Crows - The Rebuild

I believe this year is our last chance for a premiership with this group. I don’t believe we will get there.
I’m not a pessimist and saying this due to our round one loss. I think that this group, mentally, does not have what it takes. It means that a proper clean out is actually needed. Sloane and Talia from the old brigade have the right mindset, but I think the other elders are mentally floored.

If I had it my way I would move on Tex, Lynch, Douglas, McKay, Betts, Gibbs and Jacobs. From the younger lot I would trade on Atkins, Hartigan and Kelly. Yes I know this won’t happen etc etc, but I think these players are a problem for our team.
Anyone who thinks our current team can win the flag is delusional and almost certifiable. We had our chance in 2017 and have lost 3 gun players since plus half our aging team is now completely cooked from being played when injured as our mastermind match committee believed it was better to play injured players than youth. No wonder young players left. Surprised more didn't leave. At the same time we bring in a cooked Gibbs for 2 first rounders. Lol. Sign up Walker to a long term multi million dollar contract. Sign up Lynch to a long term multi million dollar contract. Sign up a cooked Betts to a long term multi million dollar contract. We then proceed to squander 4 first round picks last year then hand 2 first round picks likely to be around pick 6 to 8 and 16 for pick 4 ish to Carlton. We have not brought in a trade of substance for some time and wheel out a ruckman that is embarrassing week in week out. Add in the fact that we can't move any players out we shouldn't want and the ones we move shouldn't have been moved. We also hire Brett ****ing Burton who was shown the door from Brisbane and Ben Hart who was shown the door from Collingwood. Only Adelaide Football club could get it all wrong this badly. But on the bright side people are lining up to see us finish 12th to 8th.

Add in Otten. Take out Jenkins, he can ruck part time. Trade out Kelly, Atkins, Poholke, ROB, Cey, Lynch. Use the 3 to 4 million salary cap relief to go after Himmelberg from Gws and the best Ruck. Grundy would be ideal. Offer him a million a year if we have to. Use pick 4 or 5 from Carlton to get best gun mid with speed. Move Don Pyke, Campo and Ben Hart out. Don is no coach. Rebuild complete. AFC be honest and pull the ******* bandaid off.

In summary:
Out
Walker, Jacobs, Douglas, Mackay, Otten, Betts, Kelly, Atkins, Cey, Poholke, Lynch, ROB, Campo, Don Pyke, Hart.

Sidenote:
Gibbs. I would trade him as well but there would be no takers. We are stuck with him. Retire him end of 2020 and payout contract. Last point is about Talia. I feel he is done but may have another year. I would trade in a free agent full back asap.

Team next year:
Brown Talia Doedee
Laird Keath Milera
Seedsman Sloane Smith
Davis Himmelberg(GWS) Knight
Mchenry Fogarty Gallucci

Grundy MCrouch BCrouch

Greenwood, (Pick 4 Carlton), Rankine(Trade from GC), Jones.

****This team would smash our current team by 6 goals plus.****

Depth:
Jenkins, Gibbs, Himmelberg(adelaide one), Butts, Hamill, Hartigan, Mcadam, Hunter, McPherson, Murphy, Scholl, Stengle, Strachan.
Pity the Adelaide Football play in a "real" competition called the AFL not the "fantasy football" league.

Are we actually in year 2 of a 7 year rebuild? If thats the case, in a perfect world should the following be retired at the end of the year?

Mackay
Douglas
Tex
Eddie
Jenkins
Sauce
Yes
Yes
Is contracted but the end appears near
Possibly, he had good energy on the weekend but was not particularly effective
No, contracted anyway
Yes but we may need to recruit a replacement because I'm not sure we have one ATM

I love how Crows fans and Port fans are pretty much exactly the same (as much as everyone pretends that this isn’t the case).

You can find almost an identical thread on the port board!

Throw in a Gibbs and to a lesser extent Jenkins. We need to blood more of the younger guys.
Given the new runner rules, I actually think keeping the players out of the AFL team may help their development.

A junior player will struggle in the AFL when they can’t get regular feedback on what they are doing wrong during the game.

