... in my last post.

BTW- These kids out of kindy wouldn't happen to only the left overs from all the good youthful players Victoria has stolen in the other topic you started, would they?

What the hell are you on about

What have the crows got??
They have aging list that was exploited last year and will be again.

Blight saw the writing on the wall 2 years ago and got out.

Um you have 5 hard years ahead of you at least.
That is untill the players you drafted THIS year grow up.

Sorry

Sabre, what the hell do you mean about an "ageing list". The average age of the Crows team is 22 - take out Smart and Bickley and it goes down even further.

One minute we're criticised for being "ageing" and then we're criticised for being too young. Sheesh.

As for Blighty - he can't stand still for more than 2 minutes. Saints better make the most of it - he won't be there long.

Stengas,

I don't know if we'll be the best, but we'll by up there in the top eight. Might even be up there next year if we get a bit of luck. BSA, totally agree with you, Ayres is a big problem, hopefully in his second year the team can gel a little better under him and Gary might realise just where to put all of our good players.

Sabre, Crow54 already had a go at you and I'll have my turn. An ageing list?? You obviously haven't paid much attention to what's going on over here in SA, but however, you may not care. If you don't give a stuff, then don't say things on which you are not informed. They make you sound stupid, which you are probably not. The Crows have got rid of most of their players over 27 years of age, leaving us with only (I think) 4 players over 28 years old. We are now quite a young team.

I think the future looks bright. (I'll debate all day on this

Check your facts. As the title of this thread suggests and as you can read for yourself on the AFL website, Crows will have their youngest list EVER in 2001. That is exactly the opposite to an aging list.

What have Crows got?

-Three current all-Australian players.
-Two or perhaps three playable new recruits (out of Bode, Hewitt and Angwin). Perhaps a key position recruit in that lot.
-Return of Neil Craig who was last with Crows coaching panel in the years 97 and 98 (think about that for just a moment).
-Two reasonable players in Burton & Stevens who barely played a game last season through injury.
-Nine wins last year after a slow (and hard luck) start.

All it will take is a small improvement and a few more wins, Crows will be back in the thick of it! No worries!

Well then, let's compare that to my side, the Brisbane Lions. (average age 23, what a bunch of old fogeys, less when Lynch retires)

Well, maybe we don't have any All-Australians, but personally I'd rate Voss and Leppitsch as the equal of any two of McLeod, Ricciuto and Goodwin, though of course I'm biased.

When you're talking about playable new recruits, think of Pike and Michael, and compare that to Bode, Hewitt and Angwin.

And I'd hope that it isn't necesary to compare Burton and Stevens with Keating, McRae and Kennedy.

Twelve wins, and fifth place, after an incredibly slow start, and possibly the worst early season draw in the history of the league. (I still can't get over four consecutive interstate games)

We're already in the thick of it.

Finally, let's compare the two sides' best players.

Adelaide: Ricciuto 25, McLeod 24, Goodwin 23, Jarman 33, Smart 31, Bickley 31, Vardy 24, Hart 26

Brisbane: Voss 25, Leppitsch 25, Black 21, Scott 24, Lappin 24, Power 20, Akermanis 23, McDonald 21,

Who's going to be around longer?

Don't kid yourselves Crows fans, having young players means nothing if you're not making the finals.

I'm not trying to claim Crows will be great, but I do think they may make the finals (hence "the thick of it"). I think Brisbane are OK too, but don't kid yourself, theres just not the gap that you imagine.

Bickley & Vardy are not in Crows best players, nor probably is Jarman (although he is bloody handy, but will only be around for next year, agreed).

Edwards and Johnson are better players for Crows than Bickley and Vardy. Welsh did a little better than Vardy last year. Burton is good if not injured and allowed to play his own style. There are quite a few "OK" sort of players that are ready to step up just a little.

No, Crows won't be great in 2001, but they will be reasonably competitive. More so than this thread in general suggests, anyway. Mid-table or slightly above, perhaps, is my guess.
