This would make Tex the 2nd highest player in the league would it not? lol
Probably a few more than that ahead of him..

Ablett is obviously #1. Brown & Pavlich are probably #2 & #3, now that they both qualify for veteran status. Walker would be #4 behind these players - and ahead of Chris Judd!

Okay, I have just lost a lot of respect for Rhett, he is showing himself up to be a complete and utter flog. As I mentioned earlier, and was backed up by CC (who has a good track record on such things), this is absolute BS. The window for signing players finished ages ago and I know that as of a couple of weeks ago there had been no conversation between either party, there is nothing signed.

Biglands is clearly just using Walker's situation to get himself some airplay, by dreaming up false rumours that he know's will create controversy and will get heaps of attention from media outlets. Whilst I would expect this kind of crap from people like Rucci, however I'd expect more from a past player of the club.

Discrediting the integrity of a young player such as Walker for your own personal gain is a low act, although I suppose such a thing is what makes a jounalist successful these days:rolleyes: At least we know early on that Biglands' word is not to be trusted.

Otherwise, Biglands has some pretty average "sources" or needs to seriously sort out who he can trust.

Considering this was brought up on his radio station, I really hope Ricciuto does a little digging and sets the record straight.

I don't normally venture here but didn't Dustin Martin get offered $2.4 million over 3 years by the Suns?

I doubt it, he was still contracted to Richmond at the end of last year, Gold Coast would have had to have traded for him, they couldn't access him as an uncontracted player.

Greater Western Sydney may have made such a play though.

Now we know that Biglands is full of it. Proven superstar players like Ablett get $1m per year. Unproven kids like Walker do not. Not even close. Not even in the same postcode.
Their best handful of players are going to get a truckload of dollars, whether they are able to attract the quality of player to warrant those dollars or not who knows. The dollars come first though, not the player.

If the big names that have been mentioned have knocked them back, that means there will be some mid-range types and some young players getting way over the odds.

Still don't get the move to offer these young guys that sort of money - with the picks they've got in the draft, they can pick up a fistful of Scullys and Martins and Trengoves and pay them peanuts for two years...

because its a free hit. you've got the money, the cap space, the opportunity.

why the heck not? Scully / Martin are 12 - 15 yr players.

Why midfielders is more my point.

Why not throw that sort of money at someone like Roughead? Good key forwards are rare as hens teeth, Roughy is better than good and I'm sure there's a ceiling on his earning ability at Hawthorn with Buddy, Mitchell, Hodge etc all running around.

No problem with them targeting mature, hard bodied midfielders with their cap space as well, but they can get all the potentially elite young midfielders that they want in the draft. Surely KPPs are a priority?

Without a half decent midfield forwards are useless.

I believe there is less risk in a key mid/defender going to a start up club than there is for a key forward. If supply is limited your chances to score are limited.

A guy like Walker could be signed up for $1m a year over three years and spend the first two of those years frustrated as the mids develop. In his third year, after two years of frustration he kicks a few more, but is not the same player he was as a 21 year old. His next contract reflects this, or he is traded/delisted.

As a key forward, you would want to know who is going to be in the midfield before signing? I dont see too many of the Ablett calibre putting their hands up to move this year.

GCs recruting seemed to be to sure up the backline and midfield. Then find a big guy in Dixon in the country somewhere to kick goals. With a Ruck/Forward like Smith picked up as well.

I personally think paying big bucks for a key forward, taking up cap space for mids to supply the forward is not a good way to set up a club.

As an aside a cheaper option for a key forward could Nick Salter. I have heard that it was Laidley that sees him as a defender, not Choco. I wonder if they have made contact with him, and get him to request a trade. As I beleive he is still contracted. They can then still lure an uncontracted player from then. Like GC did with Brennen and Rischitelli.

soooo, anyone see the advertiser this morning?

seems like Big Rhettlands is determined to get his name out there for some reason.

Either way ill be pissed. Either Walker leaves or a former player from our club is being a ********.

On MMM this morning Luke Darcy (whom I despise) insists Taylor Walker is GC bound. Not sure if he meant to say GWS, but he sounded arrogantly adamant.

The club has to stop pussyfooting around and find out exactly what Walker wants to get his signature and then come to terms with him and get it done, if we leave it till the end of the year we'll lose him.

Hasn't NC spend 7 years developing a great culture to prevent this?

Walker isn't going anywhere. I know he hasn't come out and said it but his actions speak for themselves. He is not acting like a player who intends on leaving the club.

A lot is made of Walker and the club's decision not to speak on this until the end of the year, as if it is a sign that he is going. IMO if the club knows that Taylor is a sure thing to stay, they are better off not announcing it.

Think about it, if GWS are targetting Walker strongly and the club know he intends to stay, we may as well let GWS keep diverting resources to trying to lure him. If we came out and said taht he'd re-signed with us for another three years, then that will only shift their attention to another player, a player who may not be as certian to stay...

I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried now.

It starting to feel alot like the Bock situation.

The difference is that losing Bock didnt hurt us, but losing Walker would be something will really hurts us. If he goes to GWS I am sure that in 5 years time we'll be looking back and dreaming about what could have been if he stayed with us.
