This is ridiculous. Simply by-the-book negotiations by Walker's management here.

Both Tex and his Manager would have faith that he will improve significantly this year, thus improving his contract value.

From his point of view, it makes perfect sense that he waits until the end of the year. Nothing more to it, at least from the information we have.

Some people sound like "OMG Tex didn't sign the first thing we put in front of him, he must be leaving! The sky is falling!!"

Secondly, those saying that Tex would be no big loss are kidding themselves. Kid has huge potential, and to lose that would be a big loss indeed.

Sbenno according to trigg on 5aa we haven't even given him an offer because they won't let us. So how is that good management? How is that a strategy to drive up the worth of your contract if you haven't seen the original one?

Personally I think he has been poorly advised. Tex needs to concentrate on his footy this year and have a break out year, not deal with this added pressure. Unless of course he has no intention of remaining at the crows.

Maybe his manager thinks the Crows initial offer will be lower than Walker's market value?

I would think that is a pretty safe assumption based on our prior behaviour.

Phil Harper on afc.com said that they'd made a very generous offer to Tex. Afc seem to be the ones playing silly buggers here and not Tex. He'll stay. This is just contract argy bargy.

That's if Trigg is to be taken literally, I believe he means in the sit down and talk about it formally sense. I'd surprised if Tex doesnt have a very good idea of the coin on the table, and is just trying to kick 50+ goals before signing. The amount is only going to rise with the GWS looming and any improvement he can show throughout the year.

Either that or he's gone. :o

I just hope that the club has planned for this as some have pondered. If we lose him, I hope it's because we can't compete with the offer, rather than don't want to.

I'm not convinced about Walker. I know i'm in the minority but Friday nights effort pretty much summed up the way I see his development.

A touch of class mixed with a dash of the very ordinary. And I'm not talking about his poor kicking.
Gerrard Healy summed it up showing his frustration with Walker's lack of intensity, he just doesn't position himself properly in contested situations (marking contests).
This should be his bread and butter but more often than not stays back behind the pack instead of imposing himself at the drop of the ball.
He would be tough to beat but chooses to take the easy option of hanging back waiting for the loose ball.

He needs to get this part of his game right or risk becoming mediocre.

Lets not forget he's a 20 year old KPP and that was one NAB Cup match. Look, I don't know what he'll end up like when he's older, but chances are that he will be a gun at worst, a champion at best.

I wouldn't expect him to perform much better at the age of 20, if anything he's exceeded what a 20 year old KPP should do. I'd rather Taylor Walker than Jack Watts based on their performances so far and that's saying something.

Out of all of the under 22 year old KPP available who would you rather based on potential?

Hmm, I hadn't heard that.

Very strange if true. What possible reason could he have for not even looking?

Given the extroadinary circumstances, if we try and penny pinch like we have in the past then we deserve to lose him and consign ourselves forever to the land of the mediocre club.

For me a 4 year contract of $550-$600k per season. I believe he will be a better player than Tippett.

Gun footballer, can slot goals from 50 with ease and not many players can say they can do that. Match winner.

Need to work hard to keep him, alas I fear he may be already gone.

You would give a 4 year contract which would be in the top 15-20 salaries in the league?

Kurt got that sort of coin after a year in which he kicked as many goals as Walker has in his entire career.

While I think the Crows should do their utmost to keep him, I'm not sure if utmost should involve paying him as much as Fevola was on for his last contract.

You can't compare Walker with Tippet.
When Tippet has a shocker, he will still impose himself on the contest, he never gives up and that is very rare in a player.
Walker is not like that.

You do realise their career averages have Walker slight in front in disposals/marks and have them even on Goals right?

And that Walker is about 3 years younger and has put up those perofrmances before Tips had even played a game (by the same age).

Tips is an athletic freak and we needed to keep him for the structure he provides us.

Walker is a match winner that we can't afford to let slip through our fingers.

I'm not sure whats up with his kicking leg the last 12 months but soon as that sorts itself out... and unlike Tippett who did not grow up a natural footballer I have far more confidence that Tex's boot will finally come good consisently... he'll be a ****ing gun.

I love Tips but Walker is the key to a match winning forward line.

If we can't back ourselves in as a club to teach Walker how to play with more intensity whilst at the sametime backing Tips in to improve his skill level... we are a joke of a club. There is no doubt in my mind the kid wants to succeed and can work hard enough to do so - to me its all down to player management to get the best out of him.

Gee, there's a lot of pessimism in this thread.

All this talk about "he's gone, don't even play him, I can't enjoy watching him slot goals knowing that he's definitely gone" is a mile premature. I remember people on here calling for us to drop Tippett to the SANFL until he agreed to sign a contract.

It's a long season, guys, and it isn't going to get sorted any time soon. You should probably all take a deep breath and try not to let a media-driven hysteria get the better of you.

My reading of the comment (which was disputed by some others here) was that it implied that Walker was not interested in entering negotiations right now. Presumably this is because he believes his worth will be greater towards the end of the season than it is now.

He only has to look to Tippett to see what 50+ goals should get him.

bingo. he's built like a key position player but often plays like an opportunist. he's got to be better than that.
