But doesn't that basically admit guilt of what has happened? Surely what they've said is more palatable for the "lay" supporter. A week is a long time in football, deny deny deny and the media will move onto the next thing. Granted it doesn't resolve the issue but neither does talking publicly about it. At least the method they went with gives the club a chance to deal with it internally without players being hounded by media.

Long term it really doesn't matter what they say externally, it's all about what they do internally.
If it had gone away in March I might agree. There is some deeper issue and the media have got their teeth into it. Most of the media were news and not sport. To be fair they cocked this up right back in March

It probably just took this long before the club needed to do some damage control PR. May have already been a bunch of changes in place to resolve issues.

Four months hasn't been long enough. Story isn't going away. The media still see chum in the water and many crows fans are content to watch them attack. The CM saga wont be off our minds until after this years trade period and we confirm that we haven't lost any players, like Gov for example. But more generally, I think many of us won't be happy until Burton at the very least is gone. At this elite level, we can't afford to have an incompetent person in charge of our high performance team. But that isn't going to happen, and therefore we aren't going to be happy.

Normally, we as fans would be willing to tow the company line too and defend our club against all sorts of things that are said about in the media, whether we agree with them or not. But in this case, as long as Burton is around and if the criticism can in anyway be linked to Burton, then I dont think you will get fans rushing to defend the club. This is the type of thing that the media will thrive on. Its much harder for the media to go after a club, when the fans are united behind them. The media usually has to show some restraint. But if the fan base is split they are free to be ruthless and relentless.

The guys getting paid 100k+, he should be able to handle himself in front of the media.

I don't mind them giving a guy a crack on potential, but you need an experienced footy related guy above him to guide him. Fagan isn't that guy. This isn't a middle management role, this is head of footy ops and we've seen what sort of a cluster**** has ensued.
I couldn't agree more, but I think we're all in agreement now that the guy is fecking hopeless and in way over his head. How he (Burton) got the job in the first place is a whole other story.

But in the context of the here and now, knowing what they know about how he has managed things to this point, the last thing they should be doing is getting him to front the media.

He is not smart. That much has been made very clear.
He speaks with speed and intensity and uses cliche words that make it seem like he is smart, but his decision making has proven his lack of intellect. Only a fool gets conned by this type of person.
Hey he’s from Whyalla, say no more and yes I’m qualified

I was of the understanding CM had zero to do with all this McGovern talk, Purple is the one mainly running with the McGovern story and the reason he keeps giving is it's down to Mitch feeling he was dudded money wise.....noting it was a contract his manager agreed to which McGovern duly signed??

Peter J maybe you can correct me, but IIRC that part of the Gov story in the media was wrong. There is reportedly some truth that Gov wants out of the club, but it is related to CM and not money. I find it very hard to believe that he would be unhappy with his contract after only just signing it. A contract which would have taken months to come to an agreement on. And a contract which is reportedly very big according to Roo and his big mouth. Its also only 3 years, which is as short as you can realistically get.

There was a fair bit of tongue in cheek in my comment.
HaHa! We think alike, GC. CEO's in clubs are now nothing but corporate climbers. I think that's where we go wrong. They don't have any real passion for the organisation they work for. That's why I like footy at the next level so much. You'll see (for the most part) CEO's rolling their sleeves up and getting dirty with the rest of us. I think the AFL clubs attract people who are career focussed with an 'all about me' attitude, not 'club first' focussed.

Exactly. When will the AFC learn to front up with a human, happy to communicate face that gives considered but direct information that most people can understand and accept, as distinct from the entrenched secretive, spin modified, half baked compromised way it has grown to presents itself. Some straightforward honesty and reasonable openness would raise the credibility of our current management and the club generally. I struggle with trying to understand what the AFC has become
Very well said.

They’re adopting a siege mentality against their own fans.
