Darcy has actually played a game in defence far more recently than Naughton.

I think we need a "Darcy - forward/ruck or KPD" thread... or not. 😄

Disappointing to lose when our big three play well in Bont, Ed, Libba plus Astro and English. Just not a lot help from the others with a bit more contribution we could have won that one. Wonder if Kennedy was not right 8 possessions is just not him.

Darcy is better and younger. That’s the reality. Better mark, better kick, more skilled, still has plenty physical development left. There’s no shame in Thilthorpe being second best though.

Darcy is a year younger and better in almost every stat category. It’s not even a debate.

Based on yesterday afternoon, regardless of how you try to rank/split them, if we don't find a lockdown KPD soon, Thilthorpe will do a lot more damage to us in coming years than Darcy will do to them. As unicorn-ish as Darcy is, Crows have better KPDs and a better defence model than we currently do. ☹

Rank the worst you've felt this year:

1. Geelong loss
2. Adelaide loss
3. Darcy knee

The only way I partially recover is if we beat BL.

1. Darcy knee
2. Bevo getting a two year extension

The game plan and structure of the team sucks. Defend too high, can't defend the wings in transition and just bomb it inside 50 hoping to get a repeat stoppage or have Darcy pluck a miracle. Defence is even more exposed that we are no longer as dominant around the stoppage.

Good teams kill us on score from turnover, knowing that we can't stand up to pressure, while our tackling is inept (bar a few)

Adelaide's foot skills were as good as I've seen from anyone this year and the way they create angles and kick to their forwards advantage is part of the reason Thilthorpe and Fogarty killed us. If we kicked that way inside 50 Darcy would be even more unplayable.

Although Darcy was molested most of the day and got zero from the umpires, the Crows played him perfectly, body contact at all times and had O'Brien stand in the hole. Needed English to do that for us for a bit of protection.

Regardless of structure JOD's confidence is shot and has to go back for a while and regain it at VFL level. He is fine when the ball comes in long and high but his decision making and foot skills are atrocious. Coffield only marginally better. Such a shame we missed out on Barass.

Getting games into Dolan and Hynes is fine but horses for courses, can't carry both of them in big games like yesterday. Both were monstered and couldnt tackle the bigger Adeliade bodies, although a lot of more senior players were very poor in this aspect yesterday also.

A couple of positives I guess, I like Garcia in the middle, doesn't look out of place and is physical. Naughton is back and most importantly kicking accurately, likewise Bramble has found a bit of form. Also 41k is a fantastic turn out and shows we can draw a crowd maybe our biggest ever v an interstate side?

The definition of a flat track bully unfortunately and even more unfortunate is Bevo's reluctance to change anything.

Thilthorpe can have his one day out. I’ll take the bloke who’s better across 24 rounds, thanks.

Well, at the risk of sounding basic, I was at the game and saw on several occasions how Adelaide generated a shot at goal from a kick in. There were blatant issues with defending the ground long before the ball got to our last line. One that springs to mind was the last play of the 2nd qtr, where English ran under the high ball and JJ was typically awful 1v1 and just fell over, allowing Dawson and Curtain to do as they pleased from their back flank.

The last line was also regularly exposed. But there was more to it than that.
The commentators mentioned several times that our defence was setting up wrongly, or caught out of position. Hoping that's the focus of the post-match review.

Regardless, it was certainly more in our favour in Ballarat. That isn't really debatable.

It was a stupid move to move it and no amount of attendees is going to convince me otherwise.

4 points is more valuable.
You’re kidding yourself if a change of venues would’ve covered the systemic issues at the heart of why we are a mid tier team which gets beat up on any team with a decent tall forward . Let alone one with two very good ones and one aging but still street smart one.

To think that we gave up 4 point because of the change of venue is absurd.

It’s also disrespectful to a team that has sat above us all season and is comfortably in the top 4.

A position we find as unreachably unlikely as a date with Margot Robbie.

This. I like the kid but he's not ready. We can't afford to pay he and Hynes at the same time.

