Re: taylor walker

Think Walker is staying, the moment Craig got the flick and Bickley named him cemented it.

Re: taylor walker

Can we get onto a new page of this thread... Ive looked at a few times today only to see the first post "No way is Phill Davis leaving...." :(

Edit: That did it

We MUST retain Taylor Walker

After losing Phil, we cannot afford to lose another quality key position player to another club.

True FFs dont just come around, and they rarely pop themselves up in drafts, with maybe 1 every few years. Midfielders, there are a tonne of quality one in each draft, so the chance of picking one up is much, much better.

After hearing rumours of Vince and Walker wanting to be traded to GWS, i began to think that Taylor is a player we should throw the sink at to keep. With him and Tippet in our team, we will have one of, if not THE most formidable forward line in the comp in 2-3 years time.

Our premiership window i see being roughly 4 years. We the decent picks we will be getting over the next 2 seasons, and with the maturity of Sloane, Danger, Talia, Thompson, Pets, Wright, Martin, Mackay, Smith, Jacobs, our core group would be between 24-26 years of age. In 4 years time, Vince would be nearing 30, will he still be around, will his knees hold up to keep earning a spot in our midfield?

Vince is the player i can see us affording to lose. We may suffer in the short term, but will it really make a difference if we finish 8-9th next year, as opposed to 12th? The next 2 drafts are where we need to start shaping a team that will challenge for a premiership, and if that means letting go of an established player or 2, so be it.

A total clean-out would be dumb, you would still want your current crop of top players in the team to show the youngins the ropes.

Walker could be the next Modra, Brown, Fevola. Is it worth risking losing a gem of a player like him for a few added years of mediocrity?

Im hoping they can get in his ear about future possible earnings, media roles etc. They should get successful people outside of football (Roo for example) to have a word to him, and to talk to him about how there IS life here in Adelaide outside of football, and it can be very rewarding.

Re: We MUST retain Taylor Walker

We lose either or both Walker and Vince and we are in some serious POO, cant happen both need to be signed onto 3 year deals.

Re: taylor walker

Rowie on AA said Vince is close to signing. He also stated Taylor is going nowhere, but I'll believe that when he puts pen to paper.

Think we'll be going right out of our way to stitch these guys up very soon - club needs to buy some good publicity after the departure of Craigy and Davis.

Re: taylor walker

I'll search for the article but I did see a comment after the Davis saga saying that Tex was never approached by GWS. If this is true the poor guy has had to deal with a lot of harsh criticism without doing anything wrong.

And now that Davis has gone to the Giants, we have these imbeciles saying that he'll re-sign with us but only because he missed the GWS boat

Imbeciles.

Was that directed at me? If it was I never said that he would resign with us (he could demand a trade to GWS). Anyway, I found the article I was looking for:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/120006/default.aspx

Taylor Walker has been repeatedly linked to GWS, but it's understood the newcomers never approached him, and that he will remain at Adelaide.

Like I said before, if this is true then I feel sorry for Walker, the poor guy has certainly copped a fair bit.

Re: taylor walker

On AFL 360 they seem adamant that Taylor is going to Sydney. I am so sick of all of this. I actually can't wait for the end of the year so at least we don't have to put up with this anymore.

As far as the crows go, they need to tell Walker that he is a required player and will not be traded. If Port finish bottom he'lll be taken by them in the PSD so you would think that we should be able to get the deal done and keep him at the Crows.

I'd like to think that we're in a "nothing to lose" situation, but the reality is that we're far from it. Given our current predicament, letting a massive club favourite like Walker enter the PSD on principle would be nuts. The fact that the club that would get him would more than likely be Port Adelaide would be an unmitigated disaster.

Having said that, I still feel totally confident that Walker will sign without too much fuss - he's AFC through and through.

You mean GWS right? I really wouldn't worry about I too much. By recent accounts he is closing in a deal with the club that will probably be finalised at the end of the season. The other important thing to note is that Taylor just lost all his leverage with Davis coming out of the GWS "closet". Taylor and his agent can no longer play the "I could go the GWS" card at the negotiating table. This may mean we actually sign him for less than we would have previously because we won't think about overpaying to keep him out of the hands of GWS.

Financially, Davis coming out now may have actually saved the club from extending some potentially expensive bad contracts (Walker and Vince). Note- I'm not saying that we shouldn't resign them, but now they could be signed for less that what was previously being negotiated. This will hypothetically leave us with a large amount of cap space which could be used to recruit new players or reward/extend existing players like Danger who come of contract next year (note-GWS don't get another crack at anymore of our uncontracted players next year when they have another round of signings).

This. He ****ing loves the club.

See how pumped he was for every goal Saturday night (not just his) and the enthusiasm he showed.

Now that the lure of the over inflated contract is gone he will be a long term Crow. Might be time for him to do a Peter Shearer ad.

Maybe he and Mods could do one together.

I don't know if I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality for this to happen

Re: taylor walker

How would he get to Sydney anyway? If they finish in the 8 there will be 8 clubs who can all have a crack at him first. He would have to really hate the Crows or our offer be insulting for him to want to do that to us. He seems to like it here so if we pay him fairly he should stay. Not wanting to start the Craig debate again, but if he was still coach then we should be worrying.

I feel that we can compete pretty well with Sydney, as they won't be throwing around GWS-like sums.

What % more would Sydney have to offer an Adelaide player to compensate for the increased cost of living?
