Re: taylor walker

I think Walker played well given the circumstances and you have to say - he still could have played poorly and not been the dominate forward of the game

in reality, he should have had 6, way to nice for a leading forward IMO.

What he did show was that he has a significant amount of talent but still isn't as hard at the ball as you would like for a bloke of his size.

Will be a superstar if used well.

Re: taylor walker

He was both very good and very average today - some lazy, half-hearted efforts, a couple of brain fads, a couple of times where he didn't compete; but the result was 4 goals, at least 2-3 goal assists - and probably a couple more goals if he wasn't actually too unselfish.

He frustrates the hell out of me, but I think it's just going to be something we have to accept with him - that the brilliant will be interspersed with the crap, and while the good outweighs the bed, then just enjoy it ;)

Hawthorn supporters had to deal with a lot of this early in Buddy's career. Not saying that Walker will be that good but he has the potential to be one of "those" players. Just give him time and play him in the right position (FF) and we could all be surprised with how good he could be.

Re: taylor walker

Like the way he is able to draw players to him whilst back steping and then feed the handball, makes time for himself to release the ball and allows our player to move forward toward goal when receivieng. *Carey like.

*please note I'm not calling him the next Carey, just to be clear

Re: taylor walker

I hate how he stops and braces for body contact when going for a ball in the air. He doesnt look like marking it when he does that.

Liked his game though. :thumbsu:

Thought there was something in the way the players got around him after the first goal. You usually only see that reaction after a game winning goal, or when a first gamer gets on the board. It was approval of the new regime methinks.

Re: taylor walker

Played well

in your top 5, was good to see him try and give a few off as well

But put it into context that he played on Salter, up there with the worst backman in the comp

Re: taylor walker

people dissing him are serious?

how many games has he played? yall are on some clown shit, so bad...

he was up against 3v1 more than once. i need to watch the replay but he had another awesome fend-off passage in close, you don't see much more attention being given by defenders in the game. comparable to people like barry hall... he has so much presence. players give him lip then flinch.

regardless of his actual playing ability, he's exactly what we need and what most people complain about. no flags being flown etc.

he had at least 2 to 3 goal assists...but at times looked to pass of too often, which weren't the right options and stuffed up on a couple occasions, but 4 goals and a few goal assists is a great return from Walker. love watching him shrug off tacklers and just happy to see him back in the team. :D

there was also this one pack situation that looked like Walker was going to take the mark, but Hendo came crashing in from behind to spoil the whole pack... reminded me of Tippett/Walker spoiling each other in a pack.

Re: taylor walker

it's obviously not natural for him to pass it off, looked a direct result of a coaching directive.

which causes him Massive Internal Conflict and affects his play

Re: taylor walker

Doppel - couldn't believe that, the one time Hendo hits a pack hard, and he spoils Tex ;)

You're right mate, like I said, we just need to accept the bad with the good.

Definitely right about presence too, the Port boys were into him all day - pretty sure he loves it.

:(

I can't for the life of me work out why the hell they are trying to turn Salter into a defender :(

Re: taylor walker

Did a couple of stupid things like the torpedo set shot and handballing instead of having a shot himself, and went one handed a couple of times but as the game went on he started to lead more and present and Port really had a hard time keeping him under wraps.

He just does the things that lift the crowd and the team as well when he's flying. Hopefully he keeps going.

Are forward line is "good under its current set up" according to Rhode last time it was asked of him around round 10 this yr on 5AA

but Walker showed today that Salter isn't a backman thats for sure

Re: taylor walker

Myself and my mate at the game both picked up on that - he was almost too unselfish, but at least he's trying to bring others into the game; he'll find the right balance over time.

I was disappointed when you guys grabbed him - because I hoped the Crows would.

When Williams left, I was looking forward to seeing Salter given a go as a forward...

I have no idea why the hell they don't at least let him play as a forward for a while - it's not going to hurt.

I genuinely hope he gets traded this year - his career will be over pretty quickly otherwise.

I thought the reaction was as much because the goal was caused by his good defensive pressure?

Re: taylor walker

Love the beard..He looks like a mean full forward now.....

Re: taylor walker

Maybe, but I doubt the players care as much about that as craig. I took it more as the players were keen to have him back and in the goalsquare.

Who knows though, maybe they were just pumped.

Re: taylor walker

Just watching the replay on tv now.

Both Gunston and Walker played on when Chaplin was close. Methinks Chappy is not respected as a defender.

Chaplin would have to be one of the most overrated players in the AFL...have rarely seen him perform when the pressure is in and there is a physical contest around.

Would play Talia and L Thompson ahead of him if he were on our list. Probably 50:50 with Young and Sellar.

Re: taylor walker

Did he have any tackles? ;)
His first goal was the result of a tackle he laid. His 1%ers were great tonight. Pack contests bringing it to ground for himself and others.

I do like his unselfishness, but I want him to back himself as well. Really needs to puff the chest out and peacock inside the 50. When he marks inside the 50, quick look up, no GLARING options, then set shot (where he's pin point.....so long as he's not trying inverted torps)
