List Mgmt. Crows Next Generation Academy

By the time we can draft him he would have played footy for about 7 or 8 years.

He will hardly be new to the game.

Isn't this set up a bit racist?

All well and good we may benefit from it, but the reality is he is no different to any Anglo or European background kid. Apart from the colour of his skin and the particular country he was born.

They poached this kid from soccer along with a few others, If you went to Crows vs Geelong game he played in the Next Generation Academy Talent Squad vs the SANFL Diversity Squad. Crows won easily, believe he was #10, one of the tallest players but playing as a Midfielder. and one of the best on ground. Also another intresting player in Kudzi Motsi, played as one of the rucks, Will get more of an idea next year when they start to pop up in Central under age teams.
Also just for interest Tyrone Milera played as a forward often one out. (Wayne's Brother)
But the one big advantage these kids have is they will be in the Crows system for 3-4 years before they hit draft age,

The last part is kind if my point.

These kids are not really new to the game, ie three or four years in their teens with our club. The article says this 15 year old lad has played for four years. They have as much exposure to Aussie Rules as any other kid.

But purely due to their "ethnicity" they are eligible to be drafted by us.

This is an area the SANFL clubs should be growing the game through junior pathways and working with schools.

From a pure selfish Crows supporter point of view it is great. But there is probably a better way to nurture and develop these guys and include a broader group. That is a role a decent junior system, in a football state, should have.

Let's not forget the only reason the two NSW and Queensland clubs have academies is because junior development of our game is virtually non existent in those states outside of the four AFL club systems.

The truth is if the AFL did not introduce this system this kid would not have gotten a look in the SANFL as he would have been playing with his mates
The SANFL does not have a system that looks out for these kids nor does it have people willing to talk to them.
This kid was good enough for state under 16, you have to ask the question why he was not in the squad, answer simple nobody knew he played the game nobody look at him.
Will he make the under 18 next year maybe, but only because of his involvement in the Crows system The one thing that for some reason stops kids from alternate backgrounds from getting anywhere in the SANFL he has never been in the state system. And it is very rare a kid who has not gotten into the system to play State under 16 and 18. s**t it hard for a kid from the north to play state full stop unless they play for a club that opt out northern zone and plays in the north eastern leagues. which several junior clubs have.
The way the SANFL run the juniors is crap they do not develop. Pet hate of mine.

Also Check out who doing the heavy lifting in the APY lands and it's not the SANFL.

Thats not true. There are more registered AFL players in NSW and Qld than there is in SA, and more development money gets spent in those states than SA.
Last year there was more players taken from Qld than SA last year in the draft, and only one less from NSW. The Crows drafted more players from NSW than they did from SA, and more players from Qld than they did from SA.

Sorry the "is" should have been a "was".

The Academies and the AFL involvement is the reason for the growth in the game there.

Meanwhile here in SA.....

The fact we need academies in this state is an indictment on how poor the SANFL treat junior footy.

Not one Norwood player? Wow

Not one Norwood player? Wow
Players selected in this squad, and other NGA Development Programs, are recommended by the four SANFL clubs which are aligned to the Crows under the NGA concept - being Central District, Sturt, Glenelg and North Adelaide.
I take it that means Port are aligned with Norwood.
