Yes pure speculation, but he has put off contract talks until the end of June at least. He wont be playing in June so why the delay? Maybe hes waiting to see what happens with Craig?

Based on his season, we wont offer him the big bucks. Based on being able to throw money around, GWS can.

What would you do?

someone asked me 'if you were taylor walker's dad and he said to you "dad, i really love the crows, always have and my hearts here, but GWS are offering me $2Mil extra over a few years. what do you think i should do?", what would your advice be'

well i would say 'son, you never know what the future holds, you might get a career cripling injury... think about your future. $2Mil is $2Mil.'

i think most dad's would advise their kids to think of the future right? i mean, its an extra gold coast penthouse isnt it?

But why would GWS throw big money at him? He's never done anything to justify it.

He's kidding himself if he thinks that any other AFL coach would tolerate his lack of work ethic on the field. NC has given him a great run and many opportunities. I can't see Sheedy being as tolerant of Walker's antics as Craig has been. Note the comments about MM's likely attitude towards Walker in the "Crows that could get a game in Collingwoods 22" thread.

If Walker does go to GWS, then I think it's a decision that he'll come to regret. I really do expect him to spend a lot of time playing here in Canberra - and not only when the witches hats' seniors are playing their 3 home games here each year.

Think his Dad would be sayn look at where you are and would you like living in Sydney and how much would you sacrifice in success if you left adelaide ? Money aint everythn but happinness is !

But not everyone shares the same opinion on Walker as you. Maybe the GWS recognise his age, what he has achieved so far and his potential. Maybe they recognise that as the key forward with the ball delivered to him properly he has the potential to kick a lot of goals.

Also consider what their options are, maybe he is their only real chance for a key forward signing, Gold Coast did okay with their signings but how many were forwards?

Have you seen any games this year, there is no success coming in Adelaide, not until there are big big changes. Without this we are 5 years + away from contending again if not more given the weakend draft over the next 2 years. The success card has unfortunately no longer has any pull in Adelaide

still, assuming GWS does drop a truck load of cash on the table in front of him... would he be mad not to take it?

Hi Taylor

I would agree with your dad, money is a huge factor and not many people get the opportunity to lock away million dollar contracts.

However, while SA football is floundering at the moment, it will remain and it will be strong again. You can stay here and be a hero to hundreds of thousands of supporters, or you can go to GWS and be that guy in that team that has 12,000 members. Will GWS even exist when the AFL tells it to stand on it's own two feet without assistance?

I don't know if you actually have a problem with Neil Craig or not, but if you do then know this - you will outlast him at this club. Sure in a couple of years you might have to endure the occasional awkward hello as you pass by the janitor's closet where they keep him, but if you go to GWS, imagine having to front up to Mark Williams every day? Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

So...the choice is yours. You can go to GWS and get awesome money but fade into football insignificance, or you can stay here on good money, become a legend of the club, and maybe experience the ultimate glory along the way.

PS: ignore Vader and birdmanptr, they simply don't like you.

So what compensation picks will Crows get for Walker ? a 2nd rounder ? he really hasn't done much in regards to winning club awards or league awards so anything earlier than a 2nd round draft pick is just a joke.

when Bock signed with Gold coast, he was dumped from the playing list, never to play again last season, will this also happen with Walker ?

If we don't see him in the lineup anytime soon then it is time to say bye bye. My guess is that Adelaide will play the injured card, don't think he is injured though. But by saying he is injured, it will give the Crows 3-4 weeks to think up of something else

Tier 4 compensation at best - which is an end of 2nd round draft pick.

Probably. Things would be different if we were in contention for the finals, but why put games into a player if your team has nothing to benefit by doing so?

He's out with a knee injury for the next 4-5 weeks anway. What happens after that will be very telling.

I was worried about this article until I read it and saw it was Paul Connors who they spoke to.

Isn't he the one who said last year his players didn't want to be at Port, shortly before they re-signed for the same club? Not doing anymore than getting his name in the papers and putting pressure on other management teams in the process for mine

In fact, I was heartened to see Phil Harper say they're confident they can resume talks with Walker's management soon. If they don't or those talks get postponed till the end of the year then we are definetely in trouble.

Funnily enough, I've been pondering the same thing. Walker WOULD be getting advice from people close to him.

