It's definitely hard to imagine both McKernan AND the big-name mids all being gone by pick 10. It's more than a safe bet that Rich, Natanui, Watts, Vickey and Hurley are all gone by our pick. Could Hartlett, Sidebottom, McKernan and Ziebell (I'm assuming they rate Ziebell) all go before our pick? I mean, of course they could, I've listed nine players. But surely ONE of them would slide

I worry that he might not fit into the Neil Craig ethos. You'd know more than me though. People on BF call him "lazy" but that seems like an armchair accusation to me, I'm not sure how you even adjudicate that from watching juniors form.

Anyone heard any whispers that the Crows are interested in him?

I'd certainly be excited to have him, we've needed a player like him for a long time.

Davis appears to be supremely underrated on Bigfooty. He's been Injured pretty much most of this year and missed them U18 carnival as well I think? Or he played only one game or so. There were one or two rumours on the D+T board that we'd pick Davis at 10 earlier this year and that Freo were also very interested (probably with their 2nd pick). Yarren please. Please. We need this guy, play off a HFF, kick some miracle goals then after he's built up his fitness move him into our midfield.

Cornelius - I just don't rate him. He's got a slender body and while he does use it well, I don't think it'll cut it at AFL level. It's not like he's got the sort of frame to be able to really bulk up as well. I think he'll always be fairly slight. His hands are fantastic, but I think that's a strength that will be neutralised by his small frame. He was always talked up based on his Div 2 performances, but it has to be said that he had a quiet carnival, so it says to me that he's a bit of a flat track bully. He wasn't exactly getting top delivery, but I reckon he built a reputation on dominating weaker sides.

It's not what you see on the TV coverage though, because it's mostly off camera. I honestly had a hard time splitting him and Naitanui a couple of weeks ago when I was finalising the order of my Top 10.

What I mean is that the pair of them had the ability to look like they were running in slow motion while everyone else was busting their gut and yet they were two of the hardest working players out on the field.

Excellent comparison. Especially Andrew McLeod! He often copped it a few years ago for not trying hard (but would be chucking his guts up at quarter time).

Am i the only one who thinks we will be making a huge mistake if we don't draft a KPP with our first pick. The top end KPP's in this draft are very very good and Rendell rates the KPP's in this draft as teh best he has ever seen. Going by last year it seems clear that when drafting Rendell looks at the actual positional strengths of the draft. Last year there weren't too many good KPP so we went mostly mids, and so far seems to have paid off pretty well for us.

The one area where we lack depth is defeniately our KPP stocks where we really don't have anyone yet who will be able to dominate at FF/CHF. I know we have Tippett who looks really good, and Walker i see more as a 3rd tall at AFL level, so what we really lack is a gun CHF, Sellar could potentially be that saviour but i just can't see him holding down a CHF position for some reason, YET. Then there is Gill, Hentschel and Burton, The latter two are going to be coming off knee recos with Hentschel still having a lot of question marks over him, whereas Burton won't be here past 2010 and Gill is there until we find that CHF.

Yes, there is no guarantee that taking a high potential KPP will work out, and there is perhaps less risk with a midfielder, but I do know that we need at least one and probably two added to this squad. I also know that you never end up with a gun KPF if you don't draft any! The chances of getting a top quality KPF don't increase as you get down to the latter rounds either.

As much as its commonsense to take the best available in the early rounds, we need a KPF and I think if we draft two one at least might work out, so it would make sense to go for the best available KPF in rounds one or two. That is of course if all of the good prospects aren't gone by pick 28, which would mean plenty of midfielders or perhaps small/medium forwards might still be there.

(Two good KPF's would also give some insurance in case Sellar doesn't come on and Tippett is offered a contract we can't match by GC17 in a couple of years time.

I'm with you VC, don't think he'd become any more than a third tall at AFL and he even acknowledged that himself in his short comment about his playing style. He is a forward who has strong hands but to me he doesn't have the strength nor the pace to be a key target in the forward line. His fitness is less than average right now, just can't see what all the hype is with this fella TBH, I think he might go late second at best but we'll see.

Yes he really is a gun and will most likely be gone by pick 10. He had a fantastic U18 carnival - brilliant run with player who can get his own possessions in the process. Also one of the best overall draft camps you will ever see. Both an athlete and a footballer. I would be thrilled if we could get him at 10.

I agree. I becomes even more evident when you look at the Official Bigfooty Phantom draft.

Before any DH's make a comment - I understand it is only a phantom draft done by fans but they are all informed and and does give you some idea on how things may pan out.

What it does make really clear is that by pick 28 the cream of the KPP's is well and truely gone.

I keep going back and forth every day thinking will we go KP or mid with pick 10 but I'm now thinking we probably have only 2 mids in our top 10. Unless these slide we will go KP. We have to or we would have lost our chance by pick 28.

Unless the club is 100% sure the mid we choose at pick 10 will be a superstar, we will go KP at pick 10.

I believe that the Crows should have taken Ebert with their first pick last year, and should go with a KP Forward with their first pick. A local boy would be the best bet.

Oh and btw, local boys havn't been anymore successful with us as first round picks than interstaters, our last 2 were Darren Pfeiffer and James Sellar, Pfeiffer's now been delisted by 2 clubs and whilst I still have high hopes for Jimmy, he's still playing a lot of his footy in the Glenelg ressies.

obviously he will get better as he gets older, smarter and stronger at the game. he's probably no way near his peak...
but i'm not one of those still wishing we'd picked Ebert...i think that feeling sorta died out a day after last year's draft. Danger can be just as good if not better and has the pace the Crows have been lacking. i also love his attack on the ball in those 2 games he played...and after last year's draft, i'm sure a lot of fans would be backing the recruiting team to make the right decisions, whoever that may be.

i'm hoping for a slide of a big name, but if none slide, and the team decide to pick up Phil Davis or McKernan, and overlook Trengove, then so be it.

I would certainly be happy to have him. But it does get on my nerves when I hear people on the radio say stuff like "the Crows obviously wish they'd picked up Ebert after the year he had, whereas Dangerfield only played two games". Completely ignoring the whole study aspect, the fact that the Crows usually wait longer before debuting youngsters, Ebert being further along in his development, etc.


Still. No point getting worked up about it I guess.
