If the crows have offered pick 14 we should be pretty happy with that for Jacobs IMO

They haven't, and they won't.

Adelaide will deal with this fairly - trust me, you won't get taken for a ride. But there are certain things that Carlton have asked for that are way above what Jacobs should require. Namely, asking for pick 14 and asking for Daniel Talia.

Carlton also have to be careful because they're in the weaker position here. The Crows know all about having a player who wants to go home, and more often than not it isn't pretty. It's basically a "take it or leave it" situation. Thankfully you're talking to Adelaide, not guys like Collingwood or St. Kilda who would give you a much harder time at the trade table. But it still remains that Carlton don't have much power in the Jacobs negotiation.

The fact that you have, reportedly, declinded our compensation pick for Bock suggests to me that Carlton are getting themselves into a bad situation here. The least you'd want is Jacobs going into the PSD, and that's looking more likely than it did a week ago. Hopefully both clubs can sort something out long before that happens, since it would be an awful scenario for Carlton to be in.

Carlton supporters themselves also have to be aware that Carlton don't have much bargaining power here and simply can't ask for much. Jacobs, though certainly talented, remains largely unproven and has notable deficiencies in his game at this current stage. That alone is a sizeable argue point, but the fact he wants to go home really lessens the amount that Carlton can demand.

Pick 14 isn't untouchable - indeed we were willing to shop it around for key players that either declined our offer to come to South Australia or recently signed with their club (our main target being Ryan Griffen, which fell flat). But in the Jacobs trade it most definitely is, at least as a straight swap anyway. If the trade becomes more complicated than that, then it's possible 14 will be shopped around, but as I said before it's off the table as far as a straight swap goes. Jacobs isn't worth that much and both clubs know it, it's just that Carlton aren't approaching this trade in the right manner thus far.

Pretty sure that big Sammy has said if a fair and equitable deal is not reached by both clubs he will happily stay at the blues! if this is the case then the blues have quite a bit of power and can demand pick 14

Damien Barrett spoke on MMM today about the Jacobs situation.

Said Carlton have already knocked back the Bock compo pick and if pick #14 was not offered that things could get "ugly"......

Sounds like its all or nothing in this regard and Jacobs could end up in the PSD.

Stupid Carlton.

Oh well. They'll either cave, or we move on.

It'll be the former.

We've already knocked back the Bock pick and demanded pick 14 yet Rendall comes out and says we're being fair. Surely you can see what's going on.

One of the first things you should know about Rendell is that he often spins the truth in the media. More often than not leads them off the track. It's his game. Basically, don't take whatever he says too seriously.

Also keep in mind that, reportedly, Jacobs have been offered a considerable sum of money and has been virtually guaranteed the number-one ruck position. As far as opportutnity goes for a 22 year old, he is in an amazing position. Club loyalty (sadly) only goes so far, particularly for someone still so young.

Absolutely, the club have shown how keen they are and made a commitment to him. They will now have to get the deal across the line.

Oh, I get it now....

1. Your List Manager always lies. (BTW was that a job criteria?)

2. You can not only tell he's lying, but you also have the ability to read his mind to know what he's really demanding. Impressive. Is there some special body language sign that means "we're not trading pick 14"? A certain gesture maybe?

:)

All you Adelaide supporters say that you have all the bargaining power. But as far as I see it, two offers have been made. Firstly, your second rounder. Then the Bock pick.

This means that you offered us something crap and we rejected it. You then gave us a better offer which we rejected again. If this pattern continues, you will slowly grant us better deals until Swanny signs the papers that see pick 14 land at Carlton.

You are the ones bending over for Jacobs, not us.

The bolded bit is just your guess. It's not stated reality.

Try not to mix reality and what has actually been said. Someone on your board claiming Ratten told them in a whisper behind the shed doesn't count either.

"Pattern continues"?

Hilarious.

Some of your Bluebaggers have no clue how trading works.

Its funny how contradicting everything is about the Crowbots.

They offer him the number 1 ruck job, $1million over 3 years (front loaded probably means he'll get somewhere around 500k next year), yet don't think he's worth their pick 14. I wonder how Sammy would think about that and whether or not he feels that they truly believe in him if they don't think he's worth pick 14 in a weak draft...

If not as a straight swap - are you saying 14 may be possible if combined with other players/picks?

Eg. Carlton trade Jacobs and 18 for the Crows 14 and a fringe player/pick 28.

Swan is playing it perfectly as per usual. You can see the pressure build up each day at the Crows. Rendell's media releases are getting more and more flustered. Their supporters are getting more and more worried. It's a little chess game. The key is the seal the deal in such a way the crows won't feel they were hard done by i.e. throw in some face saving measures at the last minute.

:)

Exactly. They're painting themselves into a corner. If it continues at this rate they'll end up giving us pick 14 and their 2nd round pick for Jacobs. It's reminding me of the Voss trade already.

:)

Your spin is fantastic! I love the pisstakes. Keep going - you're a good 'un! :D

Stupid comment, how do you know that we have offered him the #1 ruck position, oh you read that on Bigfooty did you :o

anyone that knows any slightest bit about Neil Craig will know that he does not gift games, yes Jacobs may have been offered a 3 year deal however this does not translate to automatic selection

Jacobs will need to win the spot, it will not be gifted to him

Swan seems to be playing plenty of things beautifully, Walker, Griggs, Thorton and Jacobs all wont to leave, so pull your head out of the sand, there is something very very wrong at your your club

so what are we worried about

we wont offer pick 14 and it may force Sauce into the PSD and IMO we are a good chance to snare him through the PSD

and if we dont, we will push forward with developing Maric, McKernan, Moran (returning from injury) and James Craig (2009 selection).

however if he heads to the PSD, no matter what club he goes to you get nothing, NOTHING :D

no worries here :p

Sam Jacobs hears big-money Crow call

Jacobs would likely be Carlton's fourth ruckman again next year, but has been promised he would lead Adelaide's ruck department.

The Crows say he would lead their ruck department ahead of Ivan Maric, with back-up ruckman Jonathan Griffen set to return to Perth.

Sam Jacobs hears big-money Crow call

Jacobs would only need to show half the form he did this year to be your number one ruck. Luckily for you guys he's still improving at a rapid rate, lucky for us we'll get something very decent in return.

You would not choose to get flogged in the ruck every week, which is what would happen if you did that.

The Crows have shown how keen they are on Jacobs, made the commitment and now have to find a way to get the deal done.

Ive read the article and quite simply it is a case of easy jurnolism

the jurno does not quote anyone from the Crows, he does not have any information what so ever other than making an easy assumption.

trust me when I say, Jacobs would not have been gifted the #1 ruck role, I have no doubt that NC would of presented him the opportunity to lead our ruck division however source will still need to WIN the spot

You accused Tanks_Alot of only reading it on BigFooty, well it's been publicly stated in the media and neither Rendall or anyone else from the Crows have to come out and said otherwise.

He will only need one training session amongst that bunch of hacks you mentioned to WIN the spot.

Looking forward to what Swanny gets done, he was the smiling assassin when Brad Johnson was in nappies.

Take note Adelaide supporters.

1. As Swanny left WCE headqauters with judd he turned, smiled and suggested that they should grab Masten with the pick they got from us.

2. Brokered a Fair deal with Freo for Warnock when Melbourne had the box seat.

3. As he handed Fev over during a time he was under afl investigation for sexual harrassment and the brownlow debarcle he stopped smiled at Vossy and said be fair mate, Henderson plus pick 12 is probably paying unders for a 100 goal a year player.

This aint swannys first rodeo! Bring on Pick 14:D

Brokered a great deal fro McLean :D