I imagine most reasonable parents, if their child was saying "the coaches are too hard on me, I want to leave" would tell their child to pull themselves together, listen to the coaches and prove themselves.

Of course, if their child was saying "should I change my job, this mob wants to pay me $150k a year more" - well, you want your children to be secure.

Dear Taylor,

I understand you've got a huge decision to make. I hope you keep this in mind when you make it. You are in a truly priviliged position. Millions of young boys grow up kicking the footy around the backyard. They choose a club to support and love every minute of barracking for that club. Some are lucky enough to watch their club win a flag or two. Of those millions a number of them will have enough talent to start playing footy at a competetive level. Only a very small number of them will have what it takes to get a shot at AFL footy. Of those only a very select few get to play for the club they loved growing up as a kid and get to pull on the same guernsey they used to wear kicking that footy around the backyard as a 6 year old. You are one of those lucky few who have the oppurtunity to play for and taste success with the club you loved as a kid.

You're first few years have had ups and downs, but you are still the most talented forward to walk into this club since Tony Modra. I don't know if you have issues with the coach. I don't know if you are sick of the endless media scrutiny. I know you are going to get offered a bucketload of cash to move to Sydney and it will be bloody hard to resist. But if you do leave, you will never again get a chance to wear the red, blue and gold hoops you loved growing up, hopefuly on the MCG on the last Saturday in September with a medal around your neck.

The supporters are behind you Tex, please stay.

Yep, that's the same Paul Connors. Just doing his job, can't complain about that. This is the jostling for position before some serious blows are landed, and I really don't get any positive or negative vibes from his comments at all.

Actually if anything, I'd say that this would indicate that one or two of his stars have signed and he's looking to deflect attention from this. Does he have any clients at the Crows???

well written, i love it. very inspiring stuff.
as for the part about Mods, unfortunately Tex hasnt been given the same freedom as the great champ. Modra was so great coz he played his natural game.
Stop making Tex tow the party line and let him run around how he likes and play his natural game and we'll see HIS footy brain and talent in action!

It's not a real hard decision.

There aren't many jobs in the land where you get a significant pay rise for exactly the same job description and level of responsibility.

Interesting to hear Craig say the other night, that one of the ways supporters can deal with the short term pain of inconsistent performances, is to pick a young player, watch them and turn him into their favourite.

Sounds like most of us need to spend more time at Coopers Stadium then.

He is full of crap.

LOL, yeah no shit. Thats so you can be happy seeing your 'favourite player' get a kick as opposed to being unhappy the team gets thrashed.
nah i think what he's saying is the team is in development mode and he's trying to get supporters out of 'we want a flag mode' and into 'watch the kids grow mode'.

i'll be happy if he gives Tex the position he was born for- FF. Put kurtly tiprose at CHF. Tex wont reach his potential until he owns that FF posi.

Yeah right... don't worry that Walker has only missed 2 games this season yeah.

I think you'd be doing the club a great favor if you were to turn your membership in SP. Own up to it... you enjoy poisoning the club more than you ever enjoy supporting it.

If that is your intention... congratulations you're doing a fantastic job of sticking the boot into the club and rallying the hate mongers.

Deep down you contribute nothing to the club and deserve less in return. You consider your membership (if u have one) as nothing more than a license to stand on a soapbox and entertain a few idiots with an uneducated cynical hatred of the club.

Sounds reasonable - we could then on-trade that second rounder to you for Hurley, right?

Problem here is, if GWS want him, it wont be a case of them offering him $350k while we're offering him $300k (figures made up, but you get the idea), it'll be a case of us offering him $300k, and them offering $750k.

I'd be shattered if he left, but if that was the case, I wouldn't blame him.

I hope he stays here for at least 3-5 years, gets up and about, wins something with the boys, and then maybe he can go there to load up for his retirement (like Bocky).

"I can't even believe we're debating that players probably will stay at their clubs even though there's a $500,000 per annum difference. It wouldn't happen in rugby league, but it happens in ... AFL."

Given GWS is prepared to offer Ward at least $800,000 a season, he could pass up more than $2 million in the next five years.

Asked if the difference was as much as $400,000 a season, Connors replied: "More. (Their offers) are outrageous.

Great work AFL, you absolute w***ers.
