prove difficult to keep him.

To get the clubs priority pick their priority must be filled in the process.
Another young ruckmen isn't a mid-fielder doesn't add pace or defensive pressure around ground and if he can't go with other ruckmen covering ground outside of the stoppages he becomes a liability in the modern game especially with interchange rules coming into play.
Essentially neither of these players are the value of a first rounder unless you are a team that likes to mismanage your list and I would hope adelaide have learned from having so many potential ruckmen in the squad the gamble and value they actually are.
It isn't generous to take a first rounder, lob them another 2nd round pick for a fringe player and a reserve tap ruck gambit for a first rounder and a player you rate above a very valued Kreuzer in the role the coach intends to play him.

I don't like it, but we'll take Goddard for Jacobs if that's their worst offer...

StKilda have nothing we want. The only thing they can do is push Jacobs price up.
They will struggle to put a quality trade together.

Suspect the bidding war will gain more momentum over the next few weeks. We're in a tricky situation, because we have to accommodate Jacob's wishes, as well as getting a trade deal that shafts the other club. Very delicate situation. I have no doubt Greg Swan's walking through the trade requirement scenarios at each possible club based on the picks they have plus possible trades. It'll take shape over the next few weeks. If we can't convince him to stay, hopefully we can steer him to club that'll cough up a generous supply of draft picks. The regional SA teams could be pushed to the sidelines if several top-8 teams get serious.

:)

I haven't gone through the whole thread, so forgive me if this has been mentioned. But what about Geelong?

They have a finished Ottens, an 'alleged' AFL ruckman in Mark Blake and Tom Hawkins FFS. Tell me they wouldn't welcome a young AFL-ready ruckman.

Nab one of the two Ablett compo picks from them.

methinks they might be a little stretched $wise notwithstanding Ablett staying or going.

Have heard a rumour that Geelong are interested in Hampson. I'm not sure where I heard that though.

A Geelong supporter said he wouldn't mind getting Jacobs.

Offered us Simon Hogan and/or Ryan Gamble for Sam Jacobs after I asked what they could give up.

Funny.

Given their list weaknesses and average age, it's unlikely that they would give up a quick ball carrier with skill, but I would enquire about Taylor Hunt if they chased Sam Jacobs.

Their first rounder would be enough to secure him...either #23 #24 i think?

It would also push other bidding teams into offering a better deal. This could work out very well for us....

Not disagreeing. DOA hasn't been definitive one way or the other. His son's made no final decision just more at ease with the club. Just means there's a better chance he might stay like maybe 50/50 rather than say 25/75 for example. His son's still checking what's out there, and not just at Adelaide, the latter according to Greg Swann on SEN yesterday. He also said he's still very open to playing at the Blues too. I'm guessing, going by that, the club has told him, being contracted, to look beyond just the Crows so if he does go we get the best deal available.

That's all probably a better way of putting it than before.

Article here yesterday saying how we were talking to Walker, that Carlton had told him they understood if he wanted to look elsewhere, but wanted to keep him.

Article finished with Swan (Swann?) stating how professional and how good to deal with he'd found the Crows; we apparently rang him directly before we even started talking to Walker, to let him know that we were keen.

Forgetting all the bullshit thrown back and forward between all of us, unless their is a wild-card who drives the 'price' up severely, you should be pretty confident that you'll get reasonable (not outlandish, not ripped off) value for Walker.

So Adelaide, Port, Geelong, St. Kilda are all interested. In Jacobs and reports of Hampson. This could turn out very well for the blues and realistically a 1st round pick/ good player is worth more than a reserve ruck, even if it means we don't have such good depth. Would be a shame to get rid of them and see them dominate though.

agree, I think you have sumed it up nicely :thumbsu:

This goes in line with that Paul Roos said about us a couple of years back.

We come to the trade table being fair and reasonable and don't play the games that other clubs do. He even labelled us as a great club to deal with.

I have no doubt that if Carlton is reasonable, the deal will get done. If they are like some of their supporters then the deal will not get done in a million years.

As I said, I am confident that the deal will get done with both parties behing happy with what they get and it won't be anywhere near as outlandish as some suggestions here.

LOL I love how you say "if they are like their supporters".. cause Adelaide fans have been fair and reasonable...

You can go ask Brisbane, West Coast, Fremantle, Melbourne etc if we are good to trade with...

It works like this... Carlton puts up a high price, Adelaide puts up a low price, and then they meet somewhere in the middle...

I doubt any deal will get done because Carlton want Walker to stay. Carlton will want something more than satisfactory for Walker if he's going to be traded which I don't think Adelaide will be willing to give.
