Fair enough but both Lachie Murphy and Tyson Lever could quite reasonably be disappointed to not have been drafted in the rookie draft as both showed enough talent in the TAC Comp IMO. It's our injuries more than anything effecting our SANFL squad.
From the one game I watched live this year, Murphy looked really good. Seems like he had another excellent day today. What were the reasons he was overlooked? I'd imagine that there are worse players on some senior lists, let alone the rookie ones...

Size would have been the deciding factor I would say just like another very good "small" defender that went undrafted Reece Piper who has a "bazooka" kick on him, probably as good a kick as anyone in last year's draft.

Murphy is everywhere
I like Murphy and Lever jnr could play AFL. Need to draft a couple if Drfe
I think Gooch looks small because of his wide shoulders. According to club stats, he's taller than Dougie, Knight and only 1cm shorter than Mooch and Brown - I reckon his shoulders must be really wide to make him look like a pocket rocket midget.
He doesn't play upright, he's always sliced over and has the bent soccer legs

Goddamn, it still confuses me how Piper went undrafted. Has some serious pace, too.

Yeah, I think you're spot on with this.

He seems to get down very low and has a very low centre of gravity.

This is probably what allows him to be so balanced whilst twisting and turning in close.

He plays so low to the ground, I've seen him pick up the ball in one action running at speed a couple of times and it doesn't even look like hes had to bend over. This is an amazing skill, but it must put an awful lot of pressure on his back.

where is this guy playing now. Laird is nicknamed gnome and he goes more than alright. I like this kid and Murphy stood out amongst AFL listed players today. Gooch movement is definitely like Marc Murphy from Carlton

Is he accountable as a defender? We really need another specialist back pocket.

Never to play a game for us
I called this last year after seeing him the SANFL, he offers us absolute nothing at all.

He a bland, no frills, run of the mill, bog standard SANFL mid.

The only reason he may not be delisted at the end of the season would be because the Crows are trying to save face because he was part of the Dangerfield trade.

Given we didn't have a second or third round pick, you will just have to accept that Marty is talking out of his arse, again. It is becoming sad that he is being as obsessive as a spurned lover over the pick but lets not encourage him by quoting his post.
Oh I know Marty is talking out of his arse, hence my question. :)

Injuries aren't helping the quality of our SANFL team but we haven't helped ourselves by choosing to go two short (?) on the rookie list.
Meh, winning state league games isn't our priority.

Mind you, with how we draft rookies the likelihood is we wouldn't be much better seeing we prefer the young and raw types.

Ok i believe you guys but you must admit Wiggs disposal at SANFL level is very inconsistent. Touch and go if he will get another year at this stage.
I'd be very surprised if he did, as we seem to rate Poholke very highly.

I heard after the draft several VFL clubs were pursuing Reece but that he was going to suit up for the Dandenong Stingrays as an over ager with TAC Cup clubs being allowed to have a set number on their list each season....however to my knowledge hasn't made an appearance yet, could also be playing local footy when not playing for the Stingers. Edit : just checked he's on the Stringrays 2017 playing list but as to why he's not been sighted I couldn't tell you. Seems he's grown a bit too...looking at his birth date he was one of the younger players in last years draft.

Based on the language during the JLT, I think Thomo is carrying an injury that if he was to get surgery would see him miss 12 months. He looks really uncomfortable. I think he's playing through the injury knowing he will only play SANFL but can still offer more than a top up player and can be an onfield coach to the young midfielders.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't being carried to some extent last year. The player that took the field in the first 6 games got across the ground significantly better than the one who finished the year. You could almost see him grimacing as he struggled to get jogging after a stoppage towards the next one.

They will wait until an injury or a complete spudworthy performance requires his inclusion.
And then a couple of weeks to see if Thommo still has something to offer at the level. And let's face it, 17 touches and 6 tackles from 80% TOG purely as a mid will be plenty enough to keep him in the team, regardless of the fact that he can't run or impact contests outside of stoppages.

Proportionately, his bottom half (legs) is short.
