Naughton is ranked 59th for goal assists average this year. 34th last year. No idea where you're pulling your stats from.
Also assists alone do not measure a player's creativity. Lachlan Fogarty from Carlton finished 4th for average assists last year and he's not even a top 300 player in the competition.

Firstly, no, my numbers are right and you’re wrong. Secondly, how are you measuring Brody Mihocek’s allegedly superior creativity?

You need to watch him more closely. He works hard at ground level, and blocking for other forwards. Even when he was struggling for touch earlier in the year, he never dropped his head. Then there's the small issue of preseason glandular fever...
Has annoyed to no end how critical people have been of Naughton. Has tried all year and finally bounced back from illness and it’s showing. Works twice as hard as anyone else out there

Yes, I neglected to consider you were cherrypicking assists among "key-forwards".

Mihocek's creativity can be observed from watching him play and seeing him consistently make the correct decisions and hitting team mates running into dangerous areas. Any Collingwood person could tell you this. Naughton might have more direct goal-assists, but that means about as much as Lachlan Fogarty being 4th last year for goal-assists.

If you are getting completely shut down multiple times this year, why shouldn't that warrant criticism?
"Working hard" is something every AFL-listed player had to do. It is not a standout quality.

No, your numbers were wrong even for goal assists generally. And comparing a key forward to other key forwards isn’t cherry picking.

So Mihocek hits teammates running into dangerous areas and Naughton doesn’t but Naughton has the 52 goal assists and Mihocek the 18. That’s so weird. I guess Mihocek’s teammates keep running into those dangerous areas you can’t kick goals from.

Bye Antares

So you could understand where ppl were coming from last year when Beveridge was insistent on playing all of Darcy, Ugle-Hagan and Naughton in the same forward line? And they were always jumping for the same marks every week? Before Lobb was moved back he was also being crammed into the fwd line.

Like low information morons who support Donald Trump. I can understand it.

That doesn't mean that I have ever agreed with them.

Beveridges brain fart of playing 4 tall forwards going into last season was one of the worst innovations he has brought to the team. But it was the catalyst for solving our issues at CHB. When he sent Lobb, clearly the worst of the 4 forward talls back.

Once he put that behind him the forward line worked in a pretty dangerous and cohesive manner in the second half of the year. Which is why we saw the 3 talls kick 116 goals for the season.

Anyway. That was last year. We found a CHB.

Who cares?

If Naughton kicks goals consistently then not many will have problems with him playing forward. Problem is he's not consistent, and if he's not kicking goals he's useless; no creativity, no flair. He's not like a Tom Hawkins or even a Mihocek who can impact games without scoring.

It's interesting that you draw a negative inference when comparing him to Mihocek. Given Naughton at worst statistically breaks even with him.

Here's a fun fact from your friends at footywire. Brodie Mihocek has kicked 47 goals once in his career. Aaron Naughton has equalled or bettered that twice and is on track to do it again this year.

We need a Forward. He's a forward. He'll play forward.

Let. It. Go!

Seems like a strange thread to be potting Aaron Naughton.

Shut down? Have you ever done any physical activity after glandular fever?

Our delivery to him all year has been pathetic. He was getting better 1-2 months ago but his timing was still off, add in the fact that we kick it over his head in a constantly congested forward line doesn’t help either.

The game plan and structure of the team sucks. Defend too high, can't defend the wings in transition and just bomb it inside 50 hoping to get a repeat stoppage or have Darcy pluck a miracle. Defence is even more exposed that we are no longer as dominant around the stoppage.

Good teams kill us on score from turnover, knowing that we can't stand up to pressure, while our tackling is inept (bar a few)

Adelaide's foot skills were as good as I've seen from anyone this year and the way they create angles and kick to their forwards advantage is part of the reason Thilthorpe and Fogarty killed us. If we kicked that way inside 50 Darcy would be even more unplayable.

Although Darcy was molested most of the day and got zero from the umpires, the Crows played him perfectly, body contact at all times and had O'Brien stand in the hole. Needed English to do that for us for a bit of protection.

Regardless of structure JOD's confidence is shot and has to go back for a while and regain it at VFL level. He is fine when the ball comes in long and high but his decision making and foot skills are atrocious. Coffield only marginally better. Such a shame we missed out on Barass.

Getting games into Dolan and Hynes is fine but horses for courses, can't carry both of them in big games like yesterday. Both were monstered and couldnt tackle the bigger Adeliade bodies, although a lot of more senior players were very poor in this aspect yesterday also.

A couple of positives I guess, I like Garcia in the middle, doesn't look out of place and is physical. Naughton is back and most importantly kicking accurately, likewise Bramble has found a bit of form. Also 41k is a fantastic turn out and shows we can draw a crowd maybe our biggest ever v an interstate side?

The definition of a flat track bully unfortunately and even more unfortunate is Bevo's reluctance to change anything.
Very accurate comments.

I’ve been very complementary of JOD this season but he was absolutely deplorable yesterday.

Yes, kicking to advantage is easier when the midfield is applying little to no defensive pressure but the amount of times he was caught out by a very simple lead was shocking.

Equally when our talls are being dragged so far up the ground so easily, one kick over the top just completely exposes us.

We are kicking into a ridiculously congested F50, relying on a heavily contested mark or moment of magic. Conversely, when the opposition is going forward they’re kicking into an absolute paddock of space.

Partially system, partially personnel. The boys back there need to get a hell of a lot more physical and accountable. But Bevo needs to start adjusting too.
JOD has a good month but his last 3 weeks in particular have been quite awful.

It’s negligence to be continuing with the status quo. Either drop him or move him to the 3rd tall.

I understand investing games into him but the club seems to pick and choose which young players to develop through poor form compared to others (Busslinger).

I was a real fan of Pratt defensively last year but we’ve conceded 95+ pts 7 times this year. What’s happened to us?
We’re 8th or 9th for conceding that score.
We have effectively lost 2 key pillars of our defence. Jones and Duryea father time has caught them both. We are definitely one big KPD Short even Jones was suspectible 1v1 but was able to work around it with his athleticism.
Croft would have to be our most likely answer if he can make the grade

I think JJ as well, can't see him taking us any further. Looking at another mini-rebuild

Whilst yesterday's loss was really disappointing, another loss to another contender, I think the reaction of our supporters has been even more disappointing.

We lost a hard-fought game where we played below our best against a top side that I think played pretty close to their best, by just 11 points.

I think people need to forget the current bloody narratives! And remember that we have been doing it tough since before the season started. Some of our 2nd tier players who have been consistently exceeding expectations had down days. It's not ideal but nor is it catastrophic.

You always learn more from your losses than your wins. Let's learn, adjust and keep fighting the good fight.

I think we have more improvement in us than most of the other contenders, and if we lose by such a small margin against a team playing at the top of their game then it should inspire some optimism rather than the outpouring of pessimism that we have seen.

Bring on the next challenge, let's embrace it.

We’ve seen the same thing every season since 2016 with 2021 being the exception.

It’s hard to get excited or hopeful after losing the same games in the same way year after year.

Kane is a plodder, but hes bang on here.

Also that's an arrogant-esque banner the Cheer squad made. And I'm not throwing shots here, expecting us to be meek, buy it JuJusreclarifies how much more the supporter base expected.

That wasn't hard fought at all. We applied little pressure and tackled like kids. Lack of 2 way running and defending by our mids and fwds. The ned margin flattered us. It's losing the same way every time.

Sorry, there's very little to optimistic about.