None of which we know yet if they are capable of taking over from Betts, Talia, Tex, Sauce, Sloane, but lets hope they can, because if not the cupboard will be bare
A couple of Kids in place to cover, yes they are not proven, but every player named started at the bottom.
My views
Sloane covered with Chayne Jones, Sloane still has 3-4 years
Gibbs will be 2019 1st rd, ( Anderson, Bianco, Rowell, Serong just too name a few) But Gibb still has 2-3 years
Betts covered with Stengle, McAdam, Still has 2-3 years.
By the time these guys retire, we may also have Borlase, Edwards (both NGA/Father-son and this Edwards is the better one)
Talia, Watch Butts play this year, Plus there are few 2nd rounders in the 2019 draft. that area is one we are short on youth.
Tex covered by Fog, with a Possiblity Sladojevic (NGA) in a couple of years
Sauce, Still believe that ROB will surpass him and will watch the SANFL to see how much Hunter and Strachan improve this year

Most of these players still have a few years left,
But don't underestimate the Depth.

Watch the SANFL this year pay close attention to these players
Talls = Butts, Stracham, Himmileberg, Hunter,
Midsize runners Scholl, Hamil, McPherson (if he gets his body rite)
X factor Davis, Stengle, McAdam
Jones, ROB, McHenry there will be enough people watching them all year. and they will play AFL
Add Sladojevic for Souths, good up and coming KPP, maybe needing our 2nd round. if he maintains his current level of improvement.

A bit harsh to want to move on half the team that helped us reach to the GF 2 years ago.
If we don’t make the GF this year do you think, with the players we have, can make it next year. I also believe that they are the players that let us down very often in big moments or when we are under high pressure

We need to stop spending cents on our assistants and start spending dollars
Break the cap on footy department spend? Well I never...

1.Those players weren’t willingly traded out.
2. There are draft picks were gained from the departures.

Ahhh but we are in a premiership window NOW (or were) so we really needed to turn those draft picks into players who could come in and have an impact NOW not in 2-3 years time when our premiership window has closed. To be honest I was one of those that said trade them out as they are assholes but you know what, football clubs and premiership teams are full of assholes.

We should have gone on a massive trading IN spree the last two trade years but as always we lost much, much more than we gained.

If we are in a rebuild, does that mean we f**ked up big time by getting Gibbs for 2 first rounders and then to using all our 4 first and early second rounders in a super draft? The powers that be will never admit it even if it’s true

The Gibbs trade wasn't for 2 1st rounder if you look at the trade more closely, and it has actually allow us to trade for Carlton's 1st rounder for our 1st rounder and also got Carton's 2nd rounder "free" this year. And no we are not rebuilding.......close thread.

More like

OUT: McGovern, Lever, Cameron
IN: Gibbs, McAdam, Fogarty and McHenry + added in to getting Carlton's first two picks this year.

Fogarty - wont help us win a premiership this year or in 2018. Do you honestly think Pyke has the balls to drop one of jenkins, walker or lynch to give this kid a genuine crack.

Mchenry - wont help us win a premiership this year or in 2018

Carlton's first two picks this year - wont help us win a premiership this year or in 2018

McAdam - LOL.

Depends on the player development in the next 2-3 years, I trust our development that we will still contend in the next 2-3 years.

If Fog won't help us win a premiership then why would Pyke play him ahead of guys that can?

I'm sure if Richmond took your advise on a first year player like they wouldn't have played Jack Graham. He certainly didn't help them win a premiership or anything.

Yeah paying Lever, Gov and Cameron an extra 200k each May have been smarter than getting Gibbs.
So instead of being on $600-700K which are fair pay for them as they are emerging players with potential and not established star players, they will be on star players salary of $800-900K each......this would have divided the playing group. As reported, Gibbs took a pay cut to play at the Crows and was actually on less than McGovern's $550-600K.

By the same token, the same players essentially helped us reach the Grand Final 18 months ago, winning big moment games to get there. And what's to say we can't make top 4 again this year, or even the GF? Are we just going to bank on 1 game and make an assumption the players are not capable anymore?

AFLW Crows lost their first round this year, after winning the GF in 2017. Luckily they didn't panic and wanting a rebuild, because...they stuck to their guns and now are in another GF!

And some of those player were absolutely woeful in what could be their one and only grand final appearance for their career. What happens in the unlikely event we make it again would you be willing to risk another failed GF performance from senior players like Douglas, Mackay, Jenkins..

Anyhow, I digress. My point was that when we were in our premiership window we failed to trade IN aggressively as a great club would do.
