I'm at the enemy's house. Alberton oval. Dropped the wife off at the oval so thought id stay and watch a match. Port supporters are so invested in the magpies still. I cant believe how many they get here. Yelling like its an important match. Its there reserves ffs.

The problem is didn't Greenwood train the whole preseason with the midfield group? The club doesn't want to plug someone into the forward line who hasn't been training in that system.
I'm sure I remember hearing that everyone was training in multiple positions over preseason.

You can't talk flexibility all summer then be so rigid in the way you set up.

I think it's probably more the category b salary cap issue.

Sure Greenwood hasn't played senior football in a while but he played alot of junior football and was a great prospect playing as a midfielder. He therefore has a football brain and natural instincts.

Agree that he will defiitelty rise to the occasion. He's a competitor with great pride and just understands what it takes to be a professional.

I do feel our midfield rotation needs a guy like him.
Is it a significant hit if we upgrade him? I'd like to think we aren't that close to the cap that $100k is the difference between picking a player or not.

For those that have seen a lot of him, is there anything (other than lack of experience + our form) that would be keeping Greenwood out of the side? Is there obvious deficiencies that he has to work on?

Simple re draft Petrenko he was BOG in a team that towelled them up
And young Jake Comitogianni was 2nd best on for the Eagles who I thought was worth a rookie spot in last year's draft. Certainly finding a lot more pill than any of our current draftees, perhaps because he's playing in a better team, but still...

I don't think they are a better team, they play to win where Adelaide plays to develop it can make a difference to a lot of things like you highlighted a 18 year old got second best Glenelg have 16 and 17 year olds playing league as well as 18 year olds that weren't good enough to be drafted.

Seems like there's a few folks we could have taken as rookies ...
Maybe we drafted the wrong guys...;)

Lachlan Murphy showing more than all of our draftees currently and he certainly had a stellar year for the Northern Knights in the TAC Comp last year, only thing I can see as to why someone didn't give him a shot on a rookie list would be his lack of size/height as his skills set has been top shelf on the occasions I saw him play. Both times I saw the Knights play Murphy and Signorello along with Lipinski were the clear stand outs in their team.

What is wrong with supporting your team?
Really.

Absolutely nothing. Sorry I am just venting. Bit jealous. Hate the fact that we cant generate that same kind of support in the SANFL. I wish we were in the VFL or there was an AFL reserves with home games at AAMI.

Different demographic, port have a traditional amount of supporters a lot actually won't barrack for the Power they aren't interested they see them as a seperate club, as does Chazzawazza as he barracks for Sturt as I do for Glenelg and Elite is a die hard Norwood supporter none of us will put a crows reserves in front of our teams we grew up with we aren't flip flops, we are loyal supporters.

I disagree with you on Port supporters there was once a time I would go to Glenelg oval and we were severely out numbered I went to the first game of the year against port and good crowd with a scattering of port supporters and a huge bay supporter base, it was a Friday night and the power weren't playing, the wheel has turned

Looks even worse this year if possible. He's one I was expecting to step up in the middle with the loss of guys like CEY and Grigg. Hasn't happened.

Greenwood is a tremedous physical specimen. (nod to Don Scott and Rob Walls). Hopefully he gets a go soon. I think Wigg can be really damagin in AFL as he has a very good kick. In the last quarter Thomson marked on half back in heaps of space and had players running past in all directions screaming for the ball, but didn't pass him. He took about 15 seconds to get rid of it and by which time the whole Eagles team was back in defence and strucutred up. It really showed how much the game has passed him by and so quickly. I would now doubt whether a goodbye game is even worth risking.:(

Would definitely had played for Geelong if he'd remained there last year. Was a very strong word on that. Plus Gary Buckenara rated him a 2nd rounder as well. We did very well to get him in the Danger deal.

To me there's no doubt he can play a role as a midfielder, but is he a good enough forward to play there predominantly ??

Only one way to find out
From what I've seen Greenwood appears pretty handy up forward. Personally what I'd be looking at is reducing Hamptons midfield minutes, making him more of a flanker who plays some midfield minutes, with Greenwood becoming more of a midfielder who plays some forward minutes. I really like the pace, flare and tackling ability Hampton brings to the side, I just don't think he's finding enough of the pill at present to justify an essentially fulltime mid spot.

I'm a massive fan of Greenwood and what he brings to the table and think we need to start actually getting some games into him.

I don't mind this at all. If they spend near equal amounts of time on the ball, or 70/30 Greenwood/Hampton, we become more dynamic and can change who is in the guts depending in what is required at the time

I'd be keen to see him play the Mackay role and give Greenwood a decent spot on the inside rotation. But, knowing our coaching group, Hampton's only crack will be as an inside mid and that'll be that. If he'd had 100 games with us, then we'd try him everywhere to see if there's a spot that he's barely passable at. But with only a handful of games at our club, it's basically succeed at the one role we give you a crack at or play 2's.

Gore has been VERY disappointing. Had a good start to last year and was slightly unlucky not to play a game or 2 early on.

Now he isn't even having the impact he had as a 17yo for Sturt
I'm not sure where he is playing now but it might worth giving him a shot down back, apparently has some pace and can tackle well, it'd be nice to have another small defender.
