Crows make three changes

http://www.afc.com.au/Default.aspx?tabid=4417&newsId=48502

Adelaide has made three changes to its line-up for Saturday night’s Showdown, recalling Richard Douglas, Robert Shirley and Jason Porplyzia.

Brent Reilly (corked glute) was unable to prove his fitness on Thursday morning while Ben Rutten (knee/calf) will miss his third consecutive match.

Douglas and Shirley were squeezed out the Crows side last week while Porplyzia kicked four goals for SANFL club West Adelaide after returning from two weeks out with a hamstring strain.

Out of the side are Michael Doughty, Reilly and Bryce Campbell, who made his AFL debut against Essendon.

Adelaide’s line-up for the Showdown will include six players who have played under 50 AFL games - Nick Gill (one game), Chris Knights (29), Nathan van Berlo (47), Porplyzia (20), Ivan Maric (12), and Douglas (13).

B: Graham Johncock, Scott Stevens, Kris Massie

HB: Andrew McLeod, Nathan Bock, Jason Torney

C: Martin Mattner, Simon Goodwin, Nathan van Berlo

HF: Brett Burton, Ian Perrie, Chris Knights

F: Scott Welsh, Ken McGregor, Nick Gill

R: Ben Hudson, Tyson Edwards, Scott Thompson

Int: Robert Shirley, Ivan Maric, Richard Douglas, Jason Porplyzia

Emerg: Michael Doughty, Luke Jericho, Bryce Campbell

In: Douglas, Porplyzia, Shirley

Out: Reilly (glute), Doughty, Campbell

1. Campbell dropped, after one game.

2. Shirley back in, yes, he will guide us to our next premiership.

3. Douglas back after an average SANFL game last week.

4. WHERE THE FREAKING HECK IS PFEIFFER?

5. Pfeiffer isn't even an emergency.

6. Jericho is an emergency.

Hehehe, watch Drummond go nuts!:p

Good to see Douglas and Porplyzia back, bit befuddled at what Shirley was able to prove to get a game unless NC just wanted more midfield experience in the side with Reilly and Dogga coming out. Seems a bit harsh to drop Campbell

Good looking lineup this week. Bryce didn't do much and with so many guys coming back he relaly needed to do more against the Bombers :thumbsu:

Glad to have Shirley back. Porps > Pfeiff in the SANFL last week, was amazing with 30 dispsosals and 4 goals :thumbsu: Happy to have Dougie back on board as well :)

Yay for Douglas :)

Yay for Doughty's golden ticket being taken back :thumbsu:

Shirley obviously being brought back in to tag someone.

Mattner needs a goodun' this week to stay in the team.

Drummond, talk about an overreaction

I'm with you on Campbell. It seems pointless bringing him in for one game just to then shunt him back to the 2s. Douglas was pretty good for the Bays though.

I am pretty pissed off that Darren Pfeifer has missed the cut this week and hasn’t been rewarded with a call up to the AFL. His form has been very good for the last 4 or 5 weeks in the SANFL and he may have been a more worthy player to get a game over Richard Douglas this week. .

How has Robert Shirley retained his place ion the side with our playing any SANFL games? Wasn’t he dropped for the Essendon game but didn’t play for the WWT?

A bit of bad news for Michael Doughty to be dropped but at least Neil Craig and the match committee are now starting to send messages that poor form will not be tolerated.

Porplyzia is gun, Douglas will be a very good player next year and Robert Shirley is a token selection.

But in all seriousness we can hardly have Pfeiffer, Campbell, Douglas, Porplyzia all in the same team in a game as important as a showdown. The match committee chose the blokes who they think can do the job best and looking at the experience and talent of the players i can see why they're doing it.

People need to calm down, i'm betting we'll see Pfeiffer and Meesen and more of Campbell before the end of the season.

There's some odd decisions here...but I don't need to tell anyone which one I think is the best.

Having said that, he will be back next week. Bookmark it.

Not sure why Douglas was picked ahead of Campbell & Pfeiffer though.

These guys are probably all going to be rotated through the rest of the year.

Douglas was good last week, 20 possesions, 1 goal and his work in close was very impressive.

Shirley swapped for Doughty.

Porplyzia had to come in.

Not sure why Douglas was picked ahead of Campbell & Pfeiffer though.

Campbell was no better than Douggie had been playing last week.

Pfeiffer probably should've come in before both, but he'll get his chance.

Oh yes, because if we don't we're definitely going to win!

Shirley was finally dropped against Essendon, didn't play at all last week, and yet he's straight back in.

Pfeiffer was BOG for the Redlegs, for the 3rd conseuctive week, and yet it's Douglas who comes back in after an average/good game for Glenelg after he was only out for 1 week?

:D at these changes. :thumbsd:

This year has been disappointing from the point of view of our conservatism at the selection table.

We have played safe all year.

We have refused to take risks and as a result lost an opportunity to see who can play or who cannot. WE have taken th eeasy option and taken no risks.

Earlier in the year some of this was due to injury - but now I am concerned - we need some youth to give us some energy which has been lacking for much of the season.

Porps - good move.
Shirley - retrograde step in my view - his best days may be behind him. Obviusly brought back for his expereince.
Douglas - good move

Doughty out - good move. He has lost some of his pace and his deterioration will only increase in the following years. My own view is that he could be on the exit list. At 181cm and unable to mark one on one and increasingly unable to break free from contested situations his strenghts are being outweighed by his negatives.

Reilly - injured

Campbell - would have liked to see him retained for at least another week.

I have to agree with Drummond - Pfeiffer needed to be an emergency.

What about the Griff? I was very disappointed with Huddo last week. He has lost his leap. Could have been time for a recall or at least the interchange bench.

People can argue with my point of view, but if you think we are a chance this year you have not been watching the way we play and the personnel we have on the field.

We need to reenergise this side and make some statements about what is acceptable and what is not.

Strange selections.

They drop Douglas and Shirley for one week, Shirley didn't even get a chance to play last weekend, and they bring them both back in. Campbell is given one game and then dropped.

All I can gather from this is Shirley was rested last week and wasn't dropped for performance and they don't rate Campbell.
