My point is - everyone bitches and moans about our ruck stocks. We are no different to clubs like Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Bulldogs, Collingwood.
And you forgot the most successful Club, without a decent RUCK for nearly a decade ..... GEEL

West Coast's Flynn, is the biggest Ruck Bunny in the AFL .....so there's a lot of Clubs without great Rucks

I'm with you, if we want an elite career ruckman unless we are prepared to go via the draft a top end proven ruckman especially with the new rules will cost a motza. It all gets down to how valuable people think an elite ruck is to premiership success with the new rules moving the goalposts markedly IMO.

In about 6 weeks those rule changes will be nullified, like most other changes. We're just in the adjustment period.
And none of those will ever be an elite player. Hell Murray won’t even be a lead full time ruck and we all know what you think about playing 1.5 rucks.

Eh, Murray could in two-three years. Raw but rucks do have a habit of getting to 24-25 and things just clicking into place.

Geelong have won one flag in 10 years, would they have won more? They tried for Marshall, so they clearly identified it as an issue.

You’re talking about West Coast, the bottom team to help you make a point????…….

They've also got/had the most flexible player in the game who has rucked a decent amount over time in Blicavs.

Surely the issue with the ruck list management is that if Strachan hadn't gotten injured and been forced to retire, McAndrew wouldn't be on the list at all.

That was pure luck, not any sort of proactive list management to save money and get a first choice ruck for cheap

You can thank Norwood.

What is the story there?

Was it Thilthorpe on Saturday night after the game who said McAndrew moved in with him when he came to Adelaide?

Why did McAndrew move in with an Adelaide player when he moved to Adelaide?

Norwood arranged accommodation, but had to find somewhere else when he signed with Adelaide? Or he moved in with Thilthorpe as soon as he got to Adelaide?

Poaching ruckmen from other clubs is by far the way to recruit ruckmen IMO, every now and then you'll be able to stumble onto a ruck in the draft but you waste 4 years developing them to get an AFL body.

Looked into it. Sounds like there was an agreement but possibly nothing official that he would go to Norwood.

Adelaide offered him a train on spot early Dec '24 and he moves over to Adelaide, lives with Thilthorpe.

Did he ever even do a training session with Norwood? I don't think so, has this Norwood link been overplayed?

I don't think he had moved to SA by December '24, when he agreed to come as a train on player. He was still in Sydney.

I think when he moved to SA it was to be a train on player here and move directly in with Thilthorpe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't follow it closely.

He may not have been in SA yet but he was definitely coming to join Norwood until he got the Crows offer when Strachan went down and he did train with Norwood once

One training session, so yep this Norwood link is overplayed.

Not that it's really that important. Just weird how it's presented sometimes.

What are you talking about? He committed to Norwood, was moving to play for them, Strachan went down and the Crows approached him. How is that overplayed or weird?

It's not like he played for them for half a year, dominated and was stolen in the mid season rookie draft.

He agreed to go to Norwood, did a singular training session (I trust you that he actually did this), then preferred to try his luck as a train on at an AFL club in early Dec '24.

My god you post some rubbish. No one, I repeat no one, has stated what you’re suggesting.

What happened has been stated numerous times, it’s not been overplayed or embellished.

The only thing weird is your posting.

Relax bud, it's not a big deal.

I just didn't realise he did just a singular training session with Norwood. Maybe I'm the only one who is surprised by this 🤷‍♂️

Only reason McAndrew landed at the Crows was Strachan had gone down with a LTI, McAndrew was an afterthought and given he was already in SA and 210cm it was an easy option and as it looks to have turned out to be a very lucky "äfterthought" with the change in the ruck rules.
Strachan doesn't go down McAndrew suits up for the Redlegs...it's that simple.

He came over in December '24, not in the draft or trade period. This was after Strachan had surgery in Dec '24, due to a navicular injury.

Of course it was after Strachan went down and after the trade/draft period, that's exactly the point people are making, Strachan doesn't go down no McAndrew at the Crows. Pretty obvious what our plans were for McAndrew during the SSP unless he stunk it up big time against ROB in that period,

I don't get what you're on about.

McAndrew was planning on playing for Norwood, attends a training session with Norwood, Strachan has navicular surgery in Dec '24, McAndrew then joins Adelaide as a train on, McAndrew then secures a SSP spot with Adelaide and the rest is history.
