No help: Stone the Crows
By DEAN LAWSON

A SNUB from a prominent football club has failed to deter a Horsham council push to develop Horsham City Oval to a standard suitable for AFL practice games.
Horsham Mayor Cr Gary Bird said a knock-back from Adelaide Crows to provide in- principle support for the plan was disappointing but irrelevant.
He said he was determined the oval would again have the claim as the best sports reserve in the region.
"I want to be able to see an annual Horsham Anzac game under lights in 2009 as well as an AFL practice match," he said.
"And the Adelaide Crows? Well they might be the pride of SA at the moment but they're the pride of nothing in my book," he said.
"We're disappointed. All we wanted was in-principle support, a simple process. We don't want them to send us any money."
Adelaide Crows chief executive Steven Trigg responded to a Horsham Rural City Council letter asking for in-principle support in its efforts to attract AFL grant money.
"Unfortunately we're not in a position to help, given our charter as an AFL club in SA is to support, where possible, such needs in a local sense," he wrote.
Horsham councillor Alan Pignataro asked at the council's latest meeting whether the Crows might have misunderstood the original request.
"Have they simply misread it?" he asked.
Cr Bird: "I wouldn't think so."
Cr Bird said later that the response contradicted a broad AFL promotion of grass-roots football.
"There are a lot of South Australians who now live in Horsham. Really, the Crows lost the plot a bit," he said.
"They say they can only support their local clubs. Well if that's the case they can stop plucking kids out of Victoria when it comes to the national draft.
"I think they might have to rethink the message they're sending across the border.
"We've been in a long drought and a lot of kids simply don't have the opportunity to go to Melbourne or Adelaide to watch their idols."
Cr Bird said responses from other clubs and organisations had been encouraging.
"Port Adelaide Football Club has been excellent and supported us in all our endeavours."
The AFL will provide $250,000 to successful applicants after a project-assessment process. Horsham is building a case as part of the process which involves garnering support.

Sooky la la!
Of course Port Adelaide Power Football Club have been "excellent and supported them in all our endeavours; they need members.

Cr Bird needs to be reminded that Victorias has been raping and pillaging the cream of SA's football talent for years....well before it became a national game.

It is national isnt it?:p

So FO you squeezer!

THEY may be the self-proclaimed "pride of South Australia" but there's no disputing they're mighty, those Adelaide Crows.

Yesterday the Crows Foundation donated $5000 to the Hudson Maher Foundation which financially supports families of children needing to travel interstate for bone marrow transplants.

"It was fantastic of them," said 36ers captain Brett Maher, whose wife Tanya administers the Hudson Maher Foundation.

"The Crows Foundation supports a number of charities and Tanya wrote to them, applying for their support.

"They were more than happy to assist."

Crows superstar Andrew McLeod was on hand yesterday at the Women's and Children's Hospital, meeting two previous Foundation recipients, Jamie Dorsett, 6, and Alan Pearson, 14.

"They're two of the kids who have been helped by the program," Maher said.

:thumbsu::thumbsu: Nice work Crows.

Victorian country towns should be looking for Victorian teams.

Anyway, we hardly ever play practice matches, in recent history weve been playing NAB cup.
