We need to use this game to test our depth as we are likely to need it for round 1.

As inside midfielders I would be trying all of Dawson, Rachele, Taylor, Pedlar, Bond, Edwards, ANB & Keays.

Dowling I would be using as a wingman & forward.

Agree Laird can remain in defence.

I disagree, send Laird to inside midfield until Peatlings back. You don't have a lot of strong contested ball winners in that side, it does (hopefully) give a benefit of loosening the shackles on Michalanney who's in need of a role change and it gives Rachele some cover who is probably not going to be a strong contested ball winner as an inside midfielder (noting we have Dawson, who is statistically one of the worst clearance winners in 2025). ANB also does similar, though doesn't have the Max benefit.

So, it certainly achieves some short term goals in a pretty harmless way. Above all else, this is a team who needs a guy who can win 6-7 clearances a match, something Laird has historically been able to do (and noting what ended Laird's run was the return of a now-retired Crouch).

Have been saying the only way ROB plays round 1 is an injury to McAndrew.

Imo, McAndrew won't get through the full season so ROB likely to play some games... hopefully against smaller more mobile ruckmen or when the AFL change the rules back.

Nope, barring injury or playing with 2 genuine rucks, he’s no hope now. Very pleasantly surprised, it’s very much not like us. Looks like the Balme influence is starting to take effect. Selection integrity, we’ve said the words, we’ve rarely practised it when a decision was required.
