Crows squad V Essendon

FWIW, and that's not a lot, I reckon Porps will miss out, and I know this is a bit different, but Shirly also. We don't have a Judd etc. to close mark against Essendon. That allows us to run Knights and Dougie.
Bode deserves his spot on his efforts last year ( as does Shirly ) but horses for courses.

Shirley will play..

One of Bode or Douglas will miss out along with Porp.

Everyone (including myself) puts VB in their starting 22, but I reckon we forget how old he is a lot of the time....Douglas and Knights have shown a fair bit in the PS....anyone think that maybe, just maybe, VB might miss? Highly unlikely but gee whiz you want to see blokes like Douglas get games.
Van Berlo will NOT miss out. He is one youngster that has MOST DEFINETLY cemented his spot in the Crows side. I think thats was evident last year when he came straight back into the side after recovering from a broken collarbone. For a club to bring a youngster straight back into the sid after a long absence through a serious inury just speaks volumes of how highly the club rates the kid.

Van Berlo has as much chance of getting dropped as Ben Rutten, ie NONE ;)

Dead right, if the AFC is serious about securing Van Berlo for the long term he will play every game in 2007 bar injury.

He is a captain in the making.

I think you're right Noddy. Shirley earns his spot. I just thought that with no real dangerman to tag, it might be an opportunity to run all the youngsters in attacking roles.

I also reckon that the forward line as named looked bloody good. If Perrie can present, maybe as a decoy then birdman and Welshy might have a day out.

You go with your best available 22. Taking Essendon lightly and approcahing it as a training run is a sure fire way to lose

I have this feeling Welsh will have a day out... a day out on the boundary line

I think he is a week away

Bode has been named in the Glenelg squad and Vince for the Eagles. Douglas, Knights and Props have not been named for their respective sanfl teams.

That settles it then. We are going in VERY young which has its positives. Knights will probably start on the wing and spend a lot of time there. Douglas is likely to start on the bench and rotate though the wings and onball while Porps will play as a small forward.

B: Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Nathan Bassett

HB: Jason Torney, Scott Stevens, Michael Doughty

C: Martin Mattner, Simon Goodwin, Scott Thompson

HF: Andrew McLeod, Nathan Bock, Brent Reilly

F: Scott Welsh, Ian Perrie, Brett Burton

R: Ben Hudson, Tyson Edwards, Nathan van Berlo

Int (from): Jonathon Griffin, , Robert Shirley, Chris Knights, Richard Douglas, Jason Porplyzia

Is that 1 still to drop out?

But there is still one to come out Stiffy - either douglas or knights if porps is the Bode replacement and we know that Griffin and Shirley are definites on the bench.

Not a bad line-up but is there a doubt about playing the sarge ?

In the past he has needed plenty of game time to reach fitness & form so maybe swap him for Porplyzia & have Perrie find form with NA.

So does that mean Bode is a certainty not to line up for the Crows? If so, I have to say it's fantastic news that Craigy is keeping to his word and giving games to the youngsters when they show the form, and not just sticking with the old heads. This is the way to manage a list, no limitations on any of your players.

No surprise there IMHO. As I said in another post he has just about cemented his spot in the 22. Well ahead of Knights and Douglas in the pecking order. A ready made player.

I have been hearing some unconfirmed news that Welshy will pull out with an injury.

No Gets - Porps would be the other player for that forward line, which means that our forward line is a little shorter with Burton and Perrie the main talls - makes me think that we are going to exploit Essendon defenders - they have 3 talls in Michael, Fletcher and Bradley so which of those three would they match against Burton?

To me it seems that the selection committee is making Sheeds change his regular set up.

Shirls will play! It's his 100th game! He'll be in the centre for the opening bounce I'd say, won't be on the bench until its time for a rest at the 15 minute mark of the first term.
