Wow, Kelly really is up with it, we didn’t know Ruck rule changes were coming? It was only talked about prior to us signing him.
****wits.

That’s the thing and why I don’t buy it we got him on a cheap deal. The only reason you give 3 when you don’t want to is you have to. You have to because you think you’ll lose him otherwise, so that means you also need to pay him.I'm not sure why we felt he was a chance to go somewhere else

Wouldn’t have thought so, the club must have otherwise why give 3? ROB wasn’t going to retireDo you think he had other offers?

West AdelaideAgree .....doesn't it also depend on the $size of the Contract ?I'm guessing there was a real risk we could have been looking at going into the post season with no ROB, no S Draper and no prospects of luring anyone else.
Yep, because we’ve neglected our ruck stocks, apparently it was going to be easy to bring in ruck, instead we’ve got a 2 gamer leading it and 3 year newly signed ROB in SANFL.I'm guessing there was a real risk we could have been looking at going into the post season with no ROB, no S Draper and no prospects of luring anyone else.
No, it also comes down to lists spots, of which we’ve been very tight on. Second it’s the role. When you have 2 rucks, one has to be very good, we’ve got neither and after signing him ROB for 3 years, we are preferring a 2 gamer.Agree .....doesn't it also depend on the $size of the Contract ?
Days of media training and weeks to prepare a response and the best he can up with is "The most publicised rule change last year caught us completely off guard?"View attachment 2538190

He was just ok.I didnt get to watch the game, how did McAndrew go?
Does he have the tank?

We have the oldest, most expensive and on the longest contract, wouldn’t say the strongest. With Rob as back up do we suddenly have the strongest ruck depth cover in the comp?

We couldn’t call ROBs bluff because we were desperate due to our own stupidity.
And yet the club has come out and whinged that they weren’t aware of the ruck rules when they re-signed him to 3.There is a fair bit of mayo on that, which is not like you to be dramatic preseason about our Ruck stocks (remember last years storm in a tea cup and how that turned out?).
You act like the club didn't want ROB at all. He was playing well last year - finished top 10 in our B&F (and this wasn't a middling side - it was a team that won 18 bloody games). We wanted ROB. We also wanted that 2 gamer. We brought him in a year ago - and liked him so much that we gave him a 2 year extension. This isn't some green 20 year old prospect either - he has been in the 'system' for 7 years - including on an AFL list for 5 years.
And whats this bluff? I could understand that argument if he signed in September after the trade period and we had no options. But if he is on as much as you suggest - you don't think we could force the hand of another ruckman to pay em that much to demand out?
You keep bleating on about ROB's age. There are 7 ruckman older than him starting than him this year. 95% of his contract finishes before he turns 33. Thats not a negative factor.
Once again it's a massive over-reaction. I would have preferred to give ROB 2 years which takes him to the end of 2027 (when him and McAndrew are both out of contract), but that third year isnt the end of the world.
And yet the club has come out and whinged that they weren’t aware of the ruck rules when they re-signed him to 3.
If you’re not concerned about our ruck position that’s your choice. Me, I’m concerned that a ruck that was destined for Norwood with 2 games experience is leading our ruck and the bloke we’ve just signed on for 3 years, has spent the preseason struggling under the new ruck rules and is now playing SANFL.
Know of another back up ruck on a 3 year deal paid decent money?
If McAndrew doesn’t come on, what’s our options, play the bloke we re-signed and then dropped?
But it’s hard to take your position on this seriously when you consider using 2 rookie picks 10 years ago as a waste, too much to spend on a ruck. We will never agree.
And you bring up my view of ROB leading into 2025 as being wrong, well considering he sucked for 23/24 I had a fair bit of reason to be concerned. He did have a good season, right until the latter stages of the season when he reverted to sucking again.
