yes saw the port game on fox, and can say that while VB didnt do much, neither did a lot of others.

Just cause you've been to one training session, and i'd assume you wouldnt have seen any other practice matches, doesnt make you an expert.

Nothing can really hide the fact that we are getting the same faces as last yr, so NC is obviously wanting to have a good start. Hope it changes as the yr goes on, and we see more youth as that is the future.

Don't get too stressed about it, jack. WCE have one new face and he's not quite a 1st year draftee either - Stenglein.

Most clubs name their most experienced side in the early rounds and feed the young lads in as injuries come along.

Van Berlo will play AFL games this year - I've bet Stiffy's left testicle AND his donger on that!! ;) :D

It looks like Van Berlo is playing deep in defence standing Scott Stevens. At quarer time, Stevens has a goal, and Van Berlo some good touches and tackles.

Thompson doing very well for Port.

THompson. Class above SANFL level. Pity cos he looks good in a Magpies jumper. Gun and a half.

Van Berlo...average game imo so far. Done some nice things, done some poor things.

S Stevens, another who has been average. Both good and bad things.

Thompson was outstanding. As you say, an absolute gun plus and much more than a replacement for Stinger. Far too good for SANFL. He must have ended up with about 35 touches.

Van Berlo was pretty good IMO. He was standing Scott Stevens, who is an experienced AFL player, and giving away several inches in reach. VB had by far the better of that duel, a point made by the commentators on 2 at three quarter time. He definitely got better as the game went on. I'm sure Robbie Pyman would have been more than happy with his game.

Saw the game today as well. Very, very good signs from Thompson.

But what do you think regarding his match fitness? Do you reckon he should play against Collingwood next week? Or is it still too early/risky?

He's a must pick for next week - a must.

While he's down on match fitness, he'll easily handle 10 to 15 minutes per quarter.

He's that tough rough and tumble mid-fielder we've been crying out for. Reads the ball beautifully as well.

He must play next week.

I would have played him this week Macca.... :(

He would do more in 10 to 15 mins a qtr than Skipworth would do in a whole game. The reality is that Skipworth will only play the last 10 mins of each qtr - so why not let Thommo play that role...

After today's performance he would be one fo the first picked IMHO. He was sensational. Just what we need and having Thommo in the midfield would give us a bit more flexibility and might allow us to play McLeod as a crumber a bit more than we can now.

Even for half a game, Thommo would do more than enough for the side :)

I would have both Thommo and Goody straight back into the side for the Collingwood game.

I bet you Skippy play most of the game and rotates through the midfield and forward line. He gives us a bit more crumbing ability than we would have had otherwise.

I hope you're right......nothing I've seen at training or in the PS games would indicate this.....

bottom line - I still think Thommo should have played this week instead of
Skippy.

Can we please go after Matthew Pavlich at 100 mph when his contract expires??????

He is giving Chad a bath and is playing excellent footy at CHF.

C'mon Pav come home and play for the Crows :)

Seconded!!

not sure if you watched the whole game, but he absolutely destroyed chad, says alot about chad's AA CHB status. Shame we didnt get him, but with riewoldt out and having an injury thats not great for key forwards, brown out too, pav could be the next AA CHF.
