Yesterday it was Scully (whose management vehemently denies it), today it's Walker. Anything to divert attention from the fact that GWS are openly targeting Swan, Pendlebury and Thomas from his own team.

I sincerely doubt that Walker would walk out on the Crows. There is no logical reason to suggest that he would, other than money. There are plenty of good reasons for him to stay.

I'd suggest that his situation is more akin to that of Tippett than Bock.

This.

Also, if the Tippett/Ablett sagas have taught us anything is that it's just not worth stressing about.

We have no control or little indication and will find out in due course, those intending to hold on to every bump in the road will give themselves a heart attack!

Re: Eddie says Tex is as good as gone

Well i hope it is not true but you do have to start wondering when rumblings of tex moving to GWS move from local to national rumours. Going on the history of the Gold Coast Rumours I think he has signed or has committed to sign with GWS. If he is genuinly committed to the crows I beleive like Tippett he would have signed an extension last season. Players seldom wait these days to sign a new contract at the end of the old one unless they are over 30 or have had a long term injury and want to build their value up.

I know it is his right to not sign until the end of the year, and I have no problem with that at all. I just think it is highly suspicious that he has chosen not too at this time. Normally a club makes announcements that negotiations are underway but it has been deadset silence from the crows which to me is not a good sign at all.

I am sure that Craigy will or already has eye balled Walker and given him the same deal as he gave Bock.

Please remember it's only February. Hurley was 'good as gone' at this point of the year as well, but re-signed soon after. The Gold Coast rumours took until August to shake off all the rubbish.

Tippett let us sweat it out to the end... he did not sign early at all. If Tex signs with us this offseason it will be exactly the same scenario.

Except for the signing a year early part ....

I hate to put the frighteners on you, but Tippett could still be a GWS target too...

Tippett signed on for an additional 2 years, meaning that he is contracted until the end of 2012. Unlike GC, who only had 2010 to play with, GWS are able to sign uncontracted players in both 2011 & 2012.

I really hate what the AFL have done here..

Re: Eddie says Tex is as good as gone

Can the GWS pilfer GC players in year 2 of their window?
Why not? Most of them would be on 2-year contracts, especially all those 1st round draftees who are on standard rookie contracts.

If they can sign Tom Scully, who is coming off his inaugural rookie contract then surely GC are no different?

Re: Eddie says Tex is as good as gone

Point is, he didnt quash speculation of leaving by signing during the season.
Why would he sign when he still had over a year left to run on his contract? Would you sign a new contract 18 months before the existing one expired and you thought that you'd get a better deal by holding off on negotiations for a while?

Probably written into the rules that GWS can take from any of the 'current' 16 teams. Technically leaving GC out.

Would be funny if they lost someone.

Just checked, GC are specifically excluded. Here's an excerpt from the AFL Player Rules (September 2010 edition):
36.7 Uncontracted Players - 2011
(a) By no later than the date and time nominated by the General Manager – Football Operations, WSFC may include on its Primary List up to one Listed Player from each other Club, excluding Gold Coast Football Club, (or more than one if the other Club agrees) provided such Player is uncontracted for the 2012 AFL Season.

Im not trying to argue otherwise... just saying what happened.

At no point did he do anything to fuel the rumour mill. Both Tippett, his management and the AFC hierarchy were all completely consistent in stating that he wasn't leaving and that a deal would be done. He then proceeded to put his John Hancock on the contract 12 months ahead of time. What more did you actually expect?

... why do you continue to go down this path? I just said I wasnt arguing!

Go back and read.. my posts are in response to adelaidecrows who seems to think tex should have signed last season... we are actually in agreeance vader... sheesh!

I though his contract ended at the end of 2009, and he could have signed a 1 year deal to open up the GC opportunity at thw end of 2010, instead he signed for 2/3 years to close out the GC. No way will he go to GWS, its GC or Adelaide for Tippet. If his home town (one of the best locations in Oz) couldn't get him to leave then a club in the worst part of of Oz has no chance, unless he is provided a helicopter to get from Bondi to training and back each day.

His contract was due to expire at the end of 2010. He re-signed at the end of 2009, with a 2-year extension (2010 + 2011 & 2012).

ADELAIDE midfielder Rory Sloane has backed the club's next generation of stars to stick together, saying the prospect of team success outweighs the financial lure of joining cashed-up Greater Western Sydney.

....

"I know Taylor's solely focused on having a good year and he's on the same page as us. He wants to go places with our playing group. We've got a young and exciting playing group and Taylor's a big part of that."

I realise it's exactly what you'd expect them to say, but it is what they've said in the past and it's proved true so far.

I agree although I would have liked to hear it out of Taylor's mouth rather than Sloane's. Tippett always said in the media the same things - he saw a great future here at Adelaide, exciting list, building towards something special etc. Has Walker said anything like this publically?

I really hope he stays and will be shattered if he leaves. After him being a lifelong Crows man, actively seeking us out for an NSW scholarship including turning down the chance to be linked to some other clubs including the highest profile club in the comp it would be a huge shock if he goes. Here's hoping Tippo is in his ear constantly describing all the reasons he chose to turn down GC and stay here.

Trigg was on 5AA and asked about Tex. Rates him highly and wants to put a contract to him which is a good one and thinks Tex would be happy with. But Tex wont even look at it. Surely if youre holding out for a higher contract you would want to see what the starting point was. Either he is going or being poorly advised.

it's only February - why look at it now? If he looks at it, Triggy will want an answer - better to just take the whole thing off the agenda until the end of the year - unless he thinks he will be worth less then to either AFC or GWS
