It is the media who hurts the most. But in Abletts case everything was highlighted due to the obvious fight with Bomberwhich made the speculation worse. The speculation on Bock was nowhere near as bad. What Neil is doing is keeping Walkers name in front of the media and to me that is making it much worse.

Unfortunately, it reminds me of the Ablett/Bomber scenario last year. Neil is getting frustrated with media pressure and wants Walker to spit it out - Yes or No. He now even seems to be using the media a little bit to put pressure back on Walker. Honestly, from the outside it doesn't look like they have the best relationship. If they did, Neil wouldn't have to say this stuff to the media, he would know a bit more about what was going on.

Let's not forget the pressure on Neil here, he knows that if Walker goes then he will be crucified and blamed for "the bad treatment" that "made" Walker leave.

Neil talks about, 'need an environment of trust' to facilitate players coming forward.

The reality is the environment includes the media and us as fans.

So.... reality is, as you've highlighted, such an environment does't, and never would, exist until the culture around 'club loyalty' under goes a massive change. Do any of us ever want this?
Looks like Taylor has been put right back outside the Craig circle of trust.

And once you're out, you're out. There's no coming back.

he might be partial to flowers and chocolates.

Look, I know this is just Bigfooty and you can't really believe anything anyone writes, but for what its worth I have it on very good authority that reports linking Taylor Walker to GWS are nothing but Media speculation and Kevin Sheedy stirring the pot.

It is beyond belief the number of people who still haven't worked out what the media is about:o What is the motto of every news editor? "Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story"

The media have a great story and they are going to milk it for all its worth and until the vast majority of people learn to cast a critical eye over what is written in the paper, the media will continue to pass off baseless speculation so that it reads as fact, distort the context of quotes and basically bend and manipulate everything so that it creates them the juiciest story possible.

Personally I think the GWS is playing smoke and mirrors, play the Taylor Walker card for as much as its worth, using it to distract us from their real target, in the hope that we pay Walker overs and thus can't pay their real target true value.

Whilst I'd love to see Taylor signed, I'm quite thankful in a way that we haven't signed him yet, because it would mean we've probably payed too much and it would leave us exposed elsewhere. We have a number of young players who would interest GWS, who will come out of contract within the next two years, if we wish to keep them all, we need to be very careful about how we manage our player contracts.

Currently all the media have to go on is Kevin Sheedy identifying Taylor Walker as a target and the fact that Taylor has deferred contract negotiations. Now if you're not taking everything Kevin Sheedy sprouts out at the moment with not a pinch, but a handful of salt, then you are seriously naive. Kevin Sheedy is employed by GWS for one reason, to create headlines. The AFL have a hard sell in West Sydney, a lot harder than the Gold Coast, they need all the headlines they can get. The media only play along because it sells papers.

DeNiro references are always cool. Always.

Personally, I prefer Brando but DeNiro is still good.

If only Neil Craig could coach a finals, things would be different.

"You don't understand. We coulda had class. We coulda been a contender. We coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what we are in finals, let's face it. It was you, Neil Craig who lost the finals."

Am I right in saying Tippett was in same boat in 2009. All the media certain he was gone. All the while we had come to agreement with Nathan Bock. You guys have one of the best defences in the land. Success in most sports is built upon solid defence. New clubs need to build this first. Hence we got Bock, Brown, Harbrow and Krak..

I would expect your backline to be picked apart before Walker is approached. What is Rutten's contract situation?

Agree with alot of what James has said but lets not forget the media got 95% of the player movements to Gold Coast correct.

Basically anyone who hadnt re-signed with their club was labelled "gaaaawn" at some point, including Tippett.

The profile of their pickups was interesting. Aside from the best player in the land and the two from dysfunctional brissy, the suns didnt really snare anyone crucial to their clubs future. Harbrow probably the closest to that description, but the doggies will move on quickly. We didnt see any 2-5 year future star types pillaged, like walker or scully.

Clubs kept their important players, despite the much bigger $. Aging players seeking new opportunities seem to be the easy targets, plus they meet the new clubs needs. Why pilfer potentials when you have a monopoly on the draft?

Knights was also going too IIRC.

Knights wasnt linked to the Gold Coast but going home. These stories surface every year.

The GC and GWS situations are different. There were a number of players who the media speculated had already signed and they were pretty spot on.

I also agree that Walker may not be a target, but GWS isnt Walker's only option either. If he is prepared to go to a bottom team for more coin and opportunity he can go in the preseason draft.

If I was GWS I would be hitting Andy Otten pretty hard, his brother is in Sydney and he may be tempted by a family reunion.

Tippett was already signed up this time last year. From memory it was announced at the 09 B&F.

The media linked almost every out of contract player to the GC including S Thompson, Tippett, Hodge, Reiwoldt and many others

its easy to get a few right when you cover your bases by naming most out of contract players

Disgraceful comment, Neil Craig has been great for our club.

I reckon Taylor will stay. Just heard Tip on the radio. Sounds like they have a good relationship. Taylor also being involved with The Tribe, at own request, also an indicator.

Don't care what is written each week about him going, will wait till we know for sure before I comment again.

the first job for the Tribe is to camp outside Tex's place and chant:

"STAY TAYLOR STAY"

for as long as it takes to get a signature

I'm predicting about an hour ought to do it :D

Yeah but, he may just take that to mean stay at home. He aint the brightest ya know. He then misses training and is sent back to Norwood.

If Walker is one of 9-10 speculated players left standing in August, then I will crap my pants, but until then we are wasting our time on this thread.