I'd rather we took a backwards step of putting games into raw talent like Dolan, Hynes the untried Sellwood, Jaques or Kennedy than the sideways step of playing the likes of Poulter, Baker, Scott or just about any of the likely seasoned players currently seeing out time at Footscray. These guys with their obvious flaws aren't going to do much to help us.

The reality is that if they were or are in the side every team section thread would be bemoaning their inclusion at the expense of the untried or inexperienced promise of the yoof. Be it using the transfer of the game as an excuse or team selection. Thats just how we roll.

Regardless, yesterday wasn't lost on account of the two lest experiences players on the list. It was lost because of the systemic issues in a team that just cannot cope with teams that get the game on their terms and deliver it to competent forwards.

The only way I partially recover is if we beat BL.

1. Being diagnosed with cancer for the 2nd time.
2. Attending my best mates 50th bd whilst he battles a degenerative brain condition.
Something that has rendered him unable to walk, talk and in need for somebody to wipe his arse after he shits himself.

Life.

Family.

Perspective.

Football.

I was a real fan of Pratt defensively last year but we’ve conceded 95+ pts 7 times this year. What’s happened to us?
We’re 8th or 9th for conceding that score.
Jones' injury and obvious decline.

Last year we had Lobb and JO'D playing their natural intercept game.

Since Jones' absence that has completely gone out of their and thus our game.

We need to bite the bullet and Hail Mary Jones back into the side or throw Buss into the deep end.

Oh, and the players in the forward half and midfield could learn to apply a a tackle that sticks. Instead of whatever it was that they were doing yesterday. Their inability to apply sustained pressure through the middle of the ground absolutely torches a defensive structure that has to constantly fight out of its weight division.

That'd be great.

Thats where yesterday's game was lost. It gave the likes of Dawson, who is probably the best kick in the game enough time to deliver the ball with all the precision of a JDAM through a Middle Eastern dictators bedroom window.

Thx. I feel better now.

Be interesting if they asked the other 16 other clubs who would they take between Darcy and Thilthorpe it would be an interesting discussion

They'd say "I hope the school holidays finish soon so we can stop answering these questions "

Hawks loss would be #4

Geelong was brutal cause we were robbed but even then we still should have won but hit the post six times. Homicide Detectives are still investigating the warm case because they got away with murder to somehow win that.
I wouldn't be surprised if the posts were moved remotely ;)

we coughed it up all over the ground, just more pressure on our defence...

Crows were able to cut through too easily from defence to forward, maybe simply because they're better....but I expected more from us, and not much of a surge at any stage...perhaps if was at Ballarat would've been a different style of game, trying to find excuses

Freijah, either running out of petrol after a very good year or played a different role, couldn't work that out

with no VFL game Bevo will need to make a hope and see change(s)

So your best idea then is take the guy who kicked a third of our goals down there?

Adelaide’s defence was shit yesterday yet they won maybe they should’ve put Thilthorpe down back on Naughton when Butts went off
But Thilthorpe isn’t a defender. Naughton is. We stop the ease of Crows goals and maybe a Darcy led forward line with support from smalls, Bont and running mids may have got job done.
It’s crazy that no move was attempted to change the defensive end.

Sure he does. And I guess your implication is that's more than Darcy? 🤪

CBAs
ROB 29
Thilthorpe 6
English 30
Darcy 5

Total ruck contests
ROB 84
Thilthorpe 11
English 76
Darcy 15

If you're going to come on here trying to make a point, but using BS, just kindly f*** off back to your one horse town.
Cheerio
😀
We got to see them go head to head yesterday. It is what it is.

Naughton played as a defender 7 years ago for 1 season when we were shit

Naughton is now a key Forward he even sees himself as one

Unfortunately, so far this year the gap between our #1 Offence and the Top 8 defences has been a little less than the gap between our mid-table defence and their offence. It's too late to fix now.

The answer is clearly more offence and Pagans Paddock  or our own version of it. The only maximum offence flag winning strategy in the last 45 years by the 96/99 Roos, time to unleash Darcy for maximum damage.
Spot on
