Ulimate worth to the team. So for walker that would be to kick goals or set them up right? 1 Goal, 1 Goal Assist and 2 Goal Contributions in the past 2 games combined. 6 inside Fiftys tho.

But at his best, he is brilliant!

Against Carlton he was involved in 8 goals, 4 himself and 4 contributions. There is no argument that he can be great when he is on, but when he is off he doesnt work hard enough to win the ball.

Linsay Thomas from the Kangas is a brilliant example. 2 years ago he was a flashy forward who went hot and cold (like tex) and now he is that as well but he is consistantly a pressure machine.

Lindsay Thomas is not the same type of play as Walker though.

Walker is not your mosquito fleet pressure player, Thomas is.

Who's our leading goalkicker at the moment?
Walker.. but he's only added 1 goal to his total in the last 2 weeks. He didn't even work hard enough to have a single shot on goal last Sunday.

Tippett is averaging more goals per game, with 11 goals from 5 games to Walker's 13 from 6. Unlike Walker, he's coming into some good form with 7.4 to Tex's 1.2 in the last 2 weeks.

Ask this question again next week and I doubt that the answer will be Tex.

Walker is a lead up player who is really good at crumbing, walker may be taller but that doesnt mean he can't chase!

That is why i said at his best he is brilliant, but for 2 weeks he has been far from his best. Even in a winning game against the saints he had a downer. Last week can be excused because the rest of the players were crappy.

The question is - will it be excused?

I guess we'll find out in a few hours.

Nobody here's underrating the value of hard work.

Plenty here are underrating the value of smart work.

I disagree. A lot of people think he shouldnt be dropped simply because he is supremely talented. Bernie Vince is also very talented, not as talented as Taylor, but he has been dropped for not working hard enough when he doesnt have the ball.

That is what I would like to see, gut running Travis Cloke and Riewoldt style.

What's the difference? Right now he's not kicking AFL goals for Adelaide either.

So a 21 year old key forward has a couple of bad weeks in a row and all is lost? Especially since in 1 of those games the ball barely came forward of centre and the entire team was crap.

The week before the saints game he kicked 4 against Carlton.

Hendo has played 6 poor games in a row and holds his spot at least until now. Stevens was allowed a month of playing ordinary football last year after his concussion to start showing some form. Burton's "solid" form was rewarded with selection for weeks last year. Why does Tex only get 2 weeks of poor form before he gets dropped?

I for one hope not, i think he is one player that could have a field day against the gold coast.

Tippett is a better comparison to these guys because of his marking, Tex doesnt do a lot of this.

.

This might be why they drop him. So he doesn't "get ahead of himself."

AFC logic at its earth shattering best.

If he's jipped out of the easy 6 goals and favourable stats every other forward gets when playing the GC, he has a legitimate case to leave the club. If he didn't already.

I don't have an aversion to talented players. I have an aversion to lazy players - and Tex is one of the laziest players we've had on our list in a very long time.

Once again, this is your perception, not fact.

If he was lazy, he wouldn't get to that point - being an AFL footballer. If he was lazy, he wouldn't have the perception of being one of the fittest guys in the team, if he was lazy, why didn't they ship him off years ago.

He is a scapegoat because he doesn't fit the mold of what Neil Craig is looking form in an athlete.

Totally disagree.

Tex needs to, that is his issue IMO. Tippett is over 200cm and you can drop it on his head and he will be hard to stop. Walker needs to lead, not just from the goal square, but get himself involved in games up the ground, by gut running....
And dont forget, Tex reads the play as good as anyone, it is only lazyness stopping him from taking 5 or 6 extra marks a game up the ground.

T Cloke - averages - first three seasons (up to 21 years of age)
55 matches
12.4 disposals
5.8 marks
1.0 goals
1.5 tackles

N Riewoldt - averages - first three seasons (up to 21 years of age)
50 matches
14.5 disposals
7.5 marks
1.1 goals
1.2 tackles

T Walker - career stats
38 matches
10.1 disposals
4.4 marks
1.9 goals
1.5 tackles

I'm not sure what we're expecting to see from Tex to be honest. He hasn't quite been able to generate the same number of marks/possessions as Riewoldt did, who was the number one pick and future captain and superstar.

Ok.

Needs to work on his defensive game more, Carl. Needs to be more like Paul Northeast, less like Darren Jarman. We are not to have anybody talented in our squad. They must be workmanlike and mediocre at all times.

Just imagine Tex in a good team and this conversation would be over, he would be willing to work harder because he loves to kick goals. At the moment we are starving him of that.

All is not lost, he just needs a kick in the arse to remind him about what is and is not acceptable for an Adelaide player. He'll be back in a week or two, once he proves that he's willing to perform to the team's mandatory standards as an absolute minimum.

If it's good enough for Vince, why is it not good enough for Walker? Heck, even Johncock has found himself in the SANFL in recent years as a result of failing to achieve minimum standards. What's so special about Walker that he deserves to be treated any differently?

Do you really think that any other coach would tolerate his laziness & refusal to put his body on the line for his team? I'm damn sure Mick Malthouse wouldn't.

Are you seriously trying to defend his efforts against St Kilda and Melbourne?

Nobody, but nobody, is defending Henderson. If Walker is dropped, then Henderson MUST go as well. If Henderson is named in the team this evening then I'll be screaming as loudly as anyone else.

What a load of garbage. Neil Craig would love for Tex to be all he can be - an outrageously talented goal scoring machine. But if Tex refuses to perform to even the most basic AFL standard then what other option do the selectors have?

Do you think Tex's antics would be tolerated at any other club? Do you honestly think Mick Malthouse would put up with it? Seriously?

Not ok. The game has changed Carl. I am sure if you drag out stats from when Wayne Carey was under 21 you will find the same. Are you saying Taylor isnt capable of reading the play? No way. Are you saying that he is too young to lead? Would you not like to see Taylor lead up the ground and get himself involved in the play when we all know he can. I will give you the hot tip, IF, Taylor reaches his potential ( which will most likely be in GSW colours) I bet it is when he adds this string to his bow.

In 20 years if we look just at stats people will be asking who was Kepler Bradley?

You are dead right and this is the way things should occur. I have no problem with this, if only it happened to a few more players.

However, the one key word is 'relationship'. How would his actions and defensive performances be if his relationship with Neil Craig was a positive relationship. Their are way to many stories going around to suggest they have anything but a negative one.

He clearly doesn't listen to him, he's not motivated by his instructions. This is where his actions would be very different with a different coach. So you are correct, no other coach would or should tolerate his laziness (if he is) but would he still be lazy with a different coach?

Was he lazy at Norwood with Trevor Hill or Nathan Bassett?

Are you seriously trying to defend his efforts against St Kilda and Melbourne?

This has to happen for any club equality to be in place. If not, TW is a scapegoat.
