Crows player king hit?

As fryingpan said, he probably made a stupid comment and was hit. I dont buy this "unprovoked" nonsense. I know this guy better than anybody on this board (more than likely) and I know he does that kind of thing. I want to defend him but I just dunno anymore. Hope he recovers quickly though and pulls his head in otherwise his AFL career is over before it had the chance to start

Good call.

Every time a professional sportsman anywhere gets into trouble on the town it's always 'unprovoked' or some other 'not my/his fault' scenario.

We know these blokes are potential moron magnets because of who they are, but jeez, the majority of them act like tools and figjams and don't make the target any smaller.

I once saw an ex-high draft pick deliberately break a few glasses at a bar while clearly off his bonce on something and he had to be escorted out by a couple of suits he was with, rather than the circling bouncers who were waiting to pounce.

Had he been kicked out and gone down swinging, no doubt it'd be another "the bouncer did it" sob story to the coaching staff the next morning.

I dont see anybody saying he deserved to be hit? All I see is some people saying he has a rep as being a smartarse and it is quite possible he said something to provoke the person.

Its pretty uncommon for some random person to come out of nowhere and clock someone for no reason. Theres usually some reason.

Have to agree Macca. :(

He's a player who has found more than his share of trouble in his short period with the AFC.

That history sort of shoots down the theory that we should only draft players from SA, when you compare his behaviour with VB, Douglas and Knights.

He's good enough to play AFL. Will he give himself that opportunity?

Seriously, I can't believe this. Whether or not it was his fault, why did he place himself in this situation?

An AFL career beckons, potentially worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and this guy has been in strife on more than one occasion for enjoying the nightlife too much.

Pull your head in son and make the most of your opportunity.

He is 19 years old FFS – it was a Saturday night and his mate was celebrating his birthday, surly you are not suggesting he become a recluse.

Hang on, you're making bold assumptions. What sort of situation was he in ? Enjoying a quiet beer or was he drunk ? Standing harmless talking to his mate or was he in the thick of the action mouthing off ? You dont know anything for sure.

I agree, but lets judge every case on its merits. We can speculate all we like about what is probable or possible, but noone knows the full story.

Having said that, it sounds almost unbelievable that he did absolutely nothing and then got king hit from behind without, in any way, provoking it.

Weird.

i got bottled once when i didnt provoke anything. Some people are just ****heads. AFL players are more of a target than me as well

Not a good way to start the year off...and what ever the reasons I hope he looks at what situations he puts himself in. Not saying he should be a recluse, but maybe he should be looking at ways he can minimise any issues that may arise.

Whether that be drinking water to leaving early.

Good luck in his recovery and lets hope he gets to wear a Crows jumper...because the rate he is going he will be another otential talent wasted

doesnt mean he cannot go out and celebrate a mates birthday, lets not go overboard.

We cannot expect him to be tucked into bed at 7:30 each night, everyone needs a life outside of their career.

Crow king-hit in Bay hotel

MICHELANGELO RUCCI, CHIEF FOOTBALL WRITER

Article from: The Advertiser

UNTRIED Crows midfielder Darren Pfeiffer's genuine chance for his AFL debut in the next fortnight has been wrecked by a fractured cheekbone from an unprovoked king-hit at a Glenelg hotel at the weekend.
Pfeiffer, 19, had surgery to correct the break last night. He will need at least a month to recover.

The incident will lead to a police report after Pfeiffer leaves hospital later this week. It might also lead to civil action for losses Pfeiffer will suffer while his AFL debut was delayed.

The Adelaide Football Club last night issued a statement saying: "(Pfeiffer) was hit from behind without any provocation". This conclusion, after an extensive investigation by the club, has been supported by independent witnesses, Adelaide football operations manager John Reid said last night.

The Advertiser understands Pfeiffer was targeted after innocently - and politely - talking to a female patron at a Glenelg hotel after he arrived for a friend's birthday celebration on Saturday night. Later, as he left the hotel, he was king-hit.

Pfeiffer's chance for his AFL debut had been enhanced earlier in the day by his impressive performance with SANFL club Norwood against league premier Woodville-West Torrens.

The Crows were searching in their investigations because of the greater focus on footballers after a pre-season of banner headlines for off-field misbehaviour.

Pfeiffer was suspended by the Crows for four weeks last year, the junior All-Australian sent back to Norwood after repeatedly turning up late for training. Since then, Reid said, Pfeiffer had regained respect from his team-mates by his dedication to training that had put him in line for his AFL debut next month.

He may or maynot be a big mouth smart arse, however you just have to look at person sideways these days and being the days of courage in a bottle/joint whatever, these couragous thugs could be spoiling for a fight.

We just don't know.

Nice article from Ferrett-breath.....:thumbsu:

Actually quoted Reidy accurately and everything......:thumbsu: :thumbsu:

This knob (girly, sneeky, coward punch thrower) needs to be outed and made an example of...

Dale the Buffoon was rightly hung out in the media for everyone to judge and technically he was a victim of crime...(although he deserved it).

Now this perpetrator needs to be given the same treatment....

I'm going to ring Bill now and suggest he directs the Advertiser to get Rooch right on it..:thumbsu:

Agreed, whoever this was needs to be found and absolutely hung out to dry. Me and another mate of mine were discussing this last night and came up with the same thing as may people on here.... you dont have to do a lot wrong these days to get punched in the face. Maybe Daz provoked him but for some people that may just mean calling them a "*****head"

If all this is over is Darren speaking to this clowns girlfriend/friend then I agree with Mad Dog, hang this fool out to dry. Make an example of him. I also agree that he should take this to court.

Dale the Buffoon sought the media spotlight at every opportunity following the smackdown to portray himself as the aggrieved victim. He was never hung out by the media, it was his own self-portrait that brought him undone.

If and when the authorities find this person who assaulted Darren Pfeiffer; I will be absolutely astounded if the media insinuate that he is a supporter of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

In no way will this person be labelled a ‘coward’ for provoking an incident with an AFL player.

I am in now way condoning what Dale Mortimer did and should never have said what he did to provoke the incident but at the end of the day he was the victim and Dean Brogan was the perpetrator.

What was to insinuate with Dale? He appeared on Today Tonight wearing crows merchandise. He openly admitted he went to the airport to "send off" interstate crows opposition. Who was behind calling the papers and photographer when Dale was hit? Who agreed to do interviews at every opportunity (although he has suddenly become camera shy as he goes on holidays overseas despite his dread fear of leaving the house. Must be some Zathurah mojo happening there I guess).

Read what I wrote. I made no comment that Dean's actions did not make him the perpetrator (even if the arseclown asked for a major smackdown) - I made the point the media did not hang Dale out to dry. He did that quite adequately himself, even if the media - that he invited - were the tools of his self-destruction.

Don't kid yourself, I doubt there's a Port supporter that knows what Darren Pfeiffer looks like. Young men, alcohol, young women, innocent chats - all the ingredients were there for mayhem regardless of any football club affiliation.

Yeah ok

That is the logical scenario that allowed this situation to occur.

I said hung out in the media

not hung out by the media....;)

given his obvious predisposition for stupidity....all the media needed to do was report the story and give him every opportunity to "tell his story of whoa"......and the rest happened naturally

It's a time honoured list of ingredients. Believe what you want.

Ah, semantics MD. ;)

The bottom line is DtB hung himself out in the media. For the guy that cracked Pfeiffer to get the same treatment would require a rare mix of shameless self-promotion and total lack of self-awareness.
