Autopsy Crows thrash swan (don’t worry tho, this game won’t define us)

Our reserves had 11 goals (to nil) kicked on them in the 4th quarter today. It was pathetic. Lost by 94 points to the team coming 10th in the VFL.

Anyone thinking the answer lies there is kidding themselves.

Mills will come back. Cunningham is sorely needed & might be rushed back too.

But that’s about it.

There’s no youngsters even looking likely. The cupboard is bare.

It was clearly a flop. But you give them the opportunity. The umpires are brainless but seriously just don’t shove a guy fifteen metres out from goal.
When presented with a chirpy Rachele, who supposedly had been working on humility after being criticised for squibbing contests and sulking a bit, I just don't have it in me to blame Rampe tbh.

I don't think I've ever been less engaged and invested than this season.
We weren't a good team in 2009 and 2019
But those years had an exciting young crop like Kieren Jack, Dan Hannebery, Craig Bird, Jesse White / Blakey, Florent, Hayward, Rowbottom coming through the ranks. As well as being one last hurrah for some club legends - Leo Barry, MOL / McVeigh and Jack

Was still enjoyable to watch because those outfits still seemed to have an appetite for the contest despite not being good enough. Can't say the same for this Swans side.

We're going to need to make some ruthless list decisions to avoid a long while in the wilderness because the same core of players that's producing these results are signed up on long term deals.

No to Cunners. Will we never learn? Rushing players back is usually bad for the team and often bad for the player.

I think Buller, Hanily, Leidler improve us over some that played tonight, or at least are on par.

I think part of the issue is the youngsters are basically all KPFs so they barely do the noticeable stuff at VFL level or the guys are injured/playing in the wrong position, e.g. Dattoli and Cleary

Recruitment has to be massively under the microscope.
I had a bunch of posters get so upset with me at the start of the year when I suggested this was the case.
Well, if I’m wrong, who’s coming through? Where’s the quality? 4-5 years of poor drafting and development baring its fruit right now.

Well when you run a day, week or whatever for every stupid social cause like we do I think it’s fair to say they swim identify politics.
I’m not saying any of these causes are wrong, but I’m sorry we are are football team that needs to focus on football and make everything we do about football because right now it’s clearly not a priority and the results show. We are an embarrassment.
Well yes true.

Bank corporate culture and fake "causes" are now synonymous.

That's what I mean by corporate culture.

"Diversity seminar" from NAB!

We now live in this bizarre world where corporate interests align themselves with social causes for marketing purposes and people lap it up.

It's ****ing bizarre

And Swans have gone full bore into this culture under Harley .

I don't think Harley is intelligent enough to understand the inherent contradiction here.

He really smells to me like Ben Roberts Smith. Good physique. Nice suits. Handsome . Aligned with corporate interests. Parrots corporate language. But dumb as a suitcase of hammers.

I'll bet Tom has expensive Tumi luggage.

He's that kind of dickhead.

It’s nothing to with identity politics. Maybe it’s woke but it’s not saying vote for your identity ffs

I know it’s one of your bugbears but I don’t think it matters at all whether they wear a pride jersey or a sir Doug Nicholls jersey. I don’t think it matters whether they play in white shorts or red shorts or even blackshorts.

I know you do so I’m just expressing my opinion on that.

But I agree with you on the embarrassment but I’ve had this view since the post match last year that this team has a weakness at it’s core and if you want to put it down to a woke culture go for it.

I just think we are playing a lot of incredibly average footballers and calling them afl players when a large number - Corey w Cleary Roberts are midfielders that we are playing as forwards or defenders and we are slow across the board and we are short across the board and we are small across the board.

I think if we got rid of all the woke stuff it wouldn’t make difference whatsoever in the field because when McLean is your number 1 tall forward and melican is your number 1 tall defender and then you compare these two to Jess hogan and Taylor or king and Collins or mihocek and Moore or wittering and chrnow we have the worst pair by the length of the Flemington straight

That’s our problem not the wokeness unless they made a whole lot of affirmative action unmeritorious choices

It's drafting AND development as you say. It's hard to know exactly how bad our drafting has been (and I have some gripes), when we've been largely outclassed in the VFL for the last 3 seasons.

I don't think we can suddenly improve the quality of top ups, so it's probably worth drafting a few more mature bodied 18 year olds even if they aren't the most talented / highest potential option at the pick. Ceiling might be lower, but they might actually hit it.
