Autopsy Crows thrash swan (don’t worry tho, this game won’t define us)

I think we all obviously see the season as over. So they need to transition into getting minutes into the young guys, but they also need to rest some of the younger ones that have had a decent workload so far.

Ins:
Buller, Snell, Dattoli, Hanily, Mills, Leidler

Out:
Bice, Co.Warner, Hayward, Lloyd, Campbell, Hamling

I was nearly going to add in Grundy. He was decent last night, but he looks sore as hell. He needs rest and either this week or the week after the bye would be good as it gives longer recovery.

After the bye that is where you can start funnelling players back and forth due to form etc.
Start organising the Round 23, Sunday, August 17 fixture as farewell games to Rampe and Lloyd.
Can't rush Dattoli in if he can't run out a reserves game yet. Not good for anyone.

Felt sorry for Hayward last night and I've been critical, he battled hard with shocking bombs to the advantage of KPDs.

Campbell's lucky he kicked a goal (one of 4 to do so). His tackling was down. I'd have him as sub if there weren't more pressing changes.

Hamling worst game in defence , but I think Cox has ducked him a bit moving him around so much. He is limited just keep it simple, defender or out.
Yep. If he's ever going to do defensive forward again, it needs to be when we've got actual targets around him.

Still, I'd bring Mills and Leidler in, so one of Hamling/Rampe make way (along with Bice).

I think Ladhams is quicker than mclean and works harder ,
sometimes think if he is in he should ruck more , seems under-utilised .
Ladhams is overrated as heck

Is barely any better than McLean in the ruck and is much worse up forward, can't kick a goal to save himself

Normally I would agree. But Dattoli is ready for a small forward role. He actually looks good leading up. I think the not running out a VFL game is harsh considering what Casey did to the Swans in the 2nd half.

Hayward has been given what seems to be a lifetime spot in the AFL team. He knows it, we all should know it and he simply doesn't produce often enough. Stick him in the VFL for a couple of weeks. What's the worst thing that can happen?
Campbell I feel for a little bit because he has never had a similar position to get comfortable in a role etc, but at the same time, they can't accept this type of play.

I don't agree with that. Tackling requires talent. It's a genuine skill, just like kicking, marking etc. As evidenced by the fact the overwhelming majority of our list were not born with that ability and seemingly cannot be taught it.

I said it last year, once the tackling & pressure side of the game became selective things carried by the few, rather than non-negotiables expected of the many, the club was doomed.
I didn’t mean no talent is involved, but I believe it is something if practiced enough, anyone can get proficient at it (maybe not great, but at least to standard, and we are well below standard at the moment).

If you still are if a different view, then happy to agree to disagree.

I've been critical of Hayward, but you can't drop a guy who was probably in our bests.

If Dattoli had been fronting up to midfield or seen around the ground late, sure, but he was stuck forward presumably being managed. It's his first year, with 1.5 games after no pre-season and months out with a back stress injury. I'm just not sure why we'd rush him into seniors, where everyone needs to be able to play a full game, unless we don't care about the risk to him, his development and the result.

100% agree . I wish the club would grows some and come out and say horses wage is in this yrs soft cap and that hindered doing anything this yr .
But the Harley would have to admit he sacked horse.

In hindsight (always 20-20) it would have been better to make horse coach on and announce the plan to pass over to Cox by year’s end. If Horse goes well, then no issues. If Horse struggles, then Cox get to step up with no pressure for 2025.

Instead, Cox is battling with a world of club-created unreasonable expectations.

To your point, I really think Harley needs to stand up now and protect his coach. I think it would also create a release for the club to focus on getting right for 2026.

Dattoli also plays a completely different role to Hayward. If you take Hayward out of the forward line then Sydney have no lead up targets in the forward line until Amartey is back from suspension

Is he rated at all? Hardly overrated, barely plays. He wouldn’t be in my best 22, but at least in a side lacking for effort, he gives chase and moves and if you are going to play him then he should ruck more imo.

Right now I am not sure he is much worse than McLean and McLean probably gave us his version of a good game last night, I agree he can’t kick for shit, nor can Brodie, hence the lack of rotation I guess

Just on Milera’s comments - it was very noticeable in TV after one of the goals, Rowbottom stopped on his way back to the middle to talk to the back 6, and as he ran off, Blakey looked as though he was mouthing off back at him (could only assume it was something along the lines of him focusing on his own job and not making them under so much pressure).

Anyway. Grundys game was great. Works so hard, and having to do too much.

Sheldrick, you’d just love it if he took a second to compose himself before disposing, think he rushes to dispose when he still has time. Can get the ball, and you probably can’t doubt his effort either.

Thought Hamling was decent on Walker, and Melican on Fogarty.

Rachele’s steps on Bice and then Co Warner in the first quarter that led to goals showed the difference between AFL standard players and VFL standard players.
Blakey has become a liability and if he’s talking back to one of our leaders like that and one that is trying his guts out, Blakey should be dropped. He had a putrid game last night and it’s not just a one-off. He pitimises (spelling?) the team right now

If we're not going to bring Buller in (unlikely), or play Heeney forward more, put Blakey forward. Try something different, try and unsettle the opposition. Doesn't mean he's there long term, but get some confidence back and help the team.

The Knicks losing makes me slightly happier this morning
My 76’s sucked this season. But I have Liverpool and Melbourne City winning titles to make up for the 76’s and Swans sucking this year

Hey I’ve thought of a good positive…

We keep sucking we will get a top 2-3 pick that we hopefully won’t blow on the next Dylan Stephens.

This is a year we needed to have for mine
