Ah, no, Rucci started the original rumour last year in The Advertiser to stir up Adelaide supporters. And on Biglands, he is a known liar. If you think his '70% confident' opinion means anything, then worry all you want, but I sure won't be.

Excuse me? care to share?

How much does someone get for defamation these days?

care to provide some truth to this allegation

Only repeating what an ex team mate of his in VB said on Triple M Monday night. You can have a listen to the podcast if you still don't believe me.

'70% confident', dear lawd. Also, why did it take 4 days to reach The Advertiser? Biglands mentioned this on Saturday during the Port game pre match on Triple M.

Wont salary caps go up with the new tv deal? That should give us room to move on Tex's offer.

maybe all contracts will increase by the same percentage that the cap goes up by?

I didn't hear that, so I can not comment but are you repeating the words in the same context?

I could only imagine that NVB was saying it in a joking way, you are repeating it as if its a fact. Bit of a difference.

I don't know, what does it matter. It did, it still doesn't change the fact that Rhett Biglands would have more of an idea than you or me. I don't know Rhetts motivation for saying it but he did and I suspect he would beleive him sourse.

I want him to stay but the cards ATM are not looking good.

No, but it will with the new CBA and that is due to expire at the end of this season.

I would suggest you are correct, percentage increase on wages, this is what happens in "real world" industrial instruments so I can't see why it wouldn't for an AFL one.

Why not listen to the interview yourself? It was pretty clear VB wasn't joking, why would he joke about something like this anyway? Who should I believe, you or VB? Hmmmm... What happened to all the media experts who had sources that Tippett was leaving?

The cards were exactly the same with Tippett, who had a far stronger case to leave. Why on earth wouldn't you still be confident after '70%' Biglands said something?

I'm sure Rucci had a 'source' too.

I would rate Rhetts commentry on a par with yours :D

Didn't they say during the trade period that they won't be going over the 92.5% cap? I'm sure they did.. can't find a source.

Thinking about this.. I heard it on Trade Week Radio, also:

OUT:

Goodwin (Vetran)
McLeod (Vetran)
Edwards (Vetran)
Bock
Burton (Vetran)
Hentschel
Griffin
Jacky

Whilst Goodwin, McLeod, Edwards and Burton were veteran's, 3/4 of their wages would be pretty significant (4 veterans means 1/4 of their salary is outside of the cap not 1/2). Bock's wage would have been okay, Jacky's was massive.

My guess; $2m out.

IN:

Tambling
Jacobs
Smith
Lyons
Jaensch
L. Thompson
Henderson
Rookie Upgrade remaining
Plus we may have threw some money at Knights
Signed up Dangerfield after Edwards retired

My guess; $1.6m in.

It's hard to tell because we probably re-sign other players during the year but prima facie it appears we haven't over-spent in 2010. You'd have to be an idiot not to leave anything in the bank for GWS, and i'm sure we have.

Oh FFS, what "cards"? What "sources"?

GWS have stacks of money and can sign uncontracted players. Ok, then.

They would like to have Taylor Walker on their list. Well, duh.

Taylor Walker, like any other player and for reasons given by other posters in this thread, will go through the normal process of training, playing, talking with his manager and through his manager negotiating his next contract with the club. He will also consider other factors such as where he has the best chance of success as a player, etc etc. He will not discuss this publicly and rightly so.

All of this is entirely predictable and S.O.P.

People in the media (and elsewhere) who want to make it sound like they've got "good sources" and they're right in the innder circle of footy, will say things like "my mail is..." and "the cards are not looking good" and "I'm 70% certain..."

Then we get headlines (in newspapers and on internet threads) like "Crows Plan Walker Talks!" Gee, y'reckon? A player coming out of contract this year and the club is planning to TALK with him? Who'd a thunk it?

It's Tippett and 2010 all over again.

Nothing to see here.

The only worthwhile part about this discussion is the discussion of how contracts, salary caps etc work. The rest is just hot air.

Craig Hutchinson 'Tippett will go'. Etc etc, we've heard it all before.

I think we all knew Bocky would go, but no one expects Tex to go.

And he won't, so long as he gets a good deal this year with game time etc.

I doubt this will be the case. Players are not paid "wages", they negotiate contracts, for a set period of time.

The AFLPA has inserted safeguards in the CBA, so there are certain minimums that can't be negotiated away, but once the contract is signed it is binding for it's agreed term.

What will go up with the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (assuming the predicted huge increase in broadcast rights agreement - up from $750 million over 5 years to $1000 million) is the agreed Salary Cap - the total of the player payments that a club is allowed to agree to pay to players in a year.
"The salary cap, known officially as Total Player Payments, is A$8,212,500 for the 2011 season with a salary floor of $7,596,562.50 (except for the GC expansion team, whose salary cap will be A$9,212,500 with a salary floor of A$8,596,562.50)."
2011 is the last year of this Collective Bargaining Agreement, and when the Players Association negotiate the new one with the AFL they have already made it clear that they want a big increase. The agreed minimum rates for first year players, Rookies and the like will be increased as part of the agreement, but I can't see the clubs (through the AFL Commission) letting the AFL agree to an across-the-board increase in current contracts.

Of course, some player's managements may have included increase clauses in their player's contracts provisional on salary cap increase.

But the most likely situation for 2012 is that the salary cap will be over $10 million, and most of that increase will be uncommitted.

Waiting for the details of this to unfold is why the management of players coming out of contract this year have reasons other than GWS's interest to delay negotiations.

So GWS can sign uncontracted players for 2 years not just one. Great. Hard to believe our very own Stephen Trigg had a hand in drafting these rules.

Does anyone know for how long GC and GWS have the extra cap for?

Good question - I asked this a while back and Vader answered but I cant remember exactly what it was - I think it's at least a few years.

The AFL will probably extend it until they win a flag....

It's depressing, no two ways about it.

2011 - 48 senior list, nine rookies with $1m TPP extra allowance;
2012 - 46 senior list, nine rookies with $800k TPP extra allowance;
2013 - 42 senior list, nine rookies with $600k TPP extra allowance;
2014 - 40 senior list, nine rookies with $400k TPP extra allowance;
2015 - 38 senior list, nine rookies in line with other AFL clubs.

this is Gold Coast's concessions, I envisage that GWS' will be somewhat the same.

I see everyones fav journo has pumped up old smacks tyres today, only to paint a possible scenario of losing him as an uncontracted player in '12 having spent all our cap to keep tex.

Its probably reality though, cant see every young player being able to get their pay rises. Such a mess these expansion teams have created, I wonder how many players we wont be able to fit having had to up the ante prematurely on Tippett and co.

I think what all other clubs, Adelaide included need to do is really "hammer" the Gold Coast Suns at every opportunity to show Tex and others what exactly their in for if even contemplating abandoning their current clubs and chasing the $$$$'s thrown at them by GWS.

Agreed. When they come here a 100 point thrashing with Bock being heckled all day would be food for thought.

yeah, and they should egg the team bus before and after the game, and call the players names too. tell 'em no one likes them, and they smell. :thumbsu:
