Lol no, Saturday twilight is good though
Personally hate it..........However, if we have to get that timeslot. Earlier in the year is best and Rd 1 is actually good. About Rds 1-3 are the only Saturday Afternoon/Twilight games I wouldn't complain about.

My preference

1. Saturday Night (Best there is)
2. Thursday Night (I know, I know, the arguments for Friday and against Thursday. ps. I have Fridays off, and have a 6am Start Saturday, so that's why I prefer TNF. Exact same reason 95% of people prefer Fridays)
3. Friday Night (End of the day, Night time is best)
4. Sunday Twilight (I understand why others hate, especially in our membership base. However, I dont mind twilight. However, I just have some stuff on Saturdays which make me despise it)
5. Sunday Afternoon (Saturdays just suck)
6. Saturday Afternoon (Clashes with community football, so I cant attend)
7. Saturday Twilight (Starts around 3/4 time of community football. Do you go? Dont you? attend good game - miss a half, attend bad game - ask why you didnt give away your ticket. miss good game - ask why you gave your ticket away, miss bad game - only way you win tbh - Games just suck for those involved in community football)

It would have been a perfect opportunity to give a non-Vic game a Friday night slot, given the Wednesday and Thursday games at the G.

Port v Lions

Crows v Freo
Maybe Adelaide vs Gold Coast didn't rate well when they tried it last year?

About time Carlton is gone from the season opener. Carlton deserve Sunday twilight. Freo at home a good round 1 for us.

If that is real, looks like a change in tradition.

Of course the GF replay starts off the season … when it’s two Melbourne teams!!!

Hopefully it becomes the new standard? Doubt it.

Looks like a decent round though.
I assume it's a result of the GF not being played in Melb. Should attract a lot of fans. But I agree regardless of who plays in a GF that game should kick start the season.

I think the round 1 fixture is a recognition that Melbourne has been one state hit hard with a lack of football.

Having all Victorian teams play in Victoria in round 1 provides an opportunity get those fans that have missed so much stadium football back theough the gates

People aren't complaining about who's playing who. They are complaining that all the prime time games that are viewed nationally on Channel 7 (big sponsorship dollars) are all Victorian sides. The fact that Stkilda v Collingwood gets the national broadcast when the option of Brisbane v Port two top 4 teams from last year or Sydney v GWS who's last game was an elimination final decided by 1 point are available is biased and unreasonable considering this is a national competition.

The issue isn't the AFL, the issue is the network here.
The current deal has 7 getting the best of all worlds.

They already have bums in seats outside of Victoria.
West Coast vs Gold Coast might be a foxtel game, but it's on 7 in Perth and SEQ
Adelaide vs Fremantle might be a foxtel game, but it's on 7 in Adelaide and Perth.
And Sydney vs Greater Western Sydney might be a foxtel game, but it's on 7 in Sydney.

The issue in all of this is 7. They have no need to put the non-victorian teams on Friday/Thursday Night as they get extra content this way.

The only way we will see a better deal for all 8 non-victorian clubs is if we screw over the fans by not giving them free access on tv.

If we ever get the day where 7 doesnt get to air all Adelaide/Port Adelaide games into Adelaide, West Coast/Fremantle games into Perth etc. Is the day we'll see more non-victorian contests aired on national television.

Lets take an example from last year
Rd 10 - 7 broadcasts Western Bulldogs vs St Kilda, foxtel broadcasts Fremantle vs Sydney.
However, Fremantle vs Sydney is aired on 7 into Perth and Sydney.
So now 7 has 4 fanbases who would just about all be watching what they're telecasting, rather than just 2. They get more eyes on screen.
There's no incentive for 7 to allow non-victorian teams into their games. They can just show the best Victorian games, while still picking up 1 or 2 extra games in other markets to get more bang for their buck.

So that's where we have to ask the question

1) 7 gets access to non-victorian content = worse timeslots, more Victorian centric games
2) 7 doesn't get access to non-victorian content = better timeslots for non-victorian teams, fairer coverage, but less access for fans on FTA tv.

I feel the change needs to get made. If fans can't watch for free at home it could draw more into games. I feel foxtel/kayo would pay more for content as they would get more viewership.

End of the day, the problem is the current tv deal. And while this TV deal and the access 7 gains out of non-victorian teams. Non-Victorian teams will be shafted. We'll be taken for granted.

5AA saying we are hosting Port in round 3 showdown on a Friday night
Just got a notification from the Crows app
Confirmed

This means Adelaide will be the first team in the AFL to have played EVERY single other team on a Friday Night (This includes Gold Coast which we played on Good Friday in 2021)

Surprised it isn't a Port home game.

Probably believe we're more likely to show up if it's our home game and keep it more competitive.
And they dont want to risk us sh*ting the bed and making an end of season game undesirable for primetime (who wants 3rd vs 13th FNF in Rd 20 for example)

Also in that article.
Travelling to Ballarat for ANZAC round 1.45pm Saturday

Edit: I know people will be pissed at that. But I look at it this way. There's 16 games that are moved due to deals (4x Launceston, 4x Hobart, 3x Canberra, 2x Ballarat, 1x Cairns, 1x Darwin, 1x Alice Springs) If all things were fair and equal Every club should travel to one of these games 8 times across 9 years. I know we've done our fair share historically. But I am always happy to do ONE of these games on the road. If we get a 2nd......Only way I'll tolerate it is if it's GWS in Canberra.
