Be some sort of prize if they can. Local legend has it that anyone who can throw a rock from the viewing decks above into the lake wins a prize or something...me ... never came close :o

Yes I heard that too, not that I have ever given it a crack I havent been to Mt Gambier for a very longtime um 1983 in fact:eek: Geez Im old:(

Is that the first AFL match that South have hosted? I used to live not far from Blue Lake Sports Park.(played hockey and softball across the road from the footy ground) Why isn't Vansittart Park being used? Cricket finals??

Oh, and the Barn used to be our favourite hangout as underage drinkers on a Saturday night! Do they still have live music down there? Was a great venue, only drama was the one road there and back was usually manned by a breath-o. Reckon they did a roaring trade.

From what I hear AFL officials deemed Souths grounds the best surface for AFL. I think they could have used any of them probably in better nick than most other non AFL areas - minimal water restrictions here.

Portentous you are showing your age those Saturday nights were a long time ago. Still the best place for a steak though.

Unless it's changed, Mt Gambier airport is just a tin shed. Flew in and out of there more times than I can count. The only problem was working out which shed was the actual terminal building.

One big benefit of a tin shed - check in time virtually 5 minutes before take off. PS all day parking - free

I don't doubt the ground at South is in top condition, but Vansittart Park is such a fantastic location.

What DO they use the Barn for now, apart from steak? Heck, I still remember "Ripples" nightclub upstairs in Ripley Arcade. Fell down those stairs a few times after having about 10 too many to drink. :o

South hosted Melbourne Essendon back in 93? I think, as for Vansittart Park used for cricket, doesn't have a pitch.

The Little Blue Lake is THE spot. Used to go skinny dipping there in my younger days. :D

Um do I need that vision right now:eek: :p
I didnt macca, I vomited a little in my mouth

Especially as I used to venture out to Ripples occasionally

Nat? Nat? Doesnt ring a bell, but then again not many names did at that time

Ahhh Ripples. What about Javeds! And now, Shadows! Classy establishments! :D :D

We used to go to North Gambier FC, then Ripples then Javed's (jugheads) on Fridays (the Barn on Saturdays followed by Ric's Pizza Bar) . Always knew not to eat the food at Javed's tho! I always loved North's oval-Vansittart Park. Saw sooooooo many WBFL Grand Finals there when we lived down the Mount.

And I thought that the Little Blue Lake would be too cold to get algae. It was fffffffffreezing when I swam there-togs or not. :p I can understand Picanninnie (sic) Ponds and those places getting algae though. My border collie nearly drowned there one Xmas-tried to walk on top of the reeds. D'oh!

There was a suggestion on one of tonight news services that Tippet might get a run this weekend. I'm not sure how true that is, but good luck to him if it happens. I was impressed with what I saw from him on the track a few weeks ago.

I was planning on attending, I only live 2 hours away, but the Saturday afternoon scheduling means I have to miss it to play a very important cricket match. Would have been much better on a Sunday.
